about 6 to 8 months ago someone was doing tests with a satelite that had a g4 inside. it was only a small thing. think it had a beefed up airport system. think it was for internet and or phones. they sent one up. the plan was to have lots of them in stationery orbit around the planet. can't remember the full story on why or how it all worked.

Re: OS X for PC's? No way!!!

"Apple is a software company first" - Steve Jobs. Look at m$ - hell, i'm not saying that Apple should be like m$ at all, but m$ only made software (most of it they stole or purchased from other companies) and look at where they are today! If Apple can make a version of OS X for the PC, this would be great for Apple. Why? a) You'd increase the number of developers currently coding for OS X and b) the profits would go back into Apple Computer, which can then be used for intensive Apple hardware ad campaigns. With EXPOSURE, Apple can become the market leader. I bet that many people out there have no clue as to what Apple's up to... (I read a post here on macrumors.com the other day about a guy who didn't think that apple made laptops). They probably think that m$ is the only choice for personal computers. As for this killing Apple hardware, obviously osx would run better under apple hardware, provide 'seamless hardware + software integration' and if need be, Apple could add limitations to the PC version just to make ppl want to buy a mac. With OS X for PC and a well-run marketing campaign for apple hardware - the next time people buy a new comp, they'd most likely think different and buy a mac.

BUT, lets not try and read too much into comments from Apple on apple.com - they might just have a damn fast processor (G4 - 2.4GHz) to really kick the Pentium4's ass or something similar... Or they might have NOTHING at all to do with PC v. Mac - "To go where no PC has ever gone before" might just be a gem from Apple's marketing department to get our whole anti-PC (die die die) emotions rolling behind the Macworld Keynote. The Keynote's got a huge ammount of momentum behind it, all the rumors, anti-pc, apple's technology is something you'd expect to see in the future but is here now. I hope for apple's sake, that they've got something pretty big for us, because judging by posts here, if they released a 17" LCD iMac for under $1000, we'd be hearing yawns.

Damn that was a long post.

I think......

When it says 'to go where no PC has gone before' it makes me think that the PDA thing might hold some truth, but this thing, although may be the size of a conventional PDA, is going to be far from PDA stats. If they can fit a 5 gig HDD in the iPod, maybe they found a 10 gig one for this new device, a 400Mhz G3 and 128MB of RAM would make it complete as a fully featured 'Pocket Power Mac' of its own. Possibly running a stripped down version of Mac OS X, with less of the eye candy as not to sap the processsor power.....

Hmmmmmmm

iStep, the Apple Rocket

I almost forgot...
The countdown is a good hint for my rocket-theory.
And a rocket can blow one away, that's for sure.

And it's big... even to their standards.
And it's a backstage pass to the future. Because time and space are related, aren't they?

It all makes sense.

It basically means a MAC range with USB 2.0 and Firewire2.0 as well as maybe combo drives and a 1 gig niccard and optical HD.

NoPC in the market provides these standards all in one!!!

Then again, I don't think anyone's ever gone to bed with a PC before either...

Except for a notebook, you're probably right.

So, it will be available in 2 versions - iMan and iWoman.

And many different colors of course.

what if...

Hmm, what if each of the 7 messages referred to a corresponding product?

- iPhoto
- LCD iMac
- New G4s?
- G5s?
- Upgraded Portables
- Digital Lifestyle device(s)
- OSX on a Wintel
- PDA

There's more than enought rumors to justify this. Any thoughts people....????

My sources

tell me that the billion dollars that will be set aside from M$ for education will be funneled to Apple. Apple will create a University for all its registered users and with the Billion dollars, we will all get new computers on Bill!

Or

Steve invented @#!$?!! WARP DRIVE BABY!!!!

m$ will never end up settling - their proposals are so unreasonable.

and as for an apple uni set aside for all mac users... well, that's about as likely as spymac.com as getting something right. (yeah, i did get the joke but i take every opportunity to discredit spymac.com - as if they need it :) )

G5?

Guys, I think you're going too far! I've heard that the G5 that Motorola made is for something other than Macs. The Appolo might be here, but I don't know how a G5 could also be introduced.

Man! All this speculation sounds like the world is going to end on January 7th! These next 3 days seem soooooo long!
So far, to average out the rumors:

G3 (750fx) imacs @ 1Ghz (up to) with a flat panel (mayyybe tablet with wireless stuff?)
G4 new powermacs up to 1.2GHz DP
an iBook update with colors, and standard combo drive (Sahara chip)
A new divice other than the iMac (Digital hub related?, Newton?, update to iPod? )
An iCam/iPhoto software/hardware. (probably just iPhoto SW)

I wanna buy an iBook soon, but do you guys think there will be an update or some cool new features? (Gigawire?)

Can someone PLEASE explain to me what the iWalk is and what the Gigawire is? (or is SUPPOSED to be?) I read something about the iWalk but they had already taken down the pics because of Apple Legle crap. Thanx so much.

hmmm

Nokia recently announced the communicator would be available in the US(the phone of all phones). I think apple has a competitive device or they will put OS X on the communicator.

Nokia do not make the phone of all phones. Sonyericsson do - hey, what about sonyapplericsson. now that'd work!

I am almost agreeing with you except for OSX on wintel (which I think wouldn't be wize for apple to do beause apple is good because it makes the os and the hardware) and G5. I'm HOPING for a G5, but I really doubt it. But I donno! Maybe apple is giving me a surprise!

NASA Expedition to the Mars

Hi Folks!
Could it be possible that it is "just" a NASA Expedition to the Mars and the Space Shuttle is filled with great Macs or even driven by some Macs? (No Astronauts required)

But I have no idea!

I have got some bad gas...

It is going to be hard to get a connection to watch the webcast. I have watched them all, some after the fact because I couldn't get a live connection.

When Forbes and other business companies start stirring the hype, like they have, everyone on the planet is going to want to know what steve has to say.

I hope SJ knows what sort of frenzy he is making and we have now, thanks to the hype, have expectations that demand to be exceeded.

If I could get Quickbooks for OSX instead of that ancient 4.0, I would be a happy man.

If my Palm GPS software worked on a mac, I would be a happy man.

If the old strategic conquest worked on os x I would be a happy man.

Unreal Tournament, once again a happy man.

AND IF MACROMEDIA WOULD GET OFF THEIR A55, I could TURN OFF CLASSIC FOR F#($IN' EVER!!

Well whatever it is......

Steve has us all worked up about it!!

I bet he is sat there in front of his Mac laughing hysterically on all the obsurd theories being brought up around the net.

We will all just have to wait for Monday, which is a longer wait for some of us, as the Keynote doesnt start till 9PM in the UK! Aaaarrggghhh!

Too late, too late, Bill.

Here is why Steve Jobs moved his keynote and what he is going to announce. Eat your heart out, Bill.

DURING HIS KEYNOTE at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas next week, Microsoft's Bill Gates will demonstrate the AirPanel 150, a flat-panel wireless monitor from Viewsonic that allows users to carry it from room to room.

iAM

i am a mac user
i am unique
i am special
i am somebody, and damnit people like me.

Apple is announcing the iAM. Personal mirror and digital photograph device to help with self esteem. Because we are all OK.

When you are feeling down, look in the Apple shaped mirror and say, "Im ok." If that doesnt work, try looking at some digital pictures, which you may have doctored, of you doing fun things.... Ok now I am freaking myself out. uuurrrrggghhhh.

Games!

I wish classic games worked on OSX! Some claim that I have no CD-ROM in the drive, when THERE IS!
ANYWAY,

MORE APPS for OSX PLEASE!! More apps that not only WORK in OSX, but work BETTER in OSX. Something to show us how great the potential for the OS is!
By OSX v.11 (I don't know what they are going to call it after OSX 10.9.9) I want it to be blazing fast and NO COMPARISON to OS9! (or to XP if possible..)

To make the developers move Apple's gotta make their own amazing app. Not like iTunes which already exists for 9 too. Something to really show off. Not like Office v.X that's so much like v. 2001.

I'm hoping they have some great app stored for OSX for this expo!

When does it stop.

OK kick me in the head. I forgot to deselect email notification. When will it stop??????????????? THE HORROR!!! But I bet that the last time it ever happens.

it's just dual processing

I think apple will put 2 processors in each mac and not anything else because Motorola can't deliver new chip's due to technical and employment problems.
Apple has to decide for possibly a new chip before july this year or to buy the Motorola Powerpc division.
It's probably the only thing they can do.
I hate to dissappoint anyone. I hope it's enough.
