except for those who are bothered with the warm whites, people who are not blown away don't see much difference between the following:

halogen/tungsten lighting vs CFL (on quality of light)
TFT vs IPS
ordinary lens vs a canon L lens

The analogy is not perfect but you get my drift. There's nothing wrong for thinking that way though, it's just a matter of how critical you are when you look at them.

I've uploaded 300dpi photos, and man I have new reference for judging what my prints will look like detail wise.

The title was created when didn't know that not all iPads have a crap yellow screen. So now if I get a good screen I'm sure I will be blown away by it. You could have figured that out on your own if you took your time to read the entire op.

I did.

So far everyone I've shown the new iPad 2 has been amazed, almost immediately. This is even before any apps were shown or anything. The level of detail here is just immaculate on every level. So glad I upgraded from the 2!

Not true. I'm not blown away but I can tell the difference between the lights. If I didn't have a yellow tint I would be blown away. Crisp isn't enough if the colors suck.

Yes, that's why I said on the first part, "except for those people who are bothered with the warm whites (yellow tint)" You are the exception. The screen I got is around 6000-6500K Cool, so mine doesn't have the warm whites.

Plus, I said it's not a perfect analogy as people have a different predisposition and experiences for these products. He might have more experience with Tungsten vs CFL than electronic displays.

The gist is that the difference is hard to explain and convince unless you are predisposed to see those differences.

Amen brotha

We are just more demanding consumers, who have higher standards apparently.

Compared my iPad 1 and new iPad3 on minimum and maximum brightness (attempting to match). Both seem to have very close to the same color. I don't see an issue. It must not be all iPads. My new iPad has the same color/temp as my iPad1.

Even though it isn't the point of the OP, I will comment that to me the retina display is a huge improvement. For some reason the ipad display has always looked grainy to me, much worse than any of my laptops or displays. The new iPad display is awesome. A quantum leap. Small text is now crystal clear. No graininess that I can discern.

Am I the only one who's iPad 2 was the one with warmer temp, while my new iPad is the one with much better more accurate colors? Seeing all these picky people complaining, I'm starting to think that's the case.

When I used my iPad 2 everyday, I didn't notice it had warmer temp. And it didn't bother me.

I'm disclaiming, I'm not sure if the yellowish problem I'm hearing is just the native white point. Our eyes get used to the temperature after a few minutes of viewing and it will eventually become your white. You usually notice temperature differences when you put two devices side by side.

Also as a sidenote, the temperature of the light you use for viewing (the environment) also affects the whites you see on your screen.

Have you seen this poll?

I would suggest a better way to phrase the survey question.

"If Apple came to your door and said you can exchange your new iPad and allowed you to open multiple boxes until you found one that satisfies you or offered a full cash refund; would you return yours?"

That would flush out the people who may have problems (i.e., Not Perfect) but are willing to live with them rather than go through the hassle of returning it; including the possibility of getting a replacement that has more problems.

First, i have tried it in different lights. I get the same result.
2nd, I have dual 24" monitors on my desk at work and they both have different white balances BUT they are both close enough so it's not that bad. Plus the 2nd display is just email ect, not looked at constantly .

I use a lot of different displays through the day, my Samsung galaxy skyrocket , wife's iPhone 4s, iPad ect. The only one the is an issue is the new iPad.

If you go back to page 6 you can see obvious pics. Fwiw, my wife who is not nearly as discerning on colors as I am said it was yellow when I asked her how she liked it.

My new iPad's screen is a ugly yellow one, but that was to be expected. I went through 14 iPad 2's to get one that could come close to displaying white as pure white without a lot of backlight bleed or other issues. The iPad is a pure luxury item, so burning through a dozen of them to get a "perfect" one is just part of it. It's not my fault Apple uses multiple display suppliers, and some subpar ones at that.

To me the best thing about retina display is you just forget about it. It's just a clear crisp screen that, after a while, you don't think about anymore and just enjoy the device.

I find the screen to be incredible. Couldn't imagine going back to my iPad 2. In fact, I have a hard time looking at my laptop screen now.

Yea, going between the retina display and my MacBook pro is actually kind of weird now. It was never like this when the iPhones retina display came out. But since the iPads screen is almost as large as a laptop, it actually makes my MBP screen look like crap. Lol, it really is pretty stunning.

Then you probaby got one with correct tint. Cause no one is talking about text sharpness in this thread.

Jesus what a waste of your energy. You sound like you have higher standards than apple for quality.

Its pretty damn easy to have higher standards than Apple for quality. Sorry man, times have changed. Their QC has slipped.

Steve Jobs would have NEVER used a yellow tint display as his personal device.

Yeah, because nobody ever complained about yellow tints on iPad 2s or iPhones before when Steve was still here.

True, yellow screens have been around for awhile. I'm just saying he never would have used one personally. You disagree? In his bio, we learned that he argued about the shade of grey used on the mens bathroom sign.

I wish I knew Steve Jobs as well as you seem to...
