I'm sure they got the keyboard cover thing from third party ipad developers!

$150 seems like highway robbery and all on the worst OS for a decade.

It sure would be nice to see some adverts that don't bash apple (yes they didn't say ipad but it was insinuated) for just making a good product.

I guess now Balmer is gone this tactic will end finally.

What difference does it honestly make where they got the jay board cover idea? Microsoft does make the best keyboard cover in the market. If Nokia's is similar, it will also be better than anything I've seen on iPad. Is it $150 better? I personally don't think so.

And how was iPad insinuated at all? You realize there are literally hundreds of tablets on the market? All with terrible battery life? Low resolutions? No keyboard options whatsoever? The only reason Anyone is saying anything here is because the wonderful writers here at MR decided to give this article a title to get readers fired up. They obviously succeeded.

All that said, I wouldn't look at this tablet over an iPad. Te only tablet that MIGHT replace an iPad for me would be a surface pro 2, since it's a real contender for laptop replacement. But for those who aren't looking specifically at an iPad for thee next tablet I don't see why this couldn't be at the top of the list.

at least the MS commercials make salient points regarding price, multi-tasking and ecosystem (granted a Windows ecosystem).

This ad misses all the obvious targets and just makes up its own fictional ones. Since it can't truly go after battery life, it claims to have the "fastest recharge time". Since it can't go after the whole ecosystem, it just focuses on Office. Since it can't go after the iPad keyboard, it just shows this idiot having difficulty typing on the screen. Meanwhile, they're selling a multitouch device and this fool has been typing on a small screen smartphone for years. What happened to his hand-eye coordination suddenly?

In the end it's about the guy getting a tablet that the girl he wants to impress also has. It's no different than buying the iPad to impress all his friends like he did in the beginning.

I think i just put more thought into this commercial than the creators did.

How did you miss the comparison to the iPad? They basically rolled their eyes saying it's thinner than a pencil, it's been to space, etc.

Bad commercial, but it was insulting the iPad.

Would never buy Android/Google ANYTHING out of principle. :p

But I gotta say, the openness of the Windows based tablets over the claustrophobic, controlled, funnel everything thru iTunes, no I/O ports iPad….I find appealing.

This is why competition is good….c'mon Apple….OPEN IT UP!!!

And if you need a keyboard, why not buy the MBA instead? or any ultrabook for that matter?

An external keyboard, imho, defeats the purpose of the iPad being a tablet. Its a tablet, it doesn't need a physical keyboard. If it needs a physical keyboard, it is not a tablet anymore, it should be called a laptop already.

Would we like our smartphones to include a physical keyboard as well?

At least the commercial is targeting the right people...Old school Windows users afraid to enter the age of multi-touch without keyboard training wheels. That is what MS is always about-porting over as many old legacy users as possible to cash in. For a software company, they have zero vision of the progress and the future.

This is the absolute last tablet I could ever think of buying. If I couldn't get an iPad, there's Android! Windows on a tablet is disgusting.

"Wait a minute, what's that? A Nokia Lumia 2520, you say?" Yeah, it goes great with my PC with an EVGA GTX 680Ti Boost For the Win Edition.

Windows RT is not open! I almost bought the Surface when it came out, but then found out you can't side-load apps. You can only install anything on your tablet that you buy in their app store.

Also, if memory serves, even if I have a developer certificate on my machine it would be strictly controlled and THEY have the ability to uninstall my own apps. No thanks.

The only open OS out there is the one you wouldn't buy: Android.

Nokia Lumia 2520 Man: A Love Story

He looked at her in class.
He gazed at her in college.
He sat near her in coffee shops.
He tried the Lynx (Axe) deodorants.
He tried Old Spice.
He tried the designer sportswear.
He tried the designer suits.
He bought the expensive sports cars.
He bought various laptops.
He bought various tablets.

Finally, he simply tried talking to her. They've been married now for 5 years and have their second child on the way.

The ad sends a subliminal message that the iPad guy will be "he and his hand" tonight as Pink' s song says because having a Lumia is cooler and attracts more v@g!n4.

Unfortunately being so honest and hating this kind of subliminal consumerism sexist ads (see for example Samsung's ad for the curved screens and you' ll see what I mean) will never let me get hired by a creative agency.

This advert makes no sense.

Yeah it does.
1. Guy uses iPad and thinks it's cool.
2. He uses iPad and begins to get annoyed.
3. He is embarrassed with iPad/MBP combo.
4. He sees the Nokia Lumia 2520 and thinks it's better.

But it's not very realistic. If I had one of those things, I'd probably lose friends.

If the iPad is meant to be a laptop replacement, it fails with regard to text-input.

I don't think the iPad was supposed to be a laptop replacement. I recall Steve Jobs saying it fits in between a smartphone and a laptop.

That said... many people do use an iPad in situations where they would normally use their laptop. I know plenty of people who used a laptop for email... and now they use their iPad instead. They still have their laptop for Quickbooks and other traditional applications... but now the iPad is where they spend 80% of their day. Sure... typing on glass isn't great... but it beats lugging around a heavy laptop. It's a tradeoff.

The laptop replacement situation is funny. Yes... you can get laptop and tablet functionality in one device.... but you end up with a tiny laptop.

I'm interested in the idea of full PC devices like the Surface Pro. Windows when you need it... light tablet when you don't. But it all falls apart with the 10" screen.

I'd rather have two devices suited for the type of work I will be doing. A 14" or 15" laptop... and something like an iPad Mini for tablet duties.

Personally.... I think it's difficult to replace something with another thing that is much smaller or has a different form factor.

Sometimes convergence doesn't work.

"I do love this thing. It's still light and you never notice it in your laptop bag."

Nokia lost all credibility (assuming they had gained any) after dropping this line. If you love it and you don't notice it, then why would you trade it? Completely makes no sense.

This commercial may make an ounce of sense if it wasn't advertising Windows RT. You can be as productive with iPad + keyboard as any Windows RT device. Windows 8 may be a different story, but I'd STILL prefer an 11" MBA and iPad combo. OS X when you need it, the web in your hands when you don't. Two is better than one.

I love it. Two things stood out to me from the commercial and the website for this thing (which most mentioned already):

(i) The website indicates the following for this device: "Keys and Input: Touch" (The commercial shows a keyboard so nokia should sell it with one)

(ii) The commercial mentions the battery dying on the iPad, but the screen flashes "faster charging battery" (This thing better hold a charge better than the iPad).

Were they really your friends to begin with, then? :p
