Wouldn't want to put money behind close-proximity wearable tech with untested long-term effects unless I had Apple's coffers. Lawsuits will happen.

I’m on my third pair and my wife on the second. And one is already starting to rattle again.

so in my perspective, it was 100% failure rate. And since the 2year AppleCare coverage period is expiring, guess I’ll soon be left without working AirPods.
I’m on my fourth AirPods Pro. Thankfully all covered under warranty. Bought on day 1 release.

What I find interesting is that do all these companies just reverse engineer apple technology because they have access to it in the factory? Or was apple always using off the shelf technology anyway?

I know sometimes they do that and just piece it all together (I.e. original iPod). But things like the Apple Watch dont seem to have been cloned.

Basically, how much technology is "taken" from companies during the build process overseas? And would it make sense to defend against that by building elsewhere?
There is no cloning going on. They just decided to implement their own headphones targeting the features in the AirPods Pro. They are not the only ones but these do look good on paper. Remains to be seen how well they work in practice.

If you’re just listening to music or need solid Bluetooth wireless air buds these seem pretty incredible for $100. I would love to see how they sound though. I love my AirPods Pro, but they don’t sound particularly incredible. I can’t keep a seal in the ear no matter what tip I use, and the AirPods Max sound so much better it’s ridiculous. But for utility and being in the ecosystem (always available Siri, announce messages, 3-D head tracking, and soon Find My leave behind and Bluetooth tracking) they are very good.

If this company can come even close to the AirPods Pro basic functionality for nearly 1/3 the price that’s pretty astonishing.

I like the design so if they're just better than gen 1 and gen 2 AirPods then they're a winner.

I highly doubt on sound and ease of use. But we'll see.

Alright Bose, where are your noise cancelling earbuds that don’t have the muffling issue? I’ll buy em!

d d d dealbreaker for me. Tim has me deep inside his clutches, within the monopolistic garden, I cannot escape this ecosystem which lies the infuriating auto switching feature and gimmicky spatial audio.

Love the AirPod pro but they started to fail outside of warranty period.

Just replaced with beats studio buds which I prefer so far due to my use.

The only dealbreaker for me is it’s not tied to Apple’s ecosystem. 🩰🤽🏿🧘🏿🤸🏿‍♀️

aw such a shame. It’s already a d d d d dealbreaker for me

Wait... it's a "dealbreaker" that this 3rd-party pair of earbuds is not as integrated into Apple's ecosystem as Apple's own earbuds?

And we're surprised by this?

:p

I am surprised. That’s why it’s a d d dealbreaker for me. I really want these….. but Tim is encouraging me not too. I wish Apple stops being unfair and let companies implement whatever they want into Apple’s system, just like what Apple does themselves.

3rd parties should be allowed to use that new pop up window and have their own headphone icons and have the ability to use the system’s terrible auto switching feature and let them auto pair to all devices. Rite now it’s unfair to the competition, Apple always has the advantage. Open the system up Apple for everyone so they can take advantage of it. Otherwise I can’t buy these.

Making things cheaper. That's one way to go. Better? Maybe, maybe not. And why is it 'taking on Apple' and not 'taking on Samsung' who also makes ear-bud-thingys and quite possible sells more of them than Apple?

Clickbait is why. Samsung, Amazon, Google, Sony are all being taken on with this product. Further, metrics say the 'business' to be taken from Apple will be considerably less than the aforementioned companies. But that don't get as many clicks.

Tim's encouraging you not to? Well some come with all the encouragement built in already while some need Tim. And this is why these Nothing Earbuds are a better choice for you over AirPods Pro as well as Google, Amazon, Samsung.
This is competition at its finest.

These earbuds offer me Nothing, not without the economic system features like I mentioned earlier. That’s why Apple needs to allow competitors the same system offerings like AirPods. Otherwise it’s unfair.

Meh, Nothing™ spectacular
Just like my Bose quiet comfort earbuds that came out last year. The ANC is spectacular. The sound, to me, superb. But that only works if you can get the things paired up or to get them to actually play music after they tell me they are connected play button is pressed and the song half way over then you realize you started playing a song but I don’t know where it’s playing to because it’s not through them or my iPhone. Or my other favorite one the left ear quits playing then you have to take them out put back in charging case and repair them. It is like Bose really rushed them out because by far these are the worse earbud from Bose. So bad I caught the airpods on sale at Amazon. Bought them and they are pretty darn close to Bose on sound, lacking a little on bass noise canceling is almost the same with Bose winning but what the heck good is it if you have to spend 10 minutes pairing.

Technology is always there. Apple is a tech aggregator, like Walmart selling potato chips. If some potato chips sell well in Walmart, Costco will soon follow.

In most cases, Engineers only need an idea. Most competent Engineers will know how to realize that idea or vision. In case of AirPods, there is not much to it. In case of manufacturing cutting edge node chips, that's difficult. That's why even Apple, Intel, Huawei, can't do it by themselves, as they can only design the best chips in the world, but not manufacturing them. They all depend on ASML and TSMC for that. Those are the type of technology you need to "steal" or you need to invest in basic research for about 5-10 years to catch up, for both the US and China.

Most Engineers that works on the most cutting edge technologies are actually in China, Shenzhen, to be exact. They just don't have the brand power Apple has to break into the US market at a dominating scale. (That, and among other reasons)

Then why do Apple seem to release the product before anyone else?
Why did they release "retina" resolution screens first?
I dont remember earbuds that small with the noise cancelling options (transparency) etc..
And then when apple make it, there's a scramble to get a cheaper / competitive product out.

So I just dont get why if all the tech is about sitting there, only apple seems to put the bits together and comes out with the innovative product that everyone copies. It doesn't make sense.

I understand that but why couldn't they do this 2 yrs ago if the tech was readily available?

You do realize retina was just a marketing term?
