If the OP really does work in an Apple Store he could get fired just for being on here.

Or pretty much any place that is working with Apple enough to have inside information such as that (I'm sure they wouldn't be pleased with him risking their contract with Apple as I'm sure that Apple has something about secrecy in the contract). I'm pretty sure his company would not be pleased that he was risking their contract with Apple. And let's remember, he didn't claim to work for Apple, but some company that works with them (and he wouldn't have info like that if he just worked at the Apple store anyways).

OP is being very generous to risk his job just to let some random strangers on a forum know about Apple's future plans.

Or very stupid (or both generous to risk his job and stupid).

Or just plain flat out lieing. I mean, why does he have to tell the mods first his secret proof that he's telling the truth? If he's not willing to give out that info, why even give it to them? And if he is, why isn't he posting it here.

I personally call shenanigans/troll.

The entire world (not just Verizon customers) would be upset if Apple does not update the iPhone 4. There is too much money involved for Apple to ignore a yearly update. Makes no sense to delay an update.
Exactly!!!

Also Verizon would want a new release to in June so they can discount the iPhone 4 to $99 and have the iPhone 5 at $199 and $299 to compete with the same price points as ATT.

There will also be another new iphone this year because believe it or not, the USA is not the only country in the world and just because another carrier got the iPhone there, doesn't mean the whole rest of the world will miss out just to make sure the small percentage of Verizon iPhone owners don't cry and regret not waiting a few months.

As I've said before, the Verizon iPhone launch is much bigger and more significant than the launches on multiple carriers in the UK or other parts of the world. While that statement may sound selfish or ethnocentric, I can guarantee that I'm not the only one that sees it this way. The Verizon iPhone launch is bringing a new version of the iPhone, not the same GSM product that has always been available.

There's a reason why the Verizon iPhone launch is getting so much attention, whereas the launches on multiple carriers in various countries was simply given a few seconds in the spotlight.

Wrong. The iPhone launch in other countries got MUCH more attention, it was just outside the US so you weren't aware of it. Verizon iPhone launch is actually getting a surprisingly small amount attention from Apple and most customers on other networks.

It could be true, but who knows. I mean, another iPhone release this summer right after the Verizon launch would be weird.

I expect a minor update, 4GS? this summer. Maybe the white model, new antenna frame cuts for AT&T and VZW, slight tweaks.

Let's just bump this thread in a few months and then you can all eat crow (if he's right).

I couldn't have put it better myself.

Anyway, I'm betting now, there will definatley be a new iPhone announced in june/july and it will have a lot of updates.

If anybody so wishes, feel free to laugh at me if i am wrong when the time comes, however unlikely it is.

At a minimum Apple will have to release some type of update to the iPhone 4 to keep it fresh. You can't go 24 months in the mobile phone market with the same product. Things to look for would be a "Bumperless" iPhone, maybe improved battery time and a bit faster CPU. Call it the iPhone 4Gs.

Look Apple releases on a yearly basis and this year will be no different. iPhone 5 in June.

Here's a side by side product I saw on CrunchGear. It will come in two versions.

It's being funded on Kickstarter.

Looks interesting, not sold on the price though...

Wrong thread?

No product in this market can go too long without an upgrade. Apple will most likely upgrade the insides of the phone, maybe the camera. I do think it will use the same body, maybe it will redesigned to fix the antenna but nothing major. Apple has heavily invested in this redesigned and IMO it's my favorite design so far (even when compared to other phones). There would be no reason for Apple to continue trying to make a white Iphone and then release a completely redesigned phone.

Cliffs:
- There will most definitely be an update to the Iphone 4 this Summer.
- The way Apple will deal with Verizon customers and people who buy the white Iphone is that it will be focused on the IOS and the changes will not be major.
- Most likely changes: upgraded processor, upgraded camera, fix the antenna problem.
- These changes will not change the way the phone really works (what app needs a faster processor?).
- 2012 we will have an unified Iphone 4G.

There will be a new iPhone this summer:

1. If Verizon customers don't like that they can go **** themselves.
2. Verizon customers are welcome to wait for the next model.
3. It may or may not look the same as the iPhone 4, just because the 3G and 3GS looked the same, that doesn't make a pattern. The 2G and 3G look totally different, lrn2statistics.

Obviously, I can't speak for everyone planning to buy the iphone when it comes out on Verizon but I will not be upset if a iphone is released this summer. I'm just excited to finally be able to get one.

Do you really think that there are going to be countless iPhone users jumping ship just because there was a shift in the update cycle?

Personally, I have no plans to change phones this year. There's a two-year contract on my iPhone 4. Perhaps it's better to release these things every two years, to align with the typical phone contract.

I'd actually be happy if the iPhone skipped a year.

As a developer, I like the surge of activity that a new iPhone or iOS device brings. I think I would miss the excitement. Yet, the Verizon launch could be that surge. If Apple is going to sell millions of Verizon iPhones this year, is it necessary to launch the iPhone 5 now? Perhaps not. A delay could actually build anticipation for 2012.

If iphone this summer is minor changes like a better camera or fixing the antenna problem and minor updates, what's the point of getting all rallied up about an iphone having to be released this summer?

Personally if I was on this forum I wouldn't care if they upgraded till next summer if it were only minor changes

GMAB! I can't believe how many posters are actually giving this poster (op) the benefit of the doubt. This guy (girl) must be laughing his ass off!

In June/July, the new iPhone (who knows what it will be called) will be released on ATT's network, Period!

If Apple don't launch an iPhone 5 this year, they will give a massive amount of market share to Android and possibily Windows Phone 7. Technology constantly moves on, so any company not releasing updates is dead in the water.

So, I'll join the 'not likely' crowd.

iPhone 5 might just be a minor revision of 4, but there will be something. Thinner, longer battery life, slightly better performance, maybe a 64G version, or more.

he could be right, I mean why would apple release iphone 4 in feb for verizon when they're coming out with a new one 4 months later?
i don't think apple would let people buy a product that will be outdated 4 months later.
and they really don't really have to keep up with android because apple already miles ahead with the apps & camera...even the 8mp cams on android is worst then iphone 4's. iphone 4 runs smoother then any new phone...i think apple can skip an upgrade.

I think of it as a fun debate... why does a new iPhone have to be released every year?

One Answer: Android

http://finance.yahoo.com/family-home/article/111990/your-new-smartphone-is-already-a-dinosaur

Another Answer: New gadgets are cool

Yet another answer: Meet customer demands... will 16/32 GB be good enough late this year? What about added features like HDMI, card slots, faster CPU? A lot can happen in two years.

My Android phone (G1) was obsolete before the contract was up. I suspect that my iPhone will last longer. I don't think it's necessary to update the iPhone this year. There will be enough craziness with the Verizon launch. I think it's better to launch a significant update to the iPhone, rather than a mediocre update. The iPhone 4 is a big update with Retina Display, iOS 4, Facetime and new design. I'm thinking that if the iPhone 5 launches this year, it will feel more like the iPhone 4.5, so there might be a reason to skip a year.
