Hmm.. looks familiar
It's just me, or does that "iWalk" in the video look a lot like the Franklin eBookMan?

$1800 for a LCD??? what a stupid article! and i don't seriously think they'll speedbump the iBooks... maybe the powerbooks because Apple are going to have a hard time marketing a 667MHz PowerBook, which is their best laptop vs. a 1.whatever GHz G4 Apollo or G5 (unlikely).
guess we'll wait and see, but 1800 for an LCD comp will fall over in the market...

There is so much talk of a "new" iBook? C'mon people. You guys have lost it.
What is the oldest form factor(s) being used still in Apple's lineup?
Definitely the iMac
Definitely the PowerMac G3/G4 case
We will see new form factors for those Machines for sure.
We will not see:
OSX on Intel
Machines over 1.6GHZ that are shipping
G5's
Maybe Apple has licensed the gyroscope technology in the Segway, and it is built-in to the LCD monitor and it's like as thin as a peice of paper and balances on your desk. It uses flash memory cards instead of hard drives so it's quiet and uses Internet 2 technology anywhere in the World completely wirelessly with AirWire Technology.

Apple is making most of her money via selling hardware, it wouldn't make sense to port OS X to PC's... who would buy an Apple if you could do the same trick with a cheap wintel machine?

I don't think it's just new software, as it was last time. I agree that the design of the towers and imacs are way too old. I really think it could be that they put a G5 (or Apollo named G5) in a dodecahedron case, as someone said a couple of days ago. It would be very Steve Jobsy to introduce such a shape, don't you think? And that would definitely be a new thing. If it's just the LCD iMac there really has to be something special about it to justify the pre-expo hyping from Apple, like the modular, semi-portable imac/ibook/PDA mixture handwriting recognizing idea. I mean, there are LCD PC's out there, so just a plain LCD screen isn't really that new, right?

Ok, what do we know?
1) Gigawire
Apple registered "Gigawire" which there is speculation that it's wireless firewire running at 54 mbs. 54 mbs is fast enough to stream TV quality video through the air.
2) 1 Ghz G3 from IBM
IBM has said that they can get the G3 to 1 Ghz. This makes for a very powerful video encoding processor.
3) Quicktime 6
MPEG-4 baby. Streaming video standard.
4) Large Hard drives in small spaces
What has the trend in hard drive sizes been lately? They are getting quite large, and staying very smalll. So hard drive space is in a abundance.
5) Digitial Convergence
The iPod started it. Apple is in the digital lifestyle business. Computing as we know it is on the way out.
6) iDVD
Apple likes video
7) Rumored price of new iMac $1800.
ibooks don't cost that much and they are supposed to be more expensive than desktops.
ok so you put these all together, and you get:
iMac PVR (Personal Video Recorder)
or some variation of that. Imagine. An iMac that's not just a computer any more but a digital hub using Gigawire. Records TV shows from your cable signal like a TiVO while streaming the picture to your TV. Integration into your home stereo system with iTunes. It makes a lot of sense though I'm interested in what you guys think?
They would need two devices or maybe one that sits between your cable signal and the TV. It streams the signal to the iMac PVR for recording, and during playback it receives the signal from the iMac, kind of like a Super Airport. It would also act as your home wireless hub. That's the key, get eveything wireless. They are trying to get everything wireless. Hmm.
