I think my... "issue", if I can even call it that, is people tend to make a decision of the quality of a product based on a 30 second first impression. Not saying you do this, by the way, but often times the responses are "well I held my friend's cousin's mother's boyfriend's device and it was terrible". For those that are willing to cast something aside that quickly, I would say there is likely some sort of bias going on (by the way I think most people who use the term brainwashing would be better off using the word bias). I have never seen a device that is so terrible that it is simple unusable after a 30 second handling. There comes a point where there is actual opinion, and then there is "I refuse to use anything that isn't Apple". I know people on both sides of the fence. Interestingly, it is my die-hard Android friend who is the tougher of the two groups to reason with. He won't use iPhone BECAUSE it is Apple. Decisions like that are so illogical to me.

I agree, a 30 second first impression is not enough for a true evaluation of a device. And I also agree that either side of the fence is not a good place to be when refusing to use another device simply because it is Apple or not Apple.

I am likely to request a Nexus for my work phone soon. I currently have an old Blackberry that sits in a drawer and is forwarded to my personal iPhone. But I am thinking of turning it in for a Nexus. I don't think Android devices like the Nexus or the S3 are horrible or unusable. I just don't prefer them for my personal device. I don't prefer Apple devices because they are Apple. I prefer them because they balance my need for size, design, battery life, apps, work flow and more better than other devices do in my opinion. When that changes, I will have no problem changing. However, I am not a fan of the much larger screens. That is just my choice. And I have no problem with the glass design of the 4s. I carry my 4s naked with no problems.

I have one as a work phone, and have been happy with it. It's a tough call, though. If you didn't like the feel of the SGSIII, I am not sure the GNex will be an improvement for you. Rather, I am sure it won't be.

I've handled them both, so I know what to expect
I am just willing to give it a try to see how Android functions for me and my work flow rather than taking everyone else's word for it
As far as the look and feel, I would be giving it a much more extended trial

I don't see me relinquishing my iPhone any time soon
But I am not 'blinded' and 'brainwashed' to the point that I don't consider options

Plus, as a work phone, I would use tethering data on the company's dime and not my own :)

My other issue is, our company uses Sprint :(

After 2 years with my iphone 4 and knowing that the next one will essentially look the same im just bored now. The fear of starting another contract is keeping me from getting the sgiii

What did you drink? Creakiness and Galaxy S III? I will accept every argument about GSIII but this one. It is one of the most rigid phones I have ever held. This is just a lie. Go hold one and make it creak please.

Isn't it funny how when we "don't accept an argument" it's just blind Apple fanboyism, but it's perfectly okay for someone rabidly defending Android products to refuse to accept an argument?

If your S3 doesn't feel flimsy, great. The half-dozen I've had to configure to use our corporate e-mail for staff members at work felt pretty cheap. And incidentally, about a third of those so far switched back to their iPhones pretty rapidly, with a couple more still considering it.

Also, as mentioned earlier:

Nokia-Lumia-900.jpg

THIS is good design. Nokia used to make great phones, then they got clunky and cheap. They found their stride again with the Lumia series in terms of physical design, fit and finish. THIS is a phone made of plastic that I enjoy holding in my hands.

My beef with them now is the OS. I would use it if I was forced to, but I wouldn't be happy about it.

It would be also be nice if they fixed that nasty screen burn-in issue I keep seeing with practically every Windows Phone I look at:

But if you are blinded by Apple how do you know you are not blinded by Apple. People who are brainwashed don't know they're brainwashed. :roll eyes:

The same argument can be used in reverse. I think you're so invested in the phone choice you made that you need to disparage others who disagree with you in order to stay convinced that the choice you made was the right one. Even magnifying nearly insignificant differences. To whit:

I think your one of those people that thinks lighter weight "feels cheap." Your brain is having a hard time understanding how something bigger than the 3Gs feels similar in weight (SGS3 133 Grams, 3GS 135 Grams). Get over it. Heavier doesn't mean better built. The 4S is too heavy as a mobile device, especially for one as small as it is. Mobile devices need to be light. This is just logical.

The iPhone 4S is 140 grams, 7 grams "heavier" than the SGS3.

Take seven paperclips and put them in the palm of your hand. That is about 7 grams. So you're telling me that that nearly imperceptible difference in mass is making the iPhone 4S "too heavy."

Riiiight.

(P.S. You could also place in your hand a Samsung Galaxy S3 AND 7 paperclips to get the exact weight of an iPhone 4S, but that's not something I recommend... metal can scratch plastic.)

Here's the problem with your argument. The The 4S with it's pitiful small size shouldn't even be heavier PERIOD. So now you take 133 Grams of the S3 and spread it over the larger size of the S3, add the thinness of the S3 and you got a phone that FEELS MUCH lighter than the 4S. Now look at the 4S that has it's 140 Grams pin pointed on much smaller surface area and is also thicker. Now you have a device that FEELS MUCH heavier. Everyone I know that has a 4S, and has held my S3, has said Wow this thing is light. I have never heard anyone call the 4S light. The 4S isn't heay, but It is heavy as a MOBILE device. If you hold a 4S and a S3 in your hands/pockets and cannot tell the difference in weight while walking around or talking on it, then...

BTW, make sure you don't put those paper clips on your 4S, glass scratches. And don't drop it, as glass also SHATTERS.

Don't forget Sony. Their hardware is usually behind and so is software (still releasing GB phones) but their design is one of the best IMO.

I agree, I think Sony is doing some great design work lately.

The iON has very clean lines, aluminum construction and a good layout of controls. It feels great in the hand too.

When iON is next to the GS3 the attractive design stands out quickly. The GS3 just looks cheap, and bloated. It is not sleek to the eyes to at all.

And the Xperia GX is also quite striking.

I have got to admit that I was shocked by the difference in weight when pointed out by scared poet above, that I picked up my 4S and tested it against my S3, the weight difference did seem considerable, so much so, that I googled both phones specs, the difference is, as stated above, about 7 grams, it just doesn't feel like it (to me) but the figures are correct.

There seems to be negativity on both sides of the fence here, it shouldn't be that way, they are both superb phones, top of their respective trees (IMHO) while one phone works better for some the other works better for other patrons. This competition is great for us consumers, it forces the big companies (Apple, Samsung et al) to innovate, without this competition we would still be using mundane phones.

In your opinion. My opinion differs.

You make some very good points that are somewhat diluted by your undisguised hatred of Samsung products, Shame really.

It has nothing to do with "hate". Bad design is bad design. Samsung is capable of putting out a phone with a good design like. Usually they don't though.

The Nexus S is slick design. As soon as I saw it, I was impressed two years ago. Even today, take that same design, make it unibody, give it beefier specs and give it a qHD AMOLED+ screen, and you'd have a winner. It's aged like a BMW, not Kia.
google-nexus-s.jpg

The GNEX was a step backwards to my eyes. For whatever reason it just doesn't look or "feel" as clean as the Nexus S. The plastics feel cheaper as well. If it was unibody polycarbonate it would make a huge difference.

The there is the GSIII which is freaking horrid. The back is slick and devoid of details. It's just lazy. It's very wide an fat, not sleek at all. The faux metal band is just tacky, and serves no purpose and detracts from the phones rigidity. The camera layout sucks, and the non-recessed home button just looks out of place.

The whole design just fails. I'm not talking android, or brands; I am talking purely design, and from a design perspective the GSIII is a freak show.

You must really hate the iPhone 3GS design then, I don't, I think it is probably the best looking iPhone to date, if anything, I think that Samsung copied some design cues from it. (Slightly more rounded to compensate for the larger size but basically the same design). Funny, I thought you would love all things Apple.

No I am not a huge fan of the 3GS either, but it was designed 2008, and certainly was a cut above other phones released at the time. Would I ever buy a 3G or 3GS, nope.

The 4/4S easily blows past it when it comes to design. It was the first design that really made me want an iPhone.

OP, it's great you're so happy with your choice. :) I think a lot of owners of Apple products feel the same way - the longer they use the device, the more their choice is confirmed. It's a sign of quality IMO.

One of Apple's strong points has always been design (that, and the fact that the devices work so seamlessly together).

I personally don't think the light Samsung phones feel cheap - I actually think the iPhone feels very heavy, and prefer lighter phones. It boils down to personal preference. Even though I don't use an iPhone myself at this point, I do admire the design, and it seems to me that the design from an aesthetic point of view has only improved with each new model. That doesn't stop me from enjoying the design of other phones though. ;)

Here's the problem with your argument. The The 4S with it's pitiful small size

And I'll stop you right there, because that's another thing: I have big hands, but the SGS3 seems freakishly big to me.

Acceptable sizes are relative. If you want a 4.8 inch near-tablet next to your ear, good on you. Me? I have no desires for that, nor do I need to compensate for anything. Just sayin'.

BTW, make sure you don't put those paper clips on your 4S, glass scratches.

If the paperclips were made from diamond, you're probably right.

And don't drop it, as glass also SHATTERS.

Yes, indeed it does, as SGS3 owners should know better than iPhone users, it seems.

gs3break.jpg

And that's not me saying it, it's an independent company tasked with insuring users of both devices, and many others.

i love the iphone 4 and iphone 4s design but I dont like how the metal band around the side gets all scruffed up easily just by wearing a case.

Of course you'll stop right there, as you have nothing else to say for the weight of the 4S. Glad to see you stopped while you were behind in logic.

As for your pathetic attempt to show the cracked screen of SGS3, there a good number more cracked 4S screens. Oh wait...make that screens and backs. As we both know, that lovely glass on the back is a lot more prone to being shattered than the polycarbonate backing of the SGS3. Got any shattered pics of that? Yeah...didn't think so. Oh I won't bother to spam you with the endless cracked screens and backs of the 4 and 4S. Of all people, you would think someone with an iPhone would be the last to throw up a pic of a cracked screen of any other device. Glass houses my friend...glass houses.... literally.

BTW, the iPhone fails every drop test, just like in these tests. Funny how you left that out. Oh did you ever see the same company put up the S2 with the 4S. What were the results? Did you hate your 4S after you saw the results of that test? Did the results of the S2 vs 4S drop test make you feel negative in any way towards your precious 4S? Just curious as you seem to give that independent company so much weight when they did the GS3 drop test. I'll be waiting for your answer.

man you are comparing a 4WD Subaru to a Ferrari.

everyone knows the iPhone is fragile and should be handled with care. hence why so many decide to purchase rubber protection.

in the same way everyone knows you cannot drive a Ferrari off road as it will fall apart; but you can get away with it in a Subaru.

I knew the moment i bought it i needed to be extra careful with it and its OK, because i concluded that for me, the benefit of using such a sleek phone outweighed the potential risks. i don't put ugly protection in it the same way i wouldn't hang tires around a Ferrari to prevent damage to its paint.

ironically enough, though, many and myself included, find the iPhone to be more solid than the S3 when held. its probably the finish and the materials. but no one will deny that the S3 can sustain more damage.

Things made of finer materials tend to like forceful impacts less.

This is news?

A Fabergé egg would like being dropped less than a plastic Easter egg, but no one would accuse the easter egg of having better materials or design.

WOW you really are clueless. More clueless than anyone on this thread.
If you for one second think that comparing the S3 to a 4S is in any way similar to comparing a Subaru to a Ferrari, you are so far in the Apple distortion field you cannot be helped.
First off, Subaru and Ferrari are not even in the same class or market. The S3 and 4S are in exactly the same market and are direct competitors. All buyers of the S3 can easily buy a 4S and vice versa. The same cannot be said for all buyers of a Subaru. The Subaru is a mass production vehicle, the Ferrari is not. The S3 and 4S are both mass produced smartphones. I could go on forever, but I'm guessing it would be pointless considering you actually made the Ferrari/Subaru comparison to begin with. Wow, just Wow.
You gotta wonder how many iPhone users think they have a Ferrari to everyone else's Subaru. And some people say they're not blinded or brainwashed. lol.

When you hear terms like brainwashed and fanboy, you know the lucidity of someone's argument gave up the ghost a long time ago.

A Fabergé egg is not a mobile device. It is not intended to be carried around in your pocket and used on the go. Something that is to be used that way, maybe shouldn't be made of "finer materials".

Personally, I like the look and feel of the 4s, including the glass
I don't use a case, I use my iPhone naked and carry it with me everywhere I go
I have never dropped it or damaged it (or my iPhone 4 or 3GS before it)
And if the day comes that I do drop it and shatter it, I won't point the finger at Apple
I will accept responsibility for my own actions
I don't want or need Apple to produce a device that is designed to be indestructible
If I felt I needed that, I would buy a different device

I dont really see a reason why I need to switch my iPhone 4 (verizon) got it in feb 2011 when it first released and Verizon is giving me the option to upgrade early in oct.
