...too big ? naaa...comn from a Nexus 6P, which is a lil' taller, lil' wider, it's no prob ! look at all that beautiful MAX real estate display from top to bottom, yesss ! ;-}

...btw, this MAX is my first iPhone ever ! the Move to iOS app kinda/sorta worked but mostly kicked over my phone contacts & photos (Oreo 8.1)...and that was bout it. o_O eh, can't expect miracles anticipating everthing to go over seemlessly btwn 2 diff OS's...lotta manual work ahead but hey, really likin' this display, ease of operation, etc....kudos to :apple: on this one ! cheers !:)

PS...Nexus display looks briter only cuz i have it cranked up all the way...had MAX only at 1/2 to keep the batt/usage to a minimum...

I always had the Plus phones and never struggled with them despite average hand size.

I have had the X for the last year and not a single day went by where I didn’t struggle with *screen width*.

Less than 12 hours into the MAX and I am instantly enamoured with the device due to the additional screen width over the X along with the improvements from the OLED screen.

If you aren’t one to struggle with a larger phone than I cannot begin to express to you how much this additional screen size (specifically width) will change your life.

I still have my Product Red 8 Plus here. The Max is a bit narrower. I like it just fine. There is nothing for me to adjust to. I love the longer screen for watching videos in landscape. Even with the #%€¥ notch.

Yep, just barely. I’m used to using my phones one-handed, and the X was the perfect width, if only just slightly too tall. With the Max, I find myself straining to reach the left side of the screen with my right thumb. It makes typing noticeably different. Also turns out I’m not hugely fond of the gold color. Gonna be returning it first thing in the morning and keeping the silver Xs which is currently setting up as I type this.

In all honesty, it depends on the way you use your phone. Some people are accustomed to two handed use of a phablet , others aren’t. For example I like one handed use of a phone. To lie in bed on be on the train and tap out a message or two. Also consider that worth the plus some people could kind of get away with single handed use, but the max goes edge to edge which makes it impossible. For example when using the phone dial pad on the max single handed, it is IMPOSSIBLE to reach the first row of numbers.

So truth be told, while the massive screen looks gorgeous, the form factor may not suit everyone. We should be grateful that both the XS and the Max have identical specs at least.

I was really worried about the size coming from an iPhone 6.

Immediately out the box I knew I made the right decision. This phone is beautiful and not that much of a jump up in size. If you think you can handle a slightly bigger phone, you'll find it's worth it. At least I did.
Not that much different to an iPhone 6 in size? I’m sorry but that’s nonsense

Welcome to the family

It’s roughly the same size as all “plus” phones before it. The hype is crazy in regards to size of device. Screen is amazing but the device is no bigger than any other one before it.

Aren't the reviewers saying the increased difficulty of reaching the top of the screen is the most noticeable thing, as opposed to the overall size of the thing?

I currently have last years X,
Anyone with the X who bought the Max have an opinion?
How about anyone who had the plus going to max?
Its tough to decide if the extra screen size is worth carrying around.

why too big!? as an ex-plus user it feels still too small and not wide enough.

When the 6/6 Plus were announced, I was pretty sure that I was going for the 6, and had been laughing at friends with phablet Android phones... But they all raved about how the size was worth it.

I went into an Apple Store, and played with the 6 Plus vs the 6, and actually quite liked the Plus and it wasn't as unwieldy as I thought it would be.

Once it actually arrived, I thought I had buyer's remorse after a day or two for about a week - I thought I should have gone for the smaller 6. That soon passed though, and I really value the larger screen size.

Got the 6S Plus, then the 7 Plus... Then last year stuck with the 7 Plus. I didn't want to lose the size to downgrade to the size of the X, and the 8 Plus didn't offer quite enough, and the 7 Plus was working just great.

When the XS Max was confirmed, I was in. Can't wait to get even more screen real estate. DPD man is around 2 hours to delivery.

I’m going to see if I can find them in the stores today, but you use your phone like I do with my thumb, and I was wondering if I’d be able to use it one handed but it does seem like I won’t be from what you say.

They had them all on display at the Apple Store I went to, and the security cable attached is very unintrusive. You’ll be able to get a feel for it right away. I felt it was too big, but bought it anyway just to try it out (even though I already had a regular Xs at home from UPS). After using the Max for the evening, I switched to the Xs and felt immediately comfortable. With the Max, I could actually feel my thumb getting tired when typing due to how far I had to stretch its to reach the left side of the keyboard. When turning on the one-handed keyboard option, I feel like the keys are too squished and narrow, so that wasn’t good either.

Definitely try it out if you are considering it. Or you could always return it if you buy one, of course. I think it’s fine for two-handed users and people with large hands. But I’m neither of those.

I love my 8+. But it’s a 2 handed device. It’s big. It can’t have in my jeans pockets. I should say I love the screen and battery life. I don’t love the big’ness of the phone but I put up with it for screen and battery life.

I have ‘tested’ my wife’s X and I LOVE the size and weight of it. I don’t love the screen size for video. Text I’m indifferent. I need to install Lightroom on my wife’s X to see how much space I lose from 8+ to XS.

Decisions.

Really hard to get a good picture when I’m in bed with the lights off, lol. But hopefully this helps somewhat. Silver X next to a gold Xs Max. Taken with a silver Xs, which of course is identical to the X.

Thank you. I need to ‘audit’ my day and think about when the X would better fit somewhere. Most of the time it’s in my back pocket. I keep it in the cup holder of my truck. At restaurants it has to go on the table as in-pocket is tough. I know I would prefer the screen and battery life. I just love the feel of that X size.

It’s not too big for my hands. I can browse the web or watch YouTube and so forth with one hand so I can save the other for coffee/food. It’s not quite comfortable and I’ll have to stretch my fingers a bit but it’s doable.

Ah yeah that’s another thing... for CarPlay I always plug my phone in via USB when I’m driving, and place it in a cup holder. The Xs Max did not fit. It stops before reaching the bottom of the cup holder, and is only held up by the corners of the phone against the sides of the cup holder (maybe about 3/4 of the way down). So instead I had to lay it sideways within both cup holders (they are connected with no barrier in between). The X always fit perfectly.

It’s weird because the Max doesn’t look that much bigger in photos and side-by-side. That’s why I figured I’d be fine. But in-hand, it’s quite noticeably larger. Great screen, great phone, just too big for my one-handed use.

I am getting used to it but as soon as I held it wondered if I’d made a mistake.

It is about the same size as the Plus models of the past but with a much bigger screen and I find myself able to type in portrait mode without making mistakes in documents and emails.

Another plus is that the screen is good enough that I will probably retire my iPad as an extra travel device for watching movies.

I understand what you’re worried about because I have the same worries.

But I’m quickly getting used to it.

The only carry problem I can imagine is hiking with jeans. With normal business attire or normal shorts, it’s okay.

One handed is tricky. If you are adept at bringing the screen down, it will be okay but not as good as the X.

My truck, F150, has inserts in the cup holders (awesome idea) and I have to remove the insert for my 8+ to fit.

For perspective, my HydroFlask 40 oz. water bottle fits the same in this holder. Plus is definitely Plus.

Oh cool so you won’t have that problem then, lol. The Max is even a tiny bit smaller than the Plus. Very tiny bit but I noticed it in a comparison video last week.

Saw the Max today and it’s just wwwwaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too big!!

I actually picked up the XS first thinking it was the Max and thought this is alright, I can handle this! Then I saw the Max next to it lol! Yes XS for me. That Max is just a monster.

its like an iPhone 8 Plus except with screen all the way to top and bottom. Put simply if you're a 2 handed user, it's a no brainer to get the XS Max. I like it personally it's the iPhone X that ive been waiting for!!! big screen amazing battery life. no complaints so far.

also the camera is like ... idk how to describe amazing, as a dedicated photographer with a dedicated camera setup, i'm impressed with this years upgrades even though some say it's too expensive or too incremental. dont listen to them, they are downplaying the iPhone XS Max, you need to hear it through consumer average experience thats the only best way. Reviewers are kinda biased and i dont really like them.

I’m a two hand user of phones. I don’t get when ppl gripe about one handed use. To me it’s not that difficult to put your other hand on the phone. And use your other hand for certain things.
