Welcome to the internet age, where one knows virtually everything about a product before it is released.

I own a 3GS and I still do not a see a difference between the two except for the new design.
I sold my 3GS and used my sons iphone4 today since AT&T botched the order for mine. I honestly like the 3GS case design better than the new iPhone. I guess I'll get used to it but it reminds me of something from years ago before everything had futuristic rounded edges.

It feels very solid and I guess I'll get used to it, but after using a 3GS which was jail broken and set up the way I wanted it to be, I probably won't be all that thrilled with the new phone. .

Sometimes you build something up so big that when you actually get it, you're disappointed. Like the chase is more exciting than the finish line.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8A293 Safari/6531.22.7)

Pros. The screen is great. The phone feels very solid. The OS is quite snappy.

Cons. The housing is nowhere near as ergonomic. The vibration feels quite a bit weaker than any of the 3 previous iPhones. It gets pretty warm doing very little.

I think you can make thread for all the previous generations.

In 2008 - "Not that impressed with the iPhone 3G, am I the only one?"

In 2009 - "Not that impressed with the iPhone 3Gs, am I the only one?"

Even the original iPhone was criticized alot because it lacked many basic features for a phone.

Unless holographic images of Princess Leia start popping out of our iPhone screens, you really wouldn't be all that impressed anymore even if Apple decided to add fancy UI/animated transitions. It is like people who got an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 after a few days. "Ok, cool. Nice graphics. Beat the game already. What's next?"

It's okay to be underwhelmed. You don't need to get the newest phone each and every release. The world will not end if you are a few generations behind.

iphone 4 will be my first, so I am pretty certain I'll be blown away. But I definitely will not hold it against anyone with a 3GS who isn't blown away.
Good for you. Be happy with your device. A new release did not make your 3GS less capable than it was last week. It is still an awesome phone.

I LOVE it. I love the look of it...I love the feel of it.

Now, if only I can teach it to make breakfast for me in the morning, it would be PERFECT.

In all seriousness, I am VERY happy with my purchase.

(I upgraded from a 3G)

What exactly were your expectations? You knew everything about the device. I can possibly understand someone with a 3GS being a little underwhelmed, but a 3G? Way waaay faster, takes videos, front camera w/ facetime, gyroscope, compass, voice control, beautiful display, beautiful design, multitasking, custom backgrounds, finally great battery life, etc, I'm sure I missed something too! I realize these aren't all new features but they're all new to 3G owners.

If you are very underwhelmed then you likely bought into the hype too much!!

Some things you list are supported on the 3GS -- compass, voice control, multitasking, custom backgrounds. It has the same download speed.

The main functional advantages of the "4" are the improved camera, hi rez display, faster cpu, faster upload speed, and bigger battery -- all in a thinner, snazzier enclosure. It is the most significant update to the iPhone since 2007. Now if Apple would offer it under all sevice providers...

Of course it feels like the 3GS -- it uses the same OS. The improvements in the 4 are largely under the hood -- amazing amazing screen, which if that doesn't impress you I don't know what to say, better video, better camera, better battery life. I'm not really sure what you thought you were buying.

This goes to show that all the 3G users who didn't upgrade to 3GS, claiming it wasn't a significant upgrade, were all wrong. 3GS users may not notice much difference in terms of speed, but that's because 3GS is fast enough.

While I consider the iPhone 4 as much of a significant update as the 3GS was over 3G, it's an evolutionary update in many aspects (better camera, video, etc.).

He was actually comparing the iPhone 4 to a 3G...

Thus far...coming from a 3G....I'd go so far as to call it the single most impressive piece of consumer electronics hardware readily available to the US market.

.....its f**king amazing

I'm coming from an iPhone 3G so there are a lot of features that are new to me and the speed increase is great. I can't look at my 3G screen anymore after viewing the one on the iPhone 4.

I'll withhold full judgment until I see one in person, but I don't see what the hype is about. You have sharper text on a very small screen, that makes a huge difference how? On the ipad I would say the retina display would have been more of a wow. The 512mb, meh until something comes out that really uses it. I use the crap out of my 3gs and it's never run out of memory or functioned sluggishly, this is jailbroken. I'm currently running ios4 and it runs just as snappy as the previous build did. Hopefully an app that needs 512mb will wow me (and no imovie is not it, meh).

Other than that what does it have? The new 90's candy bar styling? The looks thicker but is really thinner than a 3gs? Don't get me wrong guys I totally love Apple stuff, I spend a ton of money on their products, but I'm just trying to see what it worth re-upping my 2 years with ATT and paying a couple hundred bucks over my 3gs.

No don't extend the contract. Just wait and let it run it's course and then you can sign up with Verizon and buy an iPhone in a few months.

I'm coming from a 3GS and I'm SUPER impressed! the thing screams and it feels like quality, which makes me very happy.

I don't know what you were expecting, but I feel it's a huge step up from the 3GS running 4.0 I used until this morning. I honestly couldn't be more impressed with it.

We have tihe Sprint EVO 4G In our lab, which is the most impressive Android phone currently shipping. As good as the iPhone 4 is, there are a few features from the EVO I would like to see on it:

LTE or WIMAX 4G data network with option to be a wifi hotspot

Live TV feed of key sporting events like the world cup and wimbledon

FM radio tuner

Arrow keys on the virtual keyboard

Animated wallpaper (like the a koi pond)

WOW - go back to the Droid or Windows phone, you don't deserve to be an iPhone owner - seriously the screen is disgustingly good looking (go watch a HD video on YouTube) - text looks so great, the camera is much better, a flash, front facing camera, speed is there (especially when coming from a 3GS with OS4 installed) - I'm going to stop now, I'm sure Apple will let you return it if you actually hate it that much....

I think people are confused and expect the "experience" to be different, it's still an iPhone with the same OS you had yesterday, come on......

Thats what I did and got out of the ATT's contract and sold my iPhone 3GS. The iPhone 3GS is very fast and I read reviews about the iPhone 4 not being any much faster from the reviewers take on it but I do hear good stuff about the display.

Either way for me the iPhone 4 isnt worth the crappy ATT 3G speeds and 2GB cap (I know there are some of you that grandfathered the unlimited plan which is what I would have done if I kept my original ATT plan).

Currently I'm very happy with my Nexus One. I can 3g Tether any device and up to 5 devices with 6Mbps download speed (T-mobile in my area just updated their towers to HSPA +), its so fast!! Surfing the internet or even downloading files using tmobile's HSPA + tethered to my notebooks feels almost the same as a basic broadband speeds from comcast!

I also bought a Seidio 3200 mAh battery to use with my Nexus One and I can use 25+ straight hours of tethering from the battery alone! One thing that I hate about the iPhone is the battery life sucks.

I thought about getting the iPhone 4 and signing up with ATT again but its really not worth it. I might get an iPhone only if Verizon or Tmobile adopts the phone though in the future.

I never thought that I would ever consider moving away from the iPhone (I've been using the iPhone since 2G) but I find Android the best phone right now.

Oh and the GPS navigation turn by turn directions on the Nexus One is amazingly good and accurate!

Hey guys,
After being really excited about the iPhone 4, I just got mine today and the new design is cool but as soon as I turned it on it felt like I was on my 3GS.
I don't know why but I was wondering I wasn't the only one...

If you've read all the reviews, you'll find that the iPhone 4 is not really that much different than the 3GS.
Difference:
- faster processor (so taking pics are faster, and launching apps are faster...I wouldn't say waaay faster, but faster)
- a much better screen resolution (so good that people are claiming it looks like print on a book, no visible pixelization)
- has a 5 megapixel camera with flash, and a front facing camera for video chat.

Other than those things, it works just like the 3GS, especially since the 3GS can update to the same iOS4 the iPhone uses.

Oh, battery life apparently is better too. And from what Apple has said, the iPhone 4 is open. Meaning you can slap on any SIM card from any carrier (as long as they support the iPhone) and use the iPhone on their network, without having to jailbreak the phone.

right now, there is not allot to be impressed by. More apps and more time will tell. We need more apps updated.

Things we can appreciate:
Sexy design but possibly hindering reception.
awesome text rendering and some apps updated.

I would have upgraded just for the display because i stare at this thing for hours and hours everyday. I really appreciated its clarity while texting today, sofaking crisp. no jaggies
