Exactly why I'm  at AT&T for this blunder now too... Apple Stores are going to be a mob scene on Thursday...

Awesome. AT&T continues to show their prowess at all things FAIL. I expect nothing more from them!

Apple store FTW.

Wow.

That's total crap.

Thanks to AT&T's servers, not all of us could *get* a pre-order.

They didn't save any stock for anyone who actually is willing to sit in front of their god awful stores for hours upon hours in the morning?

Because it's AT&T's fault that Apple couldn't produce enough iPhones to meet demands....

I just got off the the phone with an AT&T store about an hour befroe this posted. I was told there are two blocks, those for walk-ins, and those for preorders. I hope this is true, is only fair for those with preorders.

lol - so, the phrase "released on the 24th" means... well... absolutely f**k all to AT&T! so, basically, they sold all their stock off in pre-orders so they have nothing to sell on the official launch date... That's an extreme example of seriously piss-poor management!

I think O2 in the UK had the right idea (and i don't say that combination of words very often!) when they refused to sell pre-orders and insisted on holding onto all of their stock until the official release date...

I bet Apple are seriously pissed at AT&T..

Okay this might sound crazy but... maybe you can use your current phone until the 29th until they get more units? I know I know it's madness but it's so crazy it might work!

You can "roll your eyes" all you want bro.
If you actually would read what I wrote...

I'm upset they didn't specifically allocate some for in-store, non-preorders.

just called my local AT&T and they verified that they will have iphone 4s in stock on the 24th and everyone who waits in line that didnt pre-order gets theirs on a first come-first serve basis.

***this june 29th stuff is BS everyone call your local AT&T store to verify!!!***

might want to wait another day before calling. Their system is broken down enough as it is, it wouldn't be at all surprising if their lower-tier flunkies at the retail stores have yet to get word of this change.

Really, REALLY glad I pre-ordered. Hope Im lucky enough to get mine tomorrow. As for the AT&T Retail Stores, ya I have a friend that works in one and she says they will pretty much always sell inventory selectively to "new activation" customers...work incentive thing. Those looking to simply upgrade are gonna gonna have a harder time (with AT&T stores)

And it's no wonder their customer satisfaction scores are so high!!!

Fock em, I'm sick of them and the Buttheads at Apple. Can't wait to get an Incredible and a carrier with a real 3G network.

I just got off the phone with the 3 closest stores to me in the last 5 minutes, and they all stated that they WILL have iPhones for walk ins.

Interesting, because when I called my small, local AT&T store during the mayhem of 6/15 they told me they were not taking any pre-orders at their store. They would sell them on first come, first serve basis on 6/24. So who knows?

Thankfully, I finally succeeded on 6/15 (through Apple), and mine is expected tomorrow.:)

Lets hope this is in an effort to make good on the promise of a " Reserve"

They need to take priority over people who didn't bother to try

agreed....seems they sold the walk in stock as pre-orders! At least they are honoring the pre-orders, even if it is rough on those who didn't

I'd think that AT&T and Apple are doing you guys a favor by offering to ship phones straight to your door so you don't have to line up at 2 in the morning and wait outside for a bloody phone. If sleeping outdoors and pissing under a tree is your sort of thing, that's what camping is for.

I just got off the phone with the main AT&T store here and the lady told me to call back in an hour because she doesn't have an answer. She said they were discussing it. :(

who saw this coming?? i did! with all the stuff happening during pre-order and updating to ios4 i knew things would turn into a cluster....well you know the rest ;)

I called my local corporate at&t store and was told they would have phones available thursday for walk in customers for sure.

I also called 611 and the guy said they don't know about inventory for individual stores but as far as he knows, they will have phones thursday.

For all of you who are wondering why some of us are upset, this would be my reason. I understand if ATT wants to delay phone availability for walk-ins, and definitely can wait a bit longer for that opportunity. What makes me annoyed is that the website says one thing, yet it appears almost every store seems to be saying something completely different.

It shows, in my opinion, a complete lack of professionalism to not give your retail stores advance warning BEFORE you make an announcement, as there are going to be TONS of customers relying on what ATT stores told them only to potentially get screwed, and that in turn will lead to a lot of angry people.

Not sure why everyone's getting so bent out of shape over this. They pre-sold all the inventory that they're getting. Therefore walk-ins are out of luck until the next shipment (the 29th). Why does this indicate a massive "fail" on AT&T's part?

And to all those who don't have a pre-order or reservation expecting to walk into an Apple Store on Thursday, if I were you I wouldn't get my hopes up.

Yeah I don't get the people calling this fail on AT&T's part. Pre-selling all their inventory, such a fail? Say what?

By the way I suspect a lot of phones will be available because of all the dbags who created multiple reservations and/or also preordered online.

Glad mine is being delivered tomorrow.
Amen, brother.
Im still screwed waiting for mine to ship at this point I really hate AT&T
Im so effing pissed off right now.
Ugh. I placed my pre-order with AT&T on the 15th before they stopped taking them, and my order still says "In Progress" and their phone reps are unable to tell me anything more than "you'll get an email when it ships". I can't believe it hasn't shipped yet. I can't help but wonder if I'm going to get mine by the 24th or not?

I've always ordered from Apple in the past and never had any questions or concerns. It got here exactly when they said it would. I sure hope my AT&T order does too, or... Tell you what, I'll never pre-order with AT&T again, that's for sure.

Radio Shack

I called two Radio Shacks in my city--both said they'd have walk-in inventory, and start selling the phones "around 11am-12pm". They also said the trade-in was for real--$99 for a 3g, $199 for a 3GS.

reservation lost

I just called the Pentagon City, VA Apple Store to confirm that they received my iPhone reservation. They looked for my name on their list by first name and found no one named Paul on the list. So my fears were realized - I haven't been getting the confirmation/reminder emails from Apple because the reservation I placed on the 15th never made it to the store. Oh well...

So the guy at the store said that there will be two lines on Thursday - one for folks who reserved a phone and one for folks who just show up to buy one. He said that they anticipate that not all of the reservations will be sold and encouraged me to join the second line.

So this means on Thursday I could go to the mall, which is opening their doors at 5:30 AM, and wait in line till the store opens early at 7 AM to maybe be lucky enough to get an iPhone 4 off the shelf.

Or I could wait until July 6th or so, when my pre-ordered iPhone is due to arrive.

Decisions, decisions.... AAAGGGHHHH!!!

a good friend work at one At&T store here in Atlanta and even when they originally said that they will get all the pre-orders and they will have some inventory for the walk-ins..he told me that they have never received a confirmation of the quantities they will be getting, they may not even cover the pre-orders completely for the first day.

I'd avoid At & T all together regardless of what they're telling you over the phone. When the 3G launched, they said the same thing - that they'd have them available on a first come first serve basis. I got there early, along with a lot of other people and was about 20th in line. Before the store opened, their manager said reiterated that they'd be selling them on a first come first served basis and he couldn't tell us how many he had. He did say there would be a good chance everyone up to my spot in line had a good chance of getting one. An hour after they opened, two people moved in line. Two people exited the store with new phones and then he came out and told the line they were sold out... but those who wanted to remain in line could pre-pay in full for one and could then pick it up as soon as it was available at the store. Not many people left the line that was now at least 100 people strong. Amazing how many people decided to stay in line and give AT&T their money knowing they wouldn't leave with a phone or even a date as to when their phone would come in.
Meanwhile, the Apple store had enough to meet the demand of everyone that waited in their long line that day. I drove to apple, waited 4 hours in line and left with a phone.

I wouldn't be surprised if AT&T were playing the same game this year. They'd rather make the sale at their store and get your money as they realize that most who start off in their line will feel some strange and illogical obligation to stay in their line after they've run out of phones.

If you didn't pre-order and want to wait in line... do it at an apple store.

I went to my AT and T store yesteday and had a plan to try for a walk in. I saw this, called the store a few minutes ago and was told that it is true, they will not be selling any iphones to people who didnt pre-order.

so who really knows
