Some wallets have coin pockets. Put it in there.
Have you actually tried it? I have,..and it still leaves an awkward bump. Not good for your back either, if you keep it in your back pocket and either sit on a chair or drive with it.

Who has a wallet nowadays...🤔
I do. Need a place to put all those debit card receipts.

I use a wallet. In the U.S., many states require one to carry a drivers license or state ID. along with insurance card. On top of that, you have medical insurance, credit cards, money etc.
There's also the concealed carry card, firearm legal defense card, a small pad of post-its, the receipts from my recent purchases.

No cash, of course. You never know how filthy that stuff is!
I 3D printed one of these for I think less than a dollar. Works like a charm!
You 3D printed a Latte for yourself? Damn, technology really is moving fast!
Not only that, people put them in their cars. When I go out carjacking, it lets the cops stalk me. This is a violation of my 5th Amendment rights!
The cops ain't the only ones stalking you. Were you aware that your carjacking last Thursday was a mobster's car? Yeah, pay no attention to that black SUV in your rear view...
We don't need a tracker on our wallets in the South. We have chains.

Shoulda seen the look on pickpocket's face. He ain't purdy no mo', no suh.
And the best part is, if it snows, you have enough chain to put it on your drive wheels and get home from the pig calling contest!

I don't carry my phone with me everywhere.
Yeah, mine doesn't go into the shower with me. Now that I think of it, my CC piece is more traveled, better behaved, and therefore goes more places than my phone!

If the phone would stop with all those car extended warranty calls, I might take her out more often! My gun doesn't interrupt any conversations, vibrate during romantical times, or incessantly remind me that I got another fresh batch of spam emails!

Working adults that drive cars, buy groceries, have various ID's required for various worldly responsibilities? ;)
Now...who has $Cash$ nowadays? Right there with you.

Also...go go Flipside! RFID shielding, if a bit thick to carry around in a pocket.
Oh, that right there is a "responsibilityist" attitude.

Good on ya!

Maybe it will finally get everyone to start backing up their phones?

And, you shouldn't have to hand the cop anything. Have you used contactless payment? Tap on his iPad, your NFC ID will bring up your DMV and any other relevant records.
Well, they always seem to want license, registration, insurance, and state law here says I have to present my CWP too. And the cop might even want to unload that while we talk.

You missed the point. If they implement it the way they should - one tap and all of that will show up (as well as if you have a record, outstanding warrants, etc).

Heh...maybe the airtag in the car stereo will also tell him if it's stolen. :D

I took the metal back off mine, and used a 2025 battery, and got the thickness down to 6mm from 9mm. slipped it between my Apple Card and my other metal card, and its great.
Airtag 2 will be 1/2 the thickness I'm sure. there is a LOT of air in the current curved design.

Seems like a lot of dead space. Seems as if it could be shifted to one side with room for some folded emergency bills, etc.

They already have that. The QR code on your license or the bar code (or optically readable letters and numbers) on the plate itself are readable by the patrol car's camera. And that's all hooked up.

The cop has all of that stuff already up on his screen by the time your car has come to a stop. He knows who you are, who you're married to, where you lay your head down at night, and whether you've been bad or good.

I had an inexpensive but great Alpine head unit stolen out of a car back around 88 or 89. Worst feeling ever, seeing that hole in the dashboard.

Before that day, I wouldn't have ever thought that capital punishment was appropriate for any reason. Since then, however; crime (and crime against me) have made me into the one guy you don't want on your jury if you've been accused of any crime and the evidence makes you look more guilty than innocent.

Don't steal my stuff! 😈
Literally no one is doing that. Don’t make things up.
Your doubt is precisely why EVERYBODY who is the victim of an attempted rape, assassination, kidnapping, or attempted murder expresses such genuine shock and surprise that somebody might want to hurt them.

"I had no idea that my wife was spiking my beer with antifreeze and getting ready to run away with my best friend!"

"I was SHOCKED that my husband was having three affairs and has 2 kids from other women. It's even more surprising that he's been adding rat poison to my morning oatmeal and one day, he tried to run me down while I was out jogging!"

"My brother and his wife stole all our life's savings, burned down our house, and left the country for Bali! We had no idea he could be such a dirtbag!"

Just today I saw an article about a florist who had put a remote camera into a floral arrangement so that he could spy on the lady who received the flowers. Ladies, don't put the flowers in the bedroom!

What difference does it make if my phone is backed up, but I can’t start my car to drive home where I won’t be able to unlock the front door to get my physical Apple Card (you did request one, didn’t you?) to go buy a new phone.

As charming as that fantasy is, it’s still just a fantasy. You’ll never get every podunk, hillbilly PD to spend the money.

You wouldn't hand it to the cop - you would show it to them, and presumably they'd scan it.

It's also entirely possible to hand it over in locked wallet mode. They can look at your ID, see the last four of some of your credit cards, but that's it.
Does not matter if it is in some super fancy specialized locked mode. Please explain why once it is out of your hands you are 100% guaranteed to get it back from the nice officer every single time.

Haha. Apple Card's never been offered in Canada, so, no. :D

And, yes, all of the physical cards (including Apple's need to go away).

Having your iPhone and Apple Watch on you means you have a backup if one of them gets smashed. They could build cheap backup devices as well - say, about the size of an AirTag? Magnetically clipped to the inside of a wheel well in the event that you're without another NFC device. Paranoid? Put Touch ID on the top of it.

And as for the hillbilly PD - yeah, there's still lots of places "out in the sticks" that don't even support contactless payment. Always going to be slow adopters. Just don't live there. :D

The registered owner is not necessarily the person behind the wheel and the cop is even less informed if the vehicle is registered to an LLC like several friends have done.

I already have a cheap backup. It’s called a wallet, because even though I live in a dense urban area the closest supermarket to me does not take contactless payments despite being owned by a major chain. Chip, swipe or cash only.

I like to take road trips. The interesting places are far apart. Guess what’s in between.

Could you provide a photo of that - I would be interested in that operation as well (just don't want to solder around)

Who gave you permission to say that? I don't think your statement is on the approved thought list. Have you considered reporting for reconditioning? (Seriously, if something bad happens, the entire company can be shut down until I answer the phone and fix the problem. That is largely why I have a better theater at home than the local cinema does.)
I am crazy for thinking independently and going against the beehive mentality. I am sure someone has already reported me to the proper authorities. :D It's just a matter of time before they come get me.

This feels like the wrong approach to me. It doesn’t address the thickness of the AirTag and will just add additional bulk to the wallet.

If they absolutely must ship a way to allow an AirTag in a wallet, I think the better approach is a slightly wider wallet (by about an inch) where there’s a dedicated space for an AirTag to sit next to, not on top of, the credit cards. That way the thickness of the wallet can be kept way down as you don’t stack cards on top of an already large AirTag.

The wallet would still be large due to the extra width, but there’s already “passport” style wallet that have that extra width to support carrying passports which need more space than a credit card needs. I think a flatter but longer wallets going to be far more manageable and comfortable to use though.

Heh...looking forward to the day the phrase "vote with your wallet" actually disappears. :D

But, in this case, that's what it takes. Everywhere you go, make a fuss that they don't support contactless payments. Eventually they get so tired of hearing it, they update their credit card machine (or actually getting around to enabling it). Almost all terminals sold in the last 10 years already support it. Some have left it disabled as they're afraid of people using stolen cards and the charges being disallowed by the credit card companies. The liability is still with the credit card companies for that gap, btw.

Covid helped a lot of businesses up here finally get the stick out of their a**.

I actually DO leave my wallet at home for the most part. Leave my license in my SUV. Only grab the wallet if I know I'm going to need cash or an appointment that may need multiple sources of ID.

Pay for everything with my Apple Watch.

people are using these things to stalk women by slipping them in a purse or hidden in a car then following them home. Not cool Sometimes Technology is not a blessing.
So my wife left home with my set of car keys, with the AirTag that's registered to me, and within an hour she got a notice that an AirTag belonging to me was with her. Same happened to my friend when he drove his wife's car to get pizza in town.
