I keep seeing these pictures where they blend in the cutout part but nobody ever addresses where the clock/time will be. I’m really curious to see how they go about it.

If you touch on the battery icon it can toggle either clock or battery status to display. Just my thinking but Apple may not do it this way.

The thing I don't get is why they have the cutout for the front facing camera and speaker in the first place. It seems like a waste to have to make a special screen that goes to the top left and top right just to display the battery and cell signal. I don't see that space being used for full screen apps like watching movies or browsing the internet. It would just be black, wasted space. Maybe I'll be proven wrong though, but I would find it hard to justify that from a manufacturing POV.

The cutout on the top will be blended with the display like the image below, not like on the render. The case looks fugly.

Edit :- Like this one :-

If that winds up being the design, I am totally digging on how the display can create a "virtual" display boundary - and assuming it can integrate the "horns" into UI as needed, either as an extension of the primary area or as isolated notifications/icon displays (per the mockup).

Reminds me of the Moto 360 and it's flat tire where all the sensors were located.

On a more serious note, here's hoping for dark mode to be implemented back into ios!!! I do like it, and if it comes in copper like a recent rumour suggested I may have to reconsider skipping this one.

Now the front with the cutout is as ugly as the back but you can't cover it with a case. Can't Apple afford decent designers?
There is that best rewarded designer that Apple can afford, but he's obsessed with doorknobs, trees, and doormat inlays so the company may populate the planet with another refurbed iPhone 6 shape once again...

It will be on your Apple Watch of course.

Agreed. People sometimes argue "Look how nice my iPhone still is, after a year of use, thanks to the case." I feel like it doesn't matter - they never enjoy it because it's always hidden in a case.

Replacing my battered 6S Plus in 2018 will feel even nicer because I'll be getting a box-fresh, mint condition iPhone.
Problém with 6/6plus design is that (at least for me), it is difficult to hold it without case, till 6 i hav enever ever had a case on iphone but with 6/6+ design, I need one (even though I hate looking at it and it makes phone bulky and heavy).

I’m gonna get it anyway but I just really don’t like the whole top indentation going on.

I don't understand everyone's hate obsession with this tiny area at the top which is necessary to house these items. It seems there is always something on every iPhone edition that people absolutely hate at first and learn to live with it just fine.

I'm okay with this indention/space/minute void/small black spot. It's a very small price to pay for so much screen real estate.

I'm really just trying to figure out why everyone is making such a big deal about it that's all.

That is one hideous, awkward looking case. Smart to leak a picture of it. Based on other feedback here the company can save hundreds of thousands of dollars by not making it. Ha. Ha.
That case isn't really meant to be an everyday case. I had my iPhone 7 Plus in a similar looking but rubber-bodied UAG wallet case while on a hike out in California. While going down a particularly steep cliff, some of the ground gave way under my feet and I fell and landed on my a..iPhone ;) that was tucked into my back pants pocket and slid a few feet. The iPhone did not get so much as a scratch and on regular days can be carried more fashionably caseless or in a stylish slim case, looking as new as the day I got it.

So for folks bashing on the design saying Apple screwed up the design if it needs a case like this, or that the case designers screwed up making an ugly case, stop and think that the case isn't meant to be a permanent fixture. It's an accessory. An accessory is something meant to enhance something else for a given situation or function.

Just as I wouldn't wear my little black dress and black high heels to a kids' baseball game, I also wouldn't wear my t shirt, jeans, and tennis shoes to an evening cocktail party. It's still the same me under those clothes and accessories, though.

For me, the rounded, slippery metal backs in the thin frame of modern iPhones would prevent me from truly enjoying one without a case. Partially because of the drop risk, but also because it is simply a bit stressful (not sure about the right wording here, non-native speaker) to keep a firm grip and use it naturally.

The design is less important, as I usually look at it from the front side (a screen is a screen, no matter if a case is on or not) and don't want/need to show off anyway.

Let's put it in a different perspective: The modern, slim design allows to add a case to it without mutating it into some ugly behemoth. :)
Agreed. The 6, 6S, 7 iPhones are the scariest phones to hold without a case. The tighter you grip them the more they feel like they will shoot right out of your hand like a soap bar.

So rounded corners display for iPhone, square screen for a watch. Makes total sense!

iPhone 6 - 7 series phones have absolutely the worse ergonomics on any phone. The grip is ridiculously slippery.

The clock/time will be on your Apple Watch... obviously! ;)

(in all seriousness, good point)

It is Apple's most slippery design for me. I used to use the iPhone 4 without a case. I found the iPhone 5s a bit slippery, and my SE as well. I think it's more the aluminum than the design. If the iPhone 8 goes back to being a glass sandwich, I can see myself using it without a case from time to time. My S8+ isn't too slippery. I usually use a case on it because they made the curved edges and those are very vulnerable to cracks. They just protrude so much. The iPhone 8 appears to be flat so I don't anticipate as much difficulty keeping it safe. My SE is pretty tough. I have a tempered glass protector on the SE that can barely be seen. I sometimes use a case on it but most often, not.

Instead of an expensive case, I will purchase insurance.

"Instead of a single purchase of a tangible item to physically protect my VERY expensive electronic device, I will make an expensive monthly purchase to acquire a promise that a company will fix my item, and I will only receive something for my money if that item breaks"

That pretty much sum it up?

These overreactions are dreadful. Majority of people complaining will be the ones ordering on Day 1.

That's because MacRumors forums are general areas for complaining about the iPhone that doesn't meet their agenda of what they want. But yes, I agree that most will be overwhelmed by the Keynote when Apple Demonstrates their latest device and the technology that is embedded inside. Which translates into those who said they weren't interested in it and now they are vigorously hitting the refresh button to preorder at 3 AM.
