I don't miss it at all, but I have to say I was one of the people who quite liked-it and thought it was a shame it was one of those features Apple released and then chose to do nothing with.

This new keyboard is so much better. Even using the Touch ID button feels more satisfying. The Touch Bar was a user-hostile abomination.
To you maybe, but not this user. Not hostile. Not an abomination. I liked it.

And that’s the problem. Apple keeps dividing people with polarizing decisions. Headphone jack vs. none. Lightning vs. USB-C. Notch vs. no notch. Black bezel vs. white. All black keys vs. contrast between keys. Touch ID vs. Face ID. Magsafe vs. traditional cords. And now Touch Bar vs. function keys.

Have used my new 14” for a couple of hours. Have missed the Touch Bar for autofill and Tapback reactions in Messages. Also liked the precision of the sliders for brightness/volume. It’s far from a deal breaker, but do think the static function keys are a regression. Would like to have seen both physical function keys and a Touch Bar on these Macs: would’ve kept everyone happy.

Maybe one day we will get a hybrid of OLED keys which still mechanically press, but can still dynamically change function depending on the app.

I tried hard to love the Touch Bar on my 16" Intel system but I just didn't. It was cumbersome to use, it wrecked muscle memory for common actions such as altering the display brightness, media control and audio adjusting.

I essentially had it set to global control buttons all the time because of this. But before I did that I tried for weeks to get used to it, I installed third party apps like BetterTouchTool to customise it, I tried pre-made stuff, I tried making my own stuff.

I just couldn't get it to a state where I found it superior to having tactile physical buttons. Also sometimes I did find the Touch Bar hard to see. Especially if I'm at a low angle to the keyboard deck.

Having the physical keys back is for me perfection. I don't hate the idea of the touch bar but I do hate that it replaced usable function keys. Having it on the hinge pointed towards the user at a 45 degree angle would have been far superior in my opinion.

Touchbar was a terrible design decision. Lenovo tried it and got held over the coals by professionals forcing Lenovo to turn it back. Took apple way too long to “listen”

Throw that crap in the MacBook Air for the people that just use their computers for web browsing and music. Doesn’t belong in a computer used by professionals.

I understand not enjoying it for what you do, but this is a silly comment. I'm a Software Developer and use virtualisation a lot, and for that, I agree that it's less than ideal. But I'm also a digital artist and for that, the Touch Bar was quite useful, Photoshop had pretty good implementations for it. I'm gonna miss not having it on Photoshop more than it bothered me having it when I'm programming so it is gonna be a loss for me. Does that make me less professional?

Professional is a wide net to cast and people gatekeep the word in this community more than in any other I'm a part of, ignoring the multiple use cases that fall under the umbrella of the word, but not necessarily what their profession is. It absolutely belongs in a computer used by professionals. Just not professionals in your field.

I didn't mind it but it was gimmicky... Never really used it. I wouldn't have minded if they kept it tho - it was a non issue for me.

Is it just me or that new “all black keyboard” looks terrible and out of place?

I can’t even look at it, it’s hideous ?

Oh, on topic:
I used the TouchBar and I’m really disappointed they got rid of it.

Guess I’ll keep my current 16” MBP for a while.

Thought the same. But now I kinda like it. I have an issue with the notch tho.
