Holy crap! What was that pinching zoom thing she did at the end?!

Cringeworthy! That was truly awful. And what does 'office built in' mean exactly. Has it got a ROM chip.

Do Nokia/Microsoft actually expect people to buy tablets for MS office?

That's like... buying an iPad for iWork and nobody does that. If they want these Windows 8/RT tablets to get anywhere they need to show off their social networking capabilities such as how well they handle full Facebook, YouTube and twitter.

That's all people seem to really want at the end of the day when it comes to tablets.

HA! I love how Microsoft, et. al think that they have Apple by the balls with this keyboard thing. Like Apple forgot to include one and just haven't realized yet. The keyboard is their "killer app"

This is why they continue to be failures and make bad products... they just don't get it. There is a keyboard, guys. Apple doesn't need to include a legacy gimmick add-on to convince people to buy their product. They really have no clue why the iPad is a hit... they still want to make the same tablets from the '00's that nobody wanted to buy or use.

And if i really need a keyboard I can pack an Apple bluetooth one which is tiny and fits in my bag and provides a real keyboard experience as opposed to that thing they include which is still not the same feel as a real keyboard. I am happy with the screen keyboard... and if I need more I already have options that aren't a gimmick.

And if you need a keyboard, why not buy the MBA instead? or any ultrabook for that matter?

An external keyboard, imho, defeats the purpose of the iPad being a tablet. Its a tablet, it doesn't need a physical keyboard. If it needs a physical keyboard, it is not a tablet anymore, it should be called a laptop already.

Would we like our smartphones to include a physical keyboard as well?

There is so much wrong with this add it is pathetic. First, a tablet is not a laptop replacement. Any marketing puke that throws out that line is off my payroll.

Second, tablets are document and web viewers. It was never intended for word processing or other functions using such attention.

Third, girls that hot do not hang around coffee houses checking out guys and making pick up decisions based on the type of computer they are using.

Finally, they totally ignored the hundreds of iPad case options with keyboard embedded in them if needed. All iOS devices have Bluetooth keyboards very well supported.

Post final, there are rechargers on the market for your iPad to keep it going for days as needed when you are stationary.

This is more straw grasping Redmond!

When he claims the battery dies you can see him press the sleep button lol. Looks like he was caught with his trousers down. Moron.

That and get rid of SecureBoot for third party OS installs. At least they will move hardware that way.

that whole screen finger swipe seems like a lot of effort. and that awkward pinch to zoom. lol.

I don't understand. The main point (although it's hard to really gather one from the ad) seems to be that the Nokia tablet can be used with a keyboard. Neither tablet COMES with a keyboard, though. With the Nokia tablet, it's a $150 add-on. You could buy, with that same money, a keyboard or keyboard-case for the iPad as well.

Then there's the dig at the battery life? Really? Have they read about how great the iPad Air's battery life is? Of all the things they could have chosen, they chose one of the iPad's strengths. That's just so odd.

These ads come off to the tech-savvy as being cheesy and unconvincing. To the non-savvy, I imagine they come off as pointless, since NOTHING has been learned about the Nokia that would convince the average man to go with that over the iPad.

Just a really, really poor ad.

Is it just me or does the transcript read like John Arbuckle is the main character to a really blatant product placement?

Lovely

I love to see Microsoft/Nokia waste their money on sh** like this. It's awful

I love how the Nokia tablet setup he pulls out at the end is LARGER than the laptop he's trying to replace

Is this whole thing an Onion joke?

ipad doesn't require external keyboards. A nice optional extra for sure.

Having a keyboard kills portability and comfort somewhat.

This is one of the worst and most annoying commercials I have ever seen in my life. And really? They're going to attack the iPad battery? I've been getting 16 hours of usage on my iPad since day one.

Pure rubbish

Funny how I never saw one Apple logo in this ad. I'm guessing it's a poke at ANY other tablet rather than just Apple.

If you look closely it doesn't even look like an iPad and yet people on here are flipping out

I'm sure they got the keyboard cover thing from third party ipad developers!

$150 seems like highway robbery and all on the worst OS for a decade.

It sure would be nice to see some adverts that don't bash apple (yes they didn't say ipad but it was insinuated) for just making a good product.

I guess now Balmer is gone this tactic will end finally.

"Wait a minute, what's that? A Nokia Lumia 2520, you say?"

Rolls right off the tongue.

Amazing, huh? Except the average consumer will more easily remember iPad Air. WTH does 2520 mean anyway?

This!

But that's what happens on MR. Everything HAS TO BE a comparison to the almighty Apple product...

(Yes, the video was stupid...)

What is wrong with Microsoft's branding on the tablet level entirely? I knew Windows 8 would be cause a rife with user, but the start button is still to be had, and they still have the market for desktops. But, on the mobile level... their marketing campaigns are ridiculously weak.

They seriously have no strategy at times... like where does this campaign go? Or is it just a one time hitter (aka one time bust)?

Microsoft's marketing is hysterically atrocious!

This makes sense strategically. I've always said that text input is the missing link on the iPad. Apple never figured that out. On the other hand, I'm not sure that Nokia or Microsoft have either.

The original Mac had the mouse, which changed the game. The iPod had the scrollwheel, which made it tenable to navigate thousands of songs. The iPhone had the touch screen, and wasn't expected to be used for a lot of text-input so an on-screen keyboard sufficed (although I think Android may have surpassed Apple with this in the ability to switch out keyboards).

If the iPad is meant to be a laptop replacement, it fails with regard to text-input. There was no big gain in input like each of Apple's previous devices had (mouse, scrollwheel, touch screen).

If I were Apple, this is something I would focus on. There might be a solution. Not that I know what it is. But Apple has a lot of resources to think about these things. Microsoft at least did something, with the keyboard case. If Apple sold a first-party equivalent, I think it would be quite popular.

I already expected to read all the negativity on this forum - surprise surprise :D

However, Nokia actually makes nice phones. Their biggest downfall is that they run Windows RT. If it ran Android I would consider looking at it.

As most of you on MacRumors know, people buy the experience, not just the specs/piece of hardware. I would only consider an RT tablet for business. There's nothing FUN about RT. It's clunky on a tablet - again, unless it's used for business purposes on a business network with all the security/control/advanced features it provides. At work, for taking notes, presentations and other stuff I'd get one.

P.S. The ad is definitely bad :p
