Playing around with the new selfie camera, I have noticed that if you take photos with the normal view, not the wide angle one, the selfie camera shots 7MP photos which are obviously worse then even a lot older iPhones and nobody seems to complain about this thing, I often feel that the full 18MP wide is actually kinda too wide for a normal selfie.

Am I doing something wrong?

The older phones also give 7MP when doing portrait orientation. Only 12 when landscape.
Cant say for the 17 as I don’t have it

7mp doesn’t mean it’s worse! It’s a new sensor compared to older iPhones!
 
The closer 7MP view is noticeably worse than the wide angle 18MP one, just weird how the phone chooses to crop the sensor
