I hate touch bar. I have waited for years for Apple to get rid of it. And finally they did it! I think it was a bad design from the beginning. It makes you watch your keyboard which sucks. Physical keys are needed for proper touch typing. A far better solution would've been physical keys (with OLED caps) and a narrower touch element which can be used to control things where slider makes sense. A full width TouchBar was just stupid and I'm glad they got rid of it!

TouchBar was nice, didn't hate it, but it didn't really evolve and get better. Seemed to be more of just a stunt that never got picked up. I'll miss pieces of it but after a day I won't even notice it. I'll still be using a 2019 16" with Touch Bar alongside the M1 Max 16" so it'll be interesting to see how I work going back and forth

I like the Touch Bar it seems silly for them to have axed if you ask me.

They could have tried function keys + the Touch Bar to appease those who prefer the keys, but to drop it altogether is a shame.

I think the cost of producing the chip increased and therefore they need to cut costs to make the production meet the budget. It's expensive, but creatives everywhere will be trying to get it. An iPad running as a screen does give you back the Touch Bar... at least it did with a touchbar device.

I find myself touching the screen sometimes, going back and forth from my iPad. Will they ever offer touch screen?

I don't think so, just universal apps and a touch machine... they'll eventually give it more ram and put higher end chips in it.

This all seems so bizarre on Apples part to basically undo all the changes made in 2016 and take a step backwards. With Airplay and wireless tech with do people need a dedicated HDMI port so badly? The Touch Bar was a nice differentiator too.
I hate loosing dongles, or letting someone borrow it to find they "forget it" at home... THE SD CARD feature is the main reason. I hated not having the dedicated SD card reader when compared to my previous 2017 Mac Pro.

Still excited for the HDR display!

With the function keys being full width, they could have accommodated both a row of function keys and the touch bar instead...
But I'm not gonna complain. Touch bar made necessary to look at the keyboard at all times. Eyes belong on the screen.

I love the Touch Bar... and now that we know it's gone. Will it come back at all?

Do you use it? probably not often... but is it a nice feature to have?

Thoughts?

Touch Bar - Thank God and Greyhound, it's gone... what a useless, over-hyped waste of space on a keyboard... (wanna know what I REALLY think of it?)

What about Touch Bar on the bottom of the screen.... OR Touch Bar on the menu bar... right on top... or TOUCH DISPLAYS ...

Touchscreen under trackpad could be the best possible application.
But still, it was doomed from the start.
It was impossibile to port it on desktops, and so impossible for it to be truly embraced by developers.

I'll miss it, but the performance, features and design upgrade makes it worth loosing it! Goodbye touchbar, too bad devs didn't take advantage of you and haters got you down.

Enjoy your fixed function keys.

How many of you knew that hated it did two "clicks" to adjust the volume.

I love the Touch Bar. Filling in forms it is heaven sent! I honestly dont understand why people are so hyped about functions keys that we have had forever, besides volume and screen intensity I barely used them.
Touch Bar was an evolution, you could set it to be function keys. But we cant make Fn keys into Touch Bar. So glad I have the MBP M1 that still has it, just hope it will be supported for a long time!

Let the flames begin... 😆

The touchbar was a gimmick to fool people that Apple was busy making innovations at a time when they clearly were not. Apple has now given us the notch -- another blemish people will have to gaze at daily. I mean I am all for function over form -- but this is preposterous.

Can you explain why you hate the notch? Seriously, it gives you more screen space by raising the menu up and you get the entire previous screen area. You can set dark mode and not see it. And it makes the macbook stand out.

Seriously, why do you hate the notch?

Could have been a dedicated wireless keyboard with touch display.

It blocks the view of the top of the screen. No screen should have a built in obstruction. It's preposterous.

Support for it will be dwindling but I imagine apps will just keep their current support and not add to it. What about touch keys like each key being a LCD… it would be asked for various configurations

People use FaceTime - and Zoom. I’d rather a notch so I can have more display room for my apps than no notch and all that unused space on top.

Grant it, I’d love a hole punch or a camera under the LED, but we will get over that!

If Apple would have matched the color temperature to the display better and allowed for brightness control, haptic feedback and didn't insist on adding 'TrueTone' (which made it look ridiculous), I wouldn't have hated it as much.
