I wonder if particular colleges, which have their own on-campus stores and also specialized pages in the online Apple Store, might still have discounts.

So although the rebate offers end on 16th Sept and 6th Oct, the offer has effectively ended becuase it's impossible to get the old models online?

Just glad I get them at wholesale prices. Working at a big box does have it's benefits. ;) :D

Old iPods Free

Actually, I think we still get a pretty good deal here...

I bought a new computer yesterday (was hoping for new chips in the laptops, no such luck). Because of the new nanos, all old nanos prices dropped $50, and I got a 4GB free after rebate and educational discount instead of a 2GB. The girl helping me in the Apple store didn't know about the price drop until she rang it up, so it may be that yesterday the workers weren't entirely informed...

So ok, it's not a new nano, but it's the best old nano on the market :D

No EDU discount - but the Gov Empl discount is there!

While the educational discount may be gone, the US Government Employee discount is still there, even for the new iPods. PS: There is no requirement to prove that you are a Government Employee.

I contacted apple to ask them about this one the phone, (UK), the guy i spoke too took a few seconds then said 'Because its a new product, it will take a couple of weeks before the discount is applied, however if you want to order it now i can give you the discount'

So he did, and i got a white 80gb for £207 + VAT (£243.23)

Estimated Delivery is 28th September...

too dishonest for me...

Will be glad when this offer is complete.

My best guess is the MacBook Pro Core 2 Duos are being held untill after this offer. Probably to keep the margins up or at a proffit. The MacBook/iPod offer seems as an attempt to lower the invintory of their older systems. But the cost of the new processors it probably puts apple at a loss to offer MacBooks at edu discount and a free Ipod. being priced close to the origional MacBooks. If you noticed that Macs that were upgraded last week wern't part of the Deal. The only Modern System that was part of the iPod and Mac offer was the MacPro (which even with student discounts) only a small amount of students could afford and are probably higher margin.

Hope you're right. 'Us' poor students couldn't do without the edu discount. What on earth am I supposed to use to play music downstairs at my party while the fellas do kegstands? My notebook? Cos last time we tried that, someone spilled beer on it and we had to lie to get the warranty to cover it...

I spoke to the apple store in Bham (uk) today ,and they told me that there is no more NUS discount on ipod's or ipod accessories. This is due to apple reducing the prices.

Well, you can still buy iPod accessories (ie Universal Dock) on apple's website with NUS discount - So i'm guessing somethings not quiet right with the information going around, especially as apple let me order one with discount :p

before, a 30GB iPod with edu discount was $279; now, with no discount it's $249... thats $30 less than before for edu customers...

so whats the problem here?

I spent over 500 on my 3g 30GB iPod 3 and a half years ago (499-edu+engraving+tax). Today I could buy an iPod with the same capacity for half of what I paid, and as an added bonus, it has a bigger screen, way thinner, color display, plays videos, pictures, slideshows; has gapless playback, considerably longer battery life etc...

face it; iPods are an absolute steal these days.

When you stop to think about, is an ipod really educational anyway?

You don't use them in classes for school work. They are really only entertainment devices. I don't know of many entertainemnt devices that have student discounts (besides over-priced movies at thetres).

Could you imagine using a student discount for an X-Box or Playstation3?

i work in the digital studio at my college and i have been working on an extensive project incorporating prof's lectures/other materials and podcasting. what do most students always have on them? thier ipod...not their textbooks. educational podcasting is the way of the future.

I just picked up a Nano at my local Apple store. I inquired about the EDU discount--she said that Apple is no longer offering, but if on some off chance they reinstate it within the next 14 days, I can get reimbursed...

me thinks, fat chance, but here's to hoping.

back to school ipod discount???

I'm waiting for over a month now for buying a macbook. Waiting for "the back to school program"... but i guess i can wait forever. I live in Belgium and all surrounding countries have the program and can enjoy the discounts when they buy a computer and an Ipod. But no such thing in Belgium... I have no idea why... sad but true...

technology prices are always going to keep falling. We could compare what $3000 buys you today (a mac pro) to what it would have bought you 3.5 years ago... I reckon the mac pro will be a more impressive increase than your 3G ipod to the ones released yesterday.

I just checked it out on the Canadian EDU page and the regular price is $299 and when I went to education and whatnot, the price dropped down to $249 for the 60gb. ?????
It's $299 on my end for Edu Store in Canada

I'd be happy with buying an iPod for $299 CDN, It was $340 or so until yesterday (not sure if that's regular or discounted price), but could be wrong, $299 is heck alot better than paying $400 with an edu discount 2.5 years ago

Is it possible to buy a refurbished 1st gen nano at the apple store and still take advantage of the discount, it still shows up as being over on the 16th something doesnt seem right if it was over they should take that out

Wtf Has Happened With The Back To School Rebate?

The Edu Store only lists new models.
The rebate is for old models? What is the supposed price of old models?
How do I know the part numbers of old/new iPods?
Do I get a 160 € discount on a 149 € 2GB iPod nano ?
So effectively Apple gives me 11 € if I accept an iPod (1st Gen with 2nd Gen price) ?
Is Apple paying me to get rid of old iPods?
How can I buy old models if they are not displayed in the Store ? By phone?

Technology is weird man  You can get tomorrow something better than today for less money

PS: An iPod is as educational today as it was yesterday (or even a little more) ;)
The view that supposes that education cannot be entertaining is what gives education a bad name !

I teach a poetry class (where music is used as the poetry) and I use my iPod pretty much every day. My new iPod will allow me to play Shakespeare clips through a projector without having to carry DVDs from classroom to classroom.

who cares? if they are the same price as what the previous edu ipod was then great! more for your money. or do you feel you are better than others and deserve even cheaper stuff?

I mean I dont see how anybody can complain about this. Being a student in my opinion should not justify discounts anyways.

You would think that everybody would be happy about the prices falling (since I would think most here are not college students) but noooooo. I just guess everybody complaining used the student discount anyways whether they are a student or not
