I just called the AT&T store again - they HAVE NOT BEEN TOLD ANYTHING ABOUT THIS! According to the store manager, they haven't heard any announcement or gotten any official word and still plan on having some in stock...WTF?

AT&T = EPIC FAIL

just called my local AT&T and they verified that they will have iphone 4s in stock on the 24th and everyone who waits in line that didnt pre-order gets theirs on a first come-first serve basis.

***this june 29th stuff is BS everyone call your local AT&T store to verify!!!***

I have to agree with this strategy if it means that those who went through pre-order hell and have paid in advance are at the front of the inventory line.

Not sure why everyone's getting so bent out of shape over this. They pre-sold all the inventory that they're getting. Therefore walk-ins are out of luck until the next shipment (the 29th). Why does this indicate a massive "fail" on AT&T's part?

And to all those who don't have a pre-order or reservation expecting to walk into an Apple Store on Thursday, if I were you I wouldn't get my hopes up.

Yeah well mine shows a delivery time of 10 am at my local AT&T store tomorrow. You will bet your ass I will be there waiting to pick it up at 10:01!! I am not gonna give those clowns any more chances to screw up my order. They already did that once! If you think they are gonna turn me away and say "go wait for a phone call" ha...not leavin with out it.

You may "think" this is bad news, but not having to stand in line for 14 hours while the AT&T store employee continuously reboots the computer and texts his friends about all the "annoying apple people" is a good thing.

Darth - I'd agree except AT&T stores apparently didn't get the memo and are telling people they will have some available for walk-ins. I myself called a store and verified they had no idea AT&T made an announcement - even though they are an AT&T store.

reservations do count

thinking that arriving at 4 AM, may not be early enough, might have to do a midnight showing and watch movies on my Ipad all night :( at least I do have a reservation... hope that actually means something.

i contacted apple about my reservation and asked what they meant in the confirmation email where it read something like "pre-qualification does not guarantee an iphone" he said he did not know why that was even there, but that as long as it said to come in on the 24th then there will be an iphone with your name on it that no person can take until the end of the day

I'm getting mine at Wal-Mart. They said they won't be able to run credit checks until 9am, but since I'm adding a line to my family plan I won't need to run a check.

If you had to preorder through ATT (small business account, ordering more than 1), you'd better call them up to make sure your order was actually completed. Even though I was given a preorder number and a confirmation email, they couldn't find my order when I called a while ago. I was told that a special "team" within att is dealing with all preorders trying to fix them or something like that. I was hoping to get my phones this week, but I'm not holding my breath anymore. *sigh*

On a side note, in amongst being put on hold a dozen times, the att sales person I talked to said they just got an email saying they could accept orders for the White iPhone 4 now ....

i need to be grateful i'm getting mine tomorrow instead of wondering if i'm going to get it today.

Wow.

That's total crap.

Thanks to AT&T's servers, not all of us could *get* a pre-order.

They didn't save any stock for anyone who actually is willing to sit in front of their god awful stores for hours upon hours in the morning?

Wow, demand is amazing for this iPhone release. I am sitting this one out because I am the only one on our family plan who is eligible for an upgrade, and FaceTime calling would not be too much fun if my wife could not participate. I remember deciding last year on the release day that I was going to take the plunge and purchase the iPhone 3GS, drove to one of the less-popular AT&T stores, stood in line for about 45-minutes to an hour, and walked out with a nice new 32gb model. That won't even be a possibility for folks this year.

I am curious how long it will take to sell 3 million iPhone 4's.

What is the word on Walmart then? Does anyone know what time they will make what stock they have available?

geez...

Really, REALLY glad I pre-ordered. Hope Im lucky enough to get mine tomorrow. As for the AT&T Retail Stores, ya I have a friend that works in one and she says they will pretty much always sell inventory selectively to "new activation" customers...work incentive thing. Those looking to simply upgrade are gonna gonna have a harder time (with AT&T stores)

This is actually a really good idea. There going to be crowded as it is... not to mention that the inventory for walk ins is probably going to be so small to begin with that it would just be wasting peoples time that tried.

Can't imagine being this guy (https://www.macrumors.com/2010/06/18/camping-out-for-the-iphone-4-the-line-starts-here/) who's made a vacation out of waiting for his iPhone 4's arrival at his local Apple store.

And this -
Over the next week as iPhone 4 lines continue to form, feel free to email us photos at tips@macrumors.com. The iPhone 4 will officially launch on June 24th. While the initial allotment of pre-orders are spoken for, there should be a sizable stock available for walk-in purchases
- might not be happening at all.

Those famous Apple lines attract additional sales but I can't imagine any lines forming now.
