I was going to buy mine full price on launch date, but I'll just wait it out and get the 64GB and a few cases. It's worth waiting a few weeks until my contract is up. Better use of my money as I'm stuck with AT&T anyway.

I need the phone on day 1, so:

Plan A - purchase online at midnight on 9/20 ONLY if I can pick it up at an Apple store the same day.

Plan B - if above plan is not an option, call off work and wait in line a couple of hours before 8:00 am:(

Just wondering, what would be the turnaround time for ordering online if opted to be shipped to your house and ordered at midnight 9/20?

----------

I'm almost considering just biting the bullet and pre-ordering a 32GB 5C for the same price...

To deal with what may be a hassle or not deal with the hassle....Decisions...Decisions

I have a feeling that this is Apple's intention. They've been largely promoting the 5c over the 5s (front page apple.com, /iphone, YouTube, carrier websites, etc.)

Must... wait... for 5s...

I have queued up at the Bath store in England quite a few times and apart from a few scalpers, it's normally quite civilised. So i get there at midnight with just 2 or 3 people in front of me and settle down with a few movies and watch the clock wind down

No plan really. My contract with Sprint ends October 13th, so on October 14th I'll walk into Verizon and pick up my new phone.

Option 1:
I think I'm going to try to order online (I assume at midnight PST like 5 preorders last year) for pick up in store. If that works, I'll arrive around 8 and take my place in the in-store pickup line that will be in place of the pre-order line.

Option 2:
If the only option is home delivery, I might take that especially if its within a couple of days. This will be easiest for me as I am trying to upgrade someone else's phone and don't want to hassle with why I'm not said person. I contacted Apple and they said so long as I have that persons 2 forms of ID and if I'm the main number on the account I should be fine.

Option 3:
Head to the Apple store bright and early, although not too early as the mall won't be open yet and for the 4 launch security made people leave until later. At least this way I'll get to practice for Black Friday and the awful possibility of my PS4 pre-order not coming in on launch.

I will be upgraded through my carrier so won't be heading to any Apple stores. I won't be waiting in a line from stupid times in the early hours of the morning.

My Dilemma is do I try and go down to a Vodafone UK store in a less busy town in the morning to home to pick one up (like 9 am when they actually open) or wait until Vodafone let me order one online and hope it arrives promptly.

Obviously if I head down to the store and get told there is insufficient stock and I wont be able to get one it may end up being too late for a quick delivery by ordering online.... decisions

But that whole reservation system was to fend off the hordes of scalpers who would stand in line. Now that there's a simultaneous launch in China, the number of scalpers will decrease dramatically.

Hope so. But I doubt that supply could match demand in Mainland China.

My prior experience with the iPhone 5 reservation wasn't good at all. I've entered the reservation draw every day for over a month and still didn't get picked.

Apple don't keep track of who've "won" the lottery before, so scalpers would keep reserving even after they've successfully purchased. They don't even have to wait in line. That's a lottery without a cost.

Sit down at computer > Click on Apple Online Store > Purchase iPhone 5S > Return to my normal life > iPhone 5S arrives. End of story

I used an upgrade through my carrier on the 7th. I didnt want to, but my iphone 5 was stolen. Good thing I have two weeks to return the phone and only pay a small re-stocking fee. So I will be getting up early and waiting in line to ensure I get the phone on the 20th. As I only have until the 21st to return the phone I previously purchased.

Yawn,

Guess ill wait for Apple to announce a new phone, instead of a speed bumped 5 with a useless feature and a 5 in a plastic case.

I couldn't have been less impressed if they announced the utterly uselessly un-upgradable Mac Pro again

Hopefully next years iPhone 6 will be a step up, instead of the 5S and 5C step nowhere.

I have this thing called a job. It allows me the means to afford a new phone. But it also requires me to be present at the office between 9 and 5 moday through friday. Therefore I will not waste my time waiting in line.

I'm going to stand in line.

I really don't want to, but I'm going to get there at about 4 AM and hopefully still have a good spot in line.

I'm holding out hope that AT&T will allow pre-orders for the 5s.

Otherwise, I'll proably just order it online on the 20th.

I'm under my dad's phone plan still (and will be until they force us off of unlimited data) I've always ordered new phones online and had them on release day. This time I guess I'm stuck going to the Apple store. will I have any problems with ID?

So just spoke with a friend of mine who is some kind of upper management deal at Apple Store. Inventory Control Specialist or something like that...

According to him and take it however you choose, The orders for the 5S should be live at 12am just like the pre-order would be. The stores will open at 8am and according to him "Should have more than enough in supply". Here is the kicker...There will be no option to pick up in store. You order online you ship it to your house. If you want the phone on launch day you must go to the store.

Now I asked him was this all about creating hype for what some are calling a "lackluster" phone. He was told that Apple wanted their customers old and new to experience feeling of the anticipation and excitement that comes with waiting in line with other Apple fans again or for the first time. They consider it part of "the Apple experience"...I think that's just BS team building poppycock.

My opinion? They don't want to deal with all the hassles of keeping pre-orders and store shipments for however many countries organized for 2 phone launches and chose the 5C to make available for preorder instead of the 5S.

For all we know it could have been a coin toss in TC's office.

Anyway, I'm going to start trying to order my 5S at 12am on Thursday night...Just to be on the safe side
