I wasn't expecting an update, but I hoped for one.

My 3g blows ass and I'm ready to move on, it's too late for an iphone 4 (outdated ****)

I hoped they'd say something to keep me around, but I can't wait 3 months for a minor update to an 8MP camera.

LG Gx2 is starting to look nice.
Thanks apple for allowing me to jump the iphone ship that much easier.

I HIGHLY doubt Verizon had anything to do with when the next iPhone would be released.

Sure it did! If they would have waited with the usual release cycle, (this Summer), then Apple would have revealed the new hardware as usual. Instead of holding back because they just re-released a 6-month old phone with new radio.

Can you imagine all the pissed off Verizon users if Apple would have made their iPhone 4 version obsolete in less than 6 months?

That kind of thing never stopped Apple before.

I don't think the millions of Verizon customers in the U.S. would stop Apple from trying to sell to the Billions of customers worldwide. If the iPhone 5 was ready I have no doubt they'd have announced it today.

I seriously doubt that Verizon is what's holding it up.

My guess is that "just before the Christmas season" is a far, far better time to announce electronics and Apple wants their phone to go there rather than "right before summer" so that the iPhone is old news by the time November comes around.

I certainly think that is part of it.

I just hope the new one has a radio that works with multiple networks. I'll gladly then pay full price not to be tied to a carrier.

Well, whom should we blame then? I need a name, dammit! I think it's that Scott Forstall guy. He intentionally delayed the release of iOS 5 which subsequently pushed back the new phone release.

And now I have to walk around for another couple of months under this immense burden of not knowing when the next iPhone will be released. Not to mention the shame of owning a 3GS that is nearly two years old!!! I'm gutted!!

what should i do? i dont have an iphone...and im debating whether or not to get the 4, or wait possibly 3-6 months for the new one...because the announcement for the new iphone wont be until sept/oct

I highly doubt Verizon would have staked their reputation with a phone and have it obsolete very soon. They are not that stupid.

:D
I just got off the phone with the suicide hotline. They talked me down. I am good enough, smart enough, and gosh darnnit the 3GS is a decent phone!

As I said above, you should blame Santa Claus.

That answer makes the most sense to me. So many electronics are bought that time of year. How much do you think Apple enjoyed being 5 or 6 months out of date every holiday-shopping-season as compared to all the new Android phones?

I highly doubt Verizon would have staked their reputation with a phone and have it obsolete very soon. They are not that stupid.

They sell all kinds of Android phones that are constantly being updated. If that kind of thing is so stupid why are they so heavily invested in Android? Seems to work out fine for them as far as I can tell.

That sure as hell doesn't stop them from selling the iPhone 4 up until the day that the iPhone 5 is released. Poor argument.

They can be releasing the next iPhone later than usual for a number of reasons - my guess that it's either because a redesign was expedited due to the antenna issues or to make sure that they can bump up the capacity to 32 and 64 GBs.

1. When a new iPhone is coming current supplies are strained beyond availability so very few people fall here. Also, Apple has offered (even carriers) free upgrades if you fall within a time frame. iPhone to iPhone 3G and so on and so forth.

2. 64GB capacity is a poor argument for delay. Redesign is as well seeing as the current Verizon iPhone is already a redesign. Poor argument.

So what? It applies to anyone buying the iPhone 4 today, as the new iPhone is probably about 4 months away - the same timeframe between the Verizon iPhone launch and the typical launch of the new iPhone. If they were so worried about making your iPhone purchase "obsolete", why would they still be selling the iPhone 4 right now? They aren't - that's why it's a poor argument.

I take it then that you're privy to the supply chain of 64 GB NAND flash modules?

Hardly, plus they were developing the CDMA iPhone 4 in tandem with the GSM version.

Were you watching the same WWDC feed I was?

Agreed. Selling my iPhone 4 asap, getting an Android and a iPod touch. I'll still have the iOS 5 with my iPod and iPad.

That way I'll have the best of both worlds. Apples iOS 5 and Androids widgets.

Just get an iPhone 4 then. If you're always waiting for the latest thing, you'll never get it because you'll always be waiting and waiting until you die. lol, life's short, just DO IT!!!!
