It’s a great deal. But for most people already ingrained with Apple, they won’t let go their iPhone.

As for Android users, you might have good options from Google and Samsung. But at $200?

You know what would make me think about switching? If it was a SMALL device and I could use Android without Google.

Not sure why many are saying the lack of NFC is a a let down. I sometimes feel like I’m the only one in my city that taps with their iPhone. It seems the vast majority still prefer to tap with their chip cards.
I could be wrong but I have a feeling use of phone pay vs physical cards is largely an age thing and perhaps in some cases a regional thing on how common reliable NFC terminals are. There's a few places I frequent that look like they should have the capability but don't and you've got places like Walmart or grocery stores that don't accept it.

If multiple places you go don't take it, I can see it just not being top of mind for some people.

Overall this phone seems like a solid offering and certainly a good option for a teen or anyone who doesn't care about NFC which honestly isn't critical for the average person.

Might want to check the fine print. 2000 nits peak brightness BUT 200 nits brightness is what they use for the battery life claims.

This is really nice, I may go for it for my 7 year old instead of a IP SE. The screw on accessories are pure genius, amazing to finally have a kickstand on a non case phone. I'll bet this is a big hit for kids (at least those "brave" enough to have a green bubble lol!).

Modular battery should be a must, you only need to look at everyone panicking about Battery Health on our forums to understand why..
I honestly am not a fan of the current state of the battery health section. i wish it wouldnt show percentage and would rather show like Good, Fair, Poor etc because of all the people who say this:

IvE hAd My PhOnE fOr 6 MoNtHs AnD mY BaTtErY hEaLtH wEnT dOwN 4%! ShOuLd I bE wOrRiEd!?!?!?

Its cheap for a reason, don't expect long support or fast releases when it comes to security and bugfixes.
Nothing is a cool brand with nice gadgets, but the are always behind Samsung and Pixel when it comes updates.

Yep.

And don't expect a seamless and tight integration with your apps (Notes, Contacts, Photos, Messages, Weather, Stocks, Shazam, Calendar/Fantastical, Reminders, Stocks, Overcast, Maps, Dropbox, Kindle, etc, etc) on your other Apple devices (Mac, iPad, Watch, etc).

Peak brightness is to display HDR content (pictures, movies). Is 200 nits unrealistically low though? I don't know what the average brightness is on iPhones. My iPhone also regulates brightness down aggressively when I'm indoors without direct sunlight.

Other than software support, this is way worse than Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Note 4

Even Fairphone is a way better choice than this...

Walmart is the ONLY store I go to that still doesn’t accept tap to pay with phones but I use their app and use Walmart pay (scan QR code). The app isn’t too bad but I hear a lot of people bitching when they try to pay with phone and the associates tell them ‘no Apple pay’. I only go there because there’s a neighborhood market right by my house, I drove to the super one last month for the first time in years and never again it was stupid busy.

Lol no thanks. Even an 5 year old iPhone 11 still smokes it.

Can barely tell, ya. I have a 120hz 16" Macbook Pro and a 13" iPad Air. Barely even notice 🤷

Yep... same here. I guess that's froth-worthy on forums, though.

No tight/seamless app integration with other Apple devices is an instant deal-killer.

It's a ho-hum phone.

So what? Am we supposed to dump our Macs, Homepods, iPhones, Apple Watches, Apple TVs, and iPads and go with Android/Windows, so we can buy an Android phone for $200? That's going to cost a wee bit more than $200!
Not at all. In 2025, the EU will force Apple to run Android Parallels on all their devices, so you will have the consumer choice you've always wanted but never had! ;)

it just shows that there is a lot of downward pricing pressure slowly building up in hardware. Threatening to crack the dam.

Goes for even cheaper secondhand / renewed these days.

Yeah, but it's five years old. Software support will end soon (iOS 18 surely being the last) and the chance of the electronics breaking just increases. Not to mention the wear on the battery for being used for half a decade.

I wouldn't buy an 11 anymore. If you want a $200 phone (and for it to be an iPhone), a 2022 SE is a far better pick.
