But the only flaw in the function being time based is that the "peak" function will become the "pop" function after a finite amount of time, meaning you won't be able to hold that "peak" for as long or as short as you wanted. That's why the applied pressure is important, so the phone will understand when to do exactly what you wanted to do.
Its not that difficult. Remember multi-touch? Apple 'invented' it, every manufacturer found a way to implement their own version of it, completely seamless to you and I. Now, every device has multi-touch.

Its one of the better S upgrades. Wasn't the 4S just faster...and Siri? And the 5S just faster & slow-mo?

People just got cross with Apple years ago for not drastically redesigning their device every year like every other manufacturer. Samsung tried that with the S3 -> S4 and got the same flack.

Oddly enough one of the neater things I've seen is the white-screen 'flash' for selfies. Simple & smart.

I'm not disappointed because this is "just" an S iteration, I wasn't expecting anything truly groundbreaking. I have a 6 Plus and I'm getting a 6S Plus when it's available. Mostly for 2 reasons. 1) I'm on the Next plan with AT&T (why would I continue paying the same amount for my installments when I could just get the latest device with better tech?) 2) See Number 1.

Seriously though 3D (Force) Touch could indeed change (even revolutionize) iOS 10 (or X), so i'm really excited about what iP7 will bring! Think about the possibilities, first iPhone without a home button?! Furthermore better camera than my current 8mp (updated 12MP with 4K capabilities is better), most likely 2GB of Ram and iOS 9 will be great with the new chips.

Apple will (probably, though almost certain ->) NEVER become a spec whore, or have the best specs on PAPER. You won't get 100 new features with the latest 35MP camera and a battery that'll last 43 days straight. What you could expect however, is a phone that's still a top contender and can outclass many phones on the market. When I think about it. . . I don't even care about the market. The iPhone and iOS works perfectly for my needs, I'm not disappointed at all.

This is a solid update for anyone, especially if you can afford to upgrade.

Long press. Every other manufacturer will simply do a long press. Something longer than a normal tap, but way shorter than the almost 2 seconds it takes to move icons around on the homescreen. I almost guarantee it will be a jailbreak feature, just like how the 6+ functions (landscape mode for emails and such) were ported to the 6 or how even my 6 can do split screen apps.
Long Press has pretty much already been implemented in android for ages. A simple OS update for sure would add the majority of cases used for "3d touch".

I've upgraded yearly since the iPhone was launched. This years 'S' model is actually a pretty good upgrade and in-line with expectations. I have a 6 plus and I'll be pre-ordering the 6S Plus sim-free this Saturday morning.

Really?

How would a standard "long press" achieve something like a peek and pop feature, when it's evident the two are differentiated by pressure? I don't think it's as simple or easy as a lot of people are attempting to make it out to be.

Long press exist in iOS already (hey moving icons!). "3D" Touch is more than just a long press and with time people will see the distinction.

It's amazing GM was able to use a steering wheel after Ford 'invented' it...M I Rite?

There's more than one way to skin a cat.

I would be shocked if the camera is any better than the camera of the iphone 6. 12 megapixels is just a little more resolution, but nothing major. The lens hasn't changed, and no optical image stabilization. The iphone 6 can already record 4k fine. I'm pretty surprised that apple rested on their laurels here for the camera, because the S6 and G4 are much better hardware wise and I don't think Apple kept up this time .

No reason at all to buy the iphone 6s at the pricepoint that Apple wants. Force touch is just a right click. 99% of what you can do with force touch can be done simply by press-and-hold functionality. It's not a big deal.

Battery life won't be any better, if not worse. Processor may be a bit faster but nothing major either.

Looks like the iPhone 7 will be the true upgrade next time: thinner, much faster, much better camera.

What on earth are you even talking about? The iPhone 6 absolutely cannot in no way shape or form record 4K video. Quit spouting off complete nonsense.

All Apple had to do was eliminate the bezels and the iphone 6S would have been a home run.

Anyone else not too terribly impressed with the new iPhone 6s/Plus?

Still an excellent device, but in my opinion I just don't think it's that much of an upgrade from the 6 or the Plus.

I am just as much an Apple lover as the next guy on here with a rMBP, 64GB iPad Air 2, Apple TV, Apple Watch, and iPhone 6 Plus 64GB. I have truly invested in Apple. But the keynote just didn't really do anything for me.

Hoping my opinions will change when I get my hands on one.

Thoughts?

I thought the incremental updates were good. Force Touch, camera better in low light, 12MP, use screen as flash, takes a pic before and after your pic. Incremental, but good upgrade.

iPhone 7. I see Force Touch as a pre cursor to removing the Home button from the front, slice the bezels, and you have a smaller phone with the same screen size. battery may shrink?

I'm willing to bet the camera is significantly improved, both back and front. A bit faster? The cpu and gpu are big upgrades. 2 gb ram would be icing on the cake. I bet the 7 will also be a 12mp camera maybe improved aperture. But the pictures shown by the 6s were impressive, especially the low light ones.

Just a right click? You can quickly preview, or go into an app, or swipe for more actions all while using one finger the whole time. And it's just the beginning before developers and jail breakers get to it. The demo of the game where you can switch weapons just by adding pressure was pretty sick. Seems like some cues from activator/velox were used.

Battery life I agree.

And what's your problem? Apple hater? I just sold the IP6 that I paid $299 for a year ago and received $500 for last week. Isn't that enough reason to get the new model WITH a new 1 year guaranty?

Curious what it would take to impress you? An 7" screen?

Force touch will be "just a right click" in the same way that Touch ID was "just a new way to unlock your iPhone".

In other words it's just the beginning of changing the iPhone experience for the better.

In my opinion this is pretty much always the case. There's never that much of an improvement in a single generation. Enjoy your phone for 2 or 3 years, then get an upgrade that you can actually appreciate and feels substantial.

This is my plan. It's time for me to step off Apple's relentless upgrade train.

I've gone from 3G to 4 to 4s to 5s to 6.

The only time I've ever felt like I truly upgraded was when I went from the 3G to the 4. I think I'll stick with this 6 until my next upgrade date in August 2017 when I'll take a look at the 7s.

I started on the 5 (the 4 was borrowed). Went to the 5S because iOS 7 slowed down my 5. Went to the 6 because of the simultaneous LTE + Voice. Same as you, I'll wait for 7.

I honestly wish I was less picky. My friend has a 4 on iOS 6 and is happy...another who has a 5 and iOS 8 and he's happy too...

I disabled the animations on the 6, seems to be a bit better.

I have the iPhone 5 since 2012 and I'm pretty impressed with the 6s.

I would get the 6s in a heartbeat but I'm currently traveling long term and I just don't have access to any stores here in South America. Maybe when I travel to Hong Kong or Singapore next year I'd consider getting one.

But I'm just hoping my iPhone 5 will survive 12 more months, that's all I ask for.
