OMG GUYS!!

The thread starter joined MacRumor THIS MONTH and posted this thread for the sole purpose of starting a conversation on "skin," so on his first reply he could subtly advertised you that link!!!

How do I know? I can smell a viral marketing tactic a mile away, because I know how they work. I even know a person whose job is going to different disease support-group forums to fake post on medical tourism (surgery in third world country where they charge dirt cheap prices).

Really tho?

I can't post a link without some peeon thinking that, and yeah I just joined because I just bought a mac and i think its going pretty good for my first thread here.

I have mine now. Macbook pro mid 2012. I got the antiglare screen. I like the silver boarder better than the glossy black. Weight is not a problem. I got the 2.6ghz core i7 and it's just really fast. It takes about 40 seconds to boot into os x when turning it on. I have a 750GB 7200rpm drive. It has 8GB of RAM as well.

I have parallels installed with windows 7 ultimate N and installing 78 updates. it did get a little hot - but I mean nothing major. It's not like I had to take my hand away. I guess its more warm than hot but it might bother some people I guess.

I'm not sure if skins will fit or not. I can only imagine that would assist in heating up your laptop more though.

Overall I love my real macbook pro. :D

I haven't seen alot of reviews for this, I ordered the 15" Retina at first, when everyone did, and cancelled my order and got the new pro with the 8gb and Hi Res upgrade. But i want to know more about if the old skins will fit it, I haven't seen any 2012 skins so idk, would a bezel skin look better because it doesn't have a black one like the glossy display?

I just really want to hear more about it, its going to be my first Macbook, but i have experience with Mac Pros and iMacs.

Which Samsung 830 is really compatible?

Does anyone know EXACTLY which model is compatible with the latest 15" NON RETINA MBP. (4gb ram; 500gb hdd model)

I know the Samsung 830 256GB (SATAIII) is the SSD I plan on buying, but there are differences in the model #s.
I want the best deal but I dont want to accidentally order an incompatible one.

Here are the options Im talking about:
MZ-7PC256B/WW
MZ-7PC256N/AM
MZ-7PC256D/AM
MZ-7PC256Z

EDIT:
Also - Whats this about the FW upgrade? Only thru Windows? Is it even necessary?
And, should I enable TRIM or leave it standard?
What is the difference here??
And also, is it worth getting the drive with the "kit" as well as with Norton Ghost?

How is the 7200rpm in terms of heat, noise and vibrations? These are the kind of things I read about those 7200rpm's in MBP's.

Non-existent. I have no issues. No heat. No vibrations. No Noise. Bottom is a little warm but nothing unusual.

While in windows and installing updates the top and bottom got warm but I also had parallels set for performance mode instead of energy saver so it was using the discrete graphics card. It was quiet tho while it got warm. I can't hear the fans at all.

This is the most amazing laptop I've ever owned. I've had about 5 laptops. This is my 6th one. I'm including my current work laptop as my 5th one.

The anti-glare screen is just amazing. I just can't even begin to explain or get people to understand how awesome this thing is.

It takes about 30 seconds to boot into os x lion on my 7200 rpm drive. I can only assume if you pop in a SSD it would take 3 seconds. Apps come up almost instantly. Some apps take a second or two longer. It might help that I got the 2.6ghz core i7 model. I dunno I've never loved a laptop before but this thing is well worth the money.

Non Retina user here. Ordered the 15" 2.6GHz, hi-res antiglare. The price is about the same as the rmbp but I really like the idea of adding more memory and a bigger ssd when prices come down farther. I also need an Ethernet port for work which ruled out the retina.

Thats the one I got. You'll Love it!

I didn't see the bottom where you asked a question. The anti-glare is easily worth 200 dollars and we paid only an extra 100. The screen is vibrant, no glare, and I can stare at the screen all day long without any eyestrain. The silver border also looks a lot sharper than the glossy black border

That's the exact config that I ordered! How do you like the antiglare screen? I've not seen one yet.

I just bought a non-retina MacBook Pro today. I got the 15-inch 2.6 GHz with 8GB ram, 750GB hard drive and GeForce 650M 1GB graphics.

I am using it in clam-shell mode, connected to a 23-inch 1920x1080 monitor via DVI/MiniDisplay Port. This computer is a beast. As an example, while I am typing this, I am also logged into World of Warcraft, I have used the pre-set HIGH settings at 1920x1080 and I am currently at 60FPS in Stormwind. My CPU temperature is 140F, Graphics Processor is 156F. It has been at this temperature consistently.

The bottom does get hot. Not as hot as my 2008 MacBook Pro that was just put out to pasture today, but I still wouldn't want to game with this on my lap.

Glad to see I am not the only one disappointed about the lack of coverage on the non-retina MBP.

Looking at this one also with the Hr/AG display and 7200rpm drive.

Does anyone know for certain if Optibay is compatible with the new MBP. I have not seen anything to suggest either way.

In addition is the Samsung 830 the recommended SSD UPGRADE for MBP?

Optibay website says it works in a big red letter graphic:)

Do you have the base model with 512 MB Vram or the highend version with 1024MB vram?
You already tried gaming or anything on the low end version?
Also looking forward to buy the cMBP in the low end version. Wanna use it 4-5 years minimum and i am a bit worried that the 512mb vram could become to a bottle neck.
Now i am using a macbook white mid 2007. Was still enough for playing a little bit. Games like WoW are still working, slow and with bad settings but thats ok.
So i dont need high end grafics but i still wanna be happy with the book in 4-5 years. The macbook white also made it 5 years...

Are you all using the antiglare screen? I prefer the black edge of the glossy one and saw some youtube videos where you could see that the colors are so much stronger on the glossy one.
When i had a look at both at a shop i was impressed about the antiglare because there where no reflections...

Dont know which one to take

I'm very happy with my 2008 MBP. But for someone who is going to use this laptop for 4-5years, I would recommend base rMBP with 16 GB RAM.

There are certain things like Graphics memory, Screen Resolution and Apple in-built SSD (like rMBP and Air) that cannot be changed but will make your non-retina MBP obsolete in 3-4 years.
Apple has already taken steps to move to very high resolution content and Windows will follow the same trend as always. Then people will low resolution screen will have to update. Non-retina MBP 2nd hand value would sky dive.

When it comes to SSD, even though u install third-party or even apple SSD, some OS X features wouldn't work in non-retina MBP. They have already started this with PowerNap and most of you have seen what they are doing with IOS 6 by not allowing certain features for previous gene IOS devices. (Even though, those devices can handle them)

So think twice before you make a long term decision, coz even I don't c any problem with non-retina MBP for today but that doesn't mean its gonna stay that way for long.

Nice thread:)

As a newbie to this site and about to buy my first MacBook Pro, I did wonder if this site should be renamed MacRetinaRumors!!

Im trying not to get too caught up in the Retina fuss, the standard 15" MacBooks will be more than good enough for me.

By the way, do the 2.3 4GB & 2.6 8GB Quad Core MacBook Pro's that appear on the apple store all have the latest Ivy Bridge chips? Or are we waiting for those to appear?

Welcome aboard:) and yes the new non-retina's are also packing the new Ivy Bridge chips. Can't wait for mine to arrive next week hoping its going to last me as long as my old one.

I picked up the 2.6 with the 1GB GPU at Best Buy the other night. Currently cloning the drive to a Crucial M4 right now. I am very happy with the laptop. Going to be more happy in about 30 minutes once I have the SSD installed.

Are the new non-retinas not in stock everywhere yet?

Thanks Image

I don't know, but i'm sure you could probably walk into any apple store in the UK and walk out with a shiny new classic MBP. Its only the retina models that seem to have long shipping delays over here.

I only ordered mine last week but it was also a BTO. I upgraded the screen to an anti glare 1680 x 1050.

Judging from the videos on YouTube on swapping disks none of the extra kit is needed to physically replace it, so the basic kit MZ-7PC256B/WW will do and that's what I ordered myself.

I already once migrated to a 830 and I found the Ghost software quite limited. I tried a few different options and finally settled on Macrium Reflect Free which is free, leaner, more powerful and easier to use. The name sounds macish but it's actually Windows only.

I just got mine in today, used it to check out the threads bout all the problems people with the retina displays are having.

Need more time and ill update

I just joined and ordered the cMBP and very excited. Still unsure of what skin or case to order for it.
