Went to check it out. First impressions..

- screen is very nice.. big version of X.. obvious.
- weighs more than 8 Plus. not a workout but those that get finger fatigue.. be aware.
- lots of wasted screen in area important to me - photos. In portrait and landscape the ‘workable’ area isn’t significantly bigger than on X. I didn’t like this as this is a big reason for the big screen for me. I don’t think this changes with stock Photos app.
- I use second to smallest font so definitely extra text in apps like News.

It’s nice but I wasn’t blown away. I have looking forward to this phone but also have been wanting to downsize as ‘lugging’ a Plus has been getting old to me.

It was a short time but these are my impressions. I’m leaning towards going XS. FWIW, I don’t have small hands. I could reach most things on XSM

Yes it seems to be a perfect size not too big, not too small, I think IM the only one with silver :) still love my traditional silver tho… setting it up now! Hope the keyboard is bigger!

Nope. Not the only one. I always get silver. Last year I decided to go for the gold 8+ and then my daughter got silver and I was so jealous - that glass back on the silver was so pretty! Back to silver I went for my XS Max.

Now, the back on the space gray is something else (at least it looks like it in the pics I’ve seen), but I don’t know how I’d feel about the black edges, so I’m glad I went with silver.

yes silver looks super clean and sharp!!! Cant figure out, does the phone come with any NEW ring tones? I backed up from iPhone and hard to tell.... I see three new wallpapers.. that's it??
only seeing those 3 new ones as well

I went from an 8+ to a X to an Xs max. I love the bigger screen and I forgot how easy it was to type on a bigger screen after rocking the X for 8 months. The bigger size will take a bit of getting used to... but well worth it!!

I have heard a few people say this and it concerns me, lol. How can you NOT notice the difference? It’s larger!

It makes no sense to me lol. I went from the X to the XS max and definitely notice the size difference. I like it, but I definitely notice it’s a lot larger.

I’ll be the contrary opinion here. It’s too big. Mainly, it’s too big for no reason. The keyboard is comically huge and you don’t gain any real estate in many places. I miss the in hand feel of the X and might go back to an XS.

i am so glad to have a big phone again! i was one of those that was shell shocked last year going from the 7 plus to max and considered returning it because of the size.

it's perfect!

I’m so torn about this too. Have had the max since the morning after using x for 10 months and can’t decide if the trade off of a bigger screen worth the sacrifice of lighter phone that could be one handed used. Guess I’ll see how it feels by Monday and make a decision. The other issue is what the likelihood to land xs in stock within the return window.

I feel the same. I came from the X I don’t really find the extra screen real estate all the useful or really all that noticeable. I am gonna give it some and see how I feel before making my decision to go down the XS but it is a beautiful screen!

I’m coming off a 6, and have long said a plus is too big. That said, the screen size sucked me in and i preordered a max. Initial impressions are: 1-it IS big and heavy and 2-one handing is ... not ideal.

For the first, I’m going to give it a bit. I can probably adjust but want to see how it does in pants pockets. I’ll use most of the return period before final decision.

As to number2, also will see - I’m a fairly big guy, 6’5”, 215lb and can reach most of the screen but control center and notifications are tough one handed. I’ll give it time.

It's not too big. Which is crazy because it's huge. In 2014, reviewers thought the Nexus 6 was too big with its 5.96" display. This is bigger, but at least the body of the device isn't that large.

So this was what I was waiting for, went for the 8plus last year vs the X. Size wise it’s everything I wanted. That said, I’ll agree that there is a lot of wasted space. It really does feel like they’re just blowing up the X vs optomizing things like they did for the plus model. I hope this changes but won’t be holding my breath. I’ll still be happy with it either way.

This was my impression as well. I almost took photos of the size of an image being edited. It was way less of a difference than I expected.

Coming from an iPhone 7 Plus it’s kot to big. I like the extra screen space. I am not happy about not being able to see the battery percentage. I am noticing this phone takes forever to charge.

Just got mine, coming from the X, this is the size I’ve been missing. I absolutely hated the size of the X after having every Plus model of phone since the 6. So I’m thrilled to be back to a “normal” size screen for my personal liking.

I’ve never had a plus model because I thought they were too unwieldy. But I am coming from the X and find the Max to be awesome. I’m surprised by how sleek it is and the screen is amazing.

Coming from the X, it feels wider and heavier (noticeably and obviously). By wider, I mean that despite being able to hold the X in a rather comfortable way, the quarter inch or whatever extra width is obvious (I can feel a slight 'stretch' - for lack of a better word).

I still like the huge screen, but it feels weird. I figure it's because I was so used to the X form factor.

I hated my + and when I got the X I thought it was perfect, but this +, is so inviting, it’s huge, feels nice, and is big! Love it, and I can’t use with one hand!

I currently have last years X,
Anyone with the X who bought the Max have an opinion?
How about anyone who had the plus going to max?
Its tough to decide if the extra screen size is worth carrying around.

Trust me iPhone Max is the perfect sized iPhone. I was so skeptical about the size I was sure I would not like but honestly this is the best size, screen and hardware I have ever hold. I have X.

Absolutely not! I had an 8+ last year... the XS Max is almost the identical size as the 8+... and the upside is that it's virtually all screen. I love this thing... and struggled with the choice between 5.5/6.1/6.5 inch screens... since the physical package was no bigger than the devices that I've carried for the past 3-4 years, it was a no-brainer. I would have seriously regretted either of the smaller versions already.
