It's still amazes me that people don't protect there phones with a good case like an Otterbox defender . If you had used an Otterbox there would be no need for this thread:D

Like I said I had a case on the way "Gumdrop Drop Tech Series", which should be here this week. I never drop my "toys". I guess theres a first for everything...

Why do people think they're entitled to a new phone after they've dropped it?

Unless you have insurance or Apple Care, you aren't entitled to jack.

That doesn't look nearly as bad as I expected it to look based on your description. I'd probably just apply a sharpie and then stick it in a case.

Just got off the phone with Square trade they said file a claim and they will take care of it for me!! I have something called "Accidental Handling", basically dropping your phone.
Im going to call my credit card company as well. Just to see what other option I may have :)

I was actually going to do that when I got home from work...lol

Where did you see me write I was entitled to a new phone? I just wanted to know my options since I did purchase insurance for it

Why do people not read even the OP before commenting?

That's what insurance is for (which he has). Phone cases just feel awkward in my hand and the touch screen protectors ruin the touch screen experience for me.

I prefer AC+ though for accidental protection, walk into an Apple store and walk out with a replacement.

A sharpie and a case. Just like new! Wait until you really break it to collect on the insurance. :)

Just curious with companies like SquareTrade. Since this phone just came out do they provide a new one, fix it, or find some refurbs somewhere (all those Apple Store exchanges?).
Wondering how places other than Apple or carrier retail stores handle just released items.

Sorry :( I dropped my 4S getting out of my car once and had a bit of chipped glass. Looks as though your case might cover this up? If so, you might want to hold off on your insurance claim if you are not covered by your credit card if it requires paying a deductible or if you have a limit on how many claims you could make.

Why is everyone being so hard on the OP? It is really upsetting to scratch up your brand new phone. A lot of us ordered cases and then our phones arrived before the cases. I still have not received the case I ordered on 9-14! I ordered a second one when my phone arrived but I still had two days of nakedness.

They can fix it, try to fix it, allow you to pay at the apple store and send you money back towards the replacement, etc... Pretty much all bases covered.

lucky you. mine got stolen this weekend so I am totally without phone until I can buy an (expensive) replacement :(

Not fraud, OP'd still be able to add APP+ since the phone (in theory) still works just fine. Why would Apple be against making an additional $150 for less than 15 minutes worth of work?

If apple care plus is not purchased with the phone, you have 30 days to add it. however, to add it, you have to make a genius appt for them to inspect it before it is sold to you. It is to protect against things just like this where you decline the ins but try to add it after damage was done.

it would not hurt to try, you may get lucky and they replace it out of the goodness of thier heart. however, they dont do that as much as they used to now that they have AP+. they did it more when they had no accidental coverage to offer.

Usually when people buy insurance they fully anticipate situations like this and already know what their options are. I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish with your OP, but if you merely want to avoid going through insurance then file a claim through your credit card company if it offers the 90-day accidental damage protection.

Because if you don't buy apple care+ at the time of purchasing your phone you have to go back to have a genius check your phone to make sure it quailifies for app+

It wouldn't hurt to try because they're not going to mind that the phone has a scratch. They'll still add AppleCare+ if it's within 30 days and the phone still looks "good".
