Can't apple just do a software update and make the ears of the notch black to blend it and still have status bar info???

Here's a simple solution:

if it had to have the status bar like that above - i'll take that notch in the 2nd photo. would have preferred a status bar like we have now. this new one will take some getting used to.

iPhone X is all about the notch. It reminds you have facial recognition and not fingerprint recognition.

It's silly to hide the notch when it's Apple's signature. Without the notch, it's just a rounded rectangle like an LG or Samsung.

Honestly there could be an option where you can turn on solid status bar, like in the access tab for people with poor vision or something. I honestly doubt Steve Jobs would have let the position of the time/status indicators go what with them not being align horizontally with height of the notch itself.

I actually hate the notch from purely an aesthetic point of view. But after watching a hands-on video, I feel like it somewhat makes sense due to the removal of the home button. Without the home button you need a way to quickly switch apps and/or get back to your home screen. To do this, you have to interact with the bottom of the screen by swiping. At this point, where do you move the control center to? Another use for the notch is to make it slightly more intuitive to the end-user because on the left of the notch, it brings down your notifications, on the right it brings you to control center. Now for watching videos/content in landscape mode, the notch is just annoying.

I think they left the notch on purpose so it is recognizable as an iPhone instead of all the new Android phones. What is really strange and bothers me more is when looking at fullscreen video the notch hides part of the video, unless you resize it making it smaller and not taking advantage of the whole screen size. In fullscreen mode it should black out the ears, not cover the video...

No that would be way too smart for Tim Cook's tiny brain. Instead, lets use misconstrued marketing manipulation to better position the iPhone X as having a similar sized screen as any of the recent android flagships

They won't ever black out status bar. They have told developers they should not do it in their apps. It's very clear how they want things to be.

Being reminded about facial recognition is the least of a user's worries with the X. They have serious practice to get used to control center, and the home button functionality. Moreover, control center being at the top of the very tall display essentially ensures no one can reach it one-handed anymore. That's the reality.

I absolutely agree, and actually like the notch. The problem is only in videos and photos, there they should just hide it. How hard can it be?
