I haven't heard any supply chain info about the new laptop online...but if they're going to ship in Dec the production lines should be starting soon.

The original Apple TV was in 2007. The 2nd Gen was 2010. The 3rd Gen was 2012. The 3rd Gen Revision A was 2013. The 4th Gen was 2015 and the 5th Gen was 2017. Sure looks like a new Apple TV every 2 - 3 years.

I think you missed the point.

As I said before, the only time Apple has had less than a 36 month upgrade for the ATV was when the current generation was missing a huge feature, such as 1080p for the ATV2 and 4K for the ATV4.

The ATV4K isn't missing any "must have" capability, and with the ATV4K having the A10X it is plenty powerful.

The longest time between updates was almost four years. I already explained the reason for the short period updates.

So getting back to the quote that was in my post:
we're long overdue for an update.

This is the update cycle:
ATV1 Jan 2007
ATV2 Oct 2010 - 46 Months, but no 1080p
ATV3 Mar 2012 - 17 Months
ATV4 Oct 2015 - 42 Months, but no 4K
ATV5 Sept 2017 - 23 Months
ATV6 ????????? - 36 Months in so far......

How are we "long overdue" for an ATV update?

I'm collecting Intel macs in advance of the transition. Happy to lug along with all the familiar and enjoyable software I've collected over the years. You fanboys can have fun with you're 'future' stuff. For me, the macs I already have do all I ever need, as fast as I need, and as a bonus they're compatible with all my old stupid software AND upgradeable!

Enjoy the 'future' boys. If you ever want to chill in the past, I'm your gal ;)
Music software I have requires me not go past Catalina so I’m in the same boat. Future stuff is cool, but I’ll stay with what I’ve got for a good while. Maybe a laptop eventually, but not as the main one that I require.

(46 + 17 + 42 + 23) / 4 = 32 months average. Since we’re almost 37 months since the last update, I’d say we’re 5 months overdue.
Although one could argue, that the variance is quite large and that we are still within a reasonable timeframe for not being long overdue. However, the anticipation of needing to spend my money outweighs any statistical analysis. Just give me an ATV6!

Would love to see a Mac release that has a higher video refresh rate. 90hz would be great. 120hz would be better. 240hz would be awesome.

It would make a lot of sense to release these just before Christmas. They make an obvious gift and there seems to be pent up demand. Releasing post Christmas would miss out on a whole heap of seasonal sales.

... Regardless of which Mac comes first, Apple is transitioning its entire Mac lineup to Apple Silicon chips, a process that's expected to take a year. By the end of 2021, Apple may be well on its way to sunsetting all Macs with Intel chips. ...
Citation please. during the WWDC keynote, Apple said the transition would take *TWO* years. Please don't give people inappropriate expectations.
