Yes, I'd categorize this as an unconfirmed report or just plain rumor. However, the part about asking people to leave and looking over people's shoulders is exactly what this report suggests. In addition, Apple is apparently going to inform everyone about this policy before they begin the keynote. The "rule" being that you can't transmit any information about the keynote until after the keynote is done. I suspect, however, that that would be hard for them to enforce.

If true, my only real question would be, "Is this a new policy?"

I love this. I haven't even read the rumor, but your first line assumes that it is true. Why would you think that?

Even if Apple, or IDG, or Macworld, or whoever doesn't provide 802.11x support during the keynote, there are still other wireless forms of connection, i.e. cellular modems. They might not be as fast, but you don't need much for text. American law prohibits active interference of those frequencies, so Apple cannot do anything other than ask people to leave. And do you really think they are going to be walking around the auditorium looking over people's shoulders?

I don't think so.

This is very, very odd. It's just weird...why is apple doing this?

I guess we'll find out on tuesday. It's either something MAJOR or the keynote is so pathetic that they dont want people to be live updating.

I think it's gonna be option one.. :D

Blocking all real time information just because nothing extraordinary is coming doesn't make sense. If they have nothing extraordinary, many people will be disappointed anyway. An embargo wouldn' t change anything. On the contrary, expectations would even be higher. The only explanation I have is that they don't want people who misunderstood or misinterpreted something spread false information.

True, I am assuming that Apple is not going to be allowing people to broadcast/publish live - because it's not a very interesting rumour, so i dont see why anybody would want to make it up..? At the end of the day, this whole site is a rumour site, and you just have to take everything as-is. My post is assuming this rumour is true.

Secondly, with regards to using other methods - if Apple don't want people broadcasting live, then it's not going to happen. It wouldnt surprise me one tiny bit if they had security guards there, ready to escort people out. Heck, it wouldnt surprise me if SJ went up to people and chucked them out himself..!

I think perhaps the reason for all of this security is that some people are planning to have a little 'outburst' during the keynote. Apple certainly wouldnt broadcast that live, and they probably dont want it reaching the internet so quickly either (before they have a chance to edit the keynote).

Well, we'll soon see - just over a day to go now/

but they have not included the powerbook g5 that IS being released
( according to one wannabe powerbook (mine ) purchacer that told me "i better sell to him really cheeply because it is comeing out )

How Ironical...!

How Ironical and hypocritical would that be! - Apple prevents people from using the very technology they are wanting to sell to them!

If they do censor technology we should just boycott their media events!

They can go and play with their own toys. Fine!

From What I gather ...

From What I gather some main people that were going the the SF MacWorld EXPO going on now did NOT go... Very odd.

9 hours!?!?!

Ah well, there's no way I'm staying up til 2am to watch the darn thing - nor am I getting up at 6am to watch it before I go to work. Looks like it's now Wednesday evening's entertainment for me - I guess at least I'll know which bits are worth watching by then!

So are you guys going to wait for the stream or are you going to sneak peak on Apple's site or rumor sites?

I'm not waiting until 3AM CET. I guess we'll hear the new shortly after the keynote at latest.

Nine hours after the Keynote would be about 11pm for me, would just wait until Wednesday.

This is becoming increasing frustrating. It was Steve's paranoia hat caused problems for Apple in the beginning. Seems that his paranoia has returned.

Well I'm certainly not waiting up until 2-3am to watch the keynote... It's starting to sound like Apple don't want anyone to know what is going to happen tomorrow - either very bad or a publicity stunt in the making

hmm..well i guess that it wont be choppy when im watching it at 2am then..if nobody else is watching :D

i have no obligations on wednesday morning, so I may as well watch it. It's gonna be hard resisting the temptation to go to Apple.com though :/

Don't forget it will be prime time on the other side of the Atlantic, waiting until Wednesday morning is probably a better idea.

Well, you know how we are. We all say we won't stay up until the wee hours of the morning to catch the Keynote, but a lot of us will end up doing precisely that. Too much suspense to be able sleep anyway.

As an aside, I've seen the 9 hour delay story on another site:
http://cbs.marketwatch.com/tools/qu...AAD449FCAEDC4CC6AE5D84AF&siteid=mktw&dist=nbk

Better break out some Red Bull!

If all goes according to plan with the delay till 6pm PST. Then we just have about 24 hours to wait till we can view the Keynote via QuickTime. But of course by then it will be anticlimactic.

Now that he has cancelled the NE MacWorld, just wonder if MWSF will be next. It would seem that WWDC would be safe, Apple has an obligation to appear before developers.

Apple just isn't present at macworld Boston. They are still at the other macworlds around the globe. I think they would pull out of the one closest to home last of all (or if it moves out of SF to say like Sacramento)

Ok
When will the updates on apple.com be around

I was surprised to find that apple.com was still up. Thought that they would be getting updates ready for after the Keynote.
