I just tried everything i know (my german is a bit rusty right now). Siri understood me just fine. No problems manipulating music.

yeah, it simply does not work. i can't *mix* languages. i can't us a german command for playing an english named and pronounced artist: the german command "spiele etwas von 'the alpha snail'" results in "ich sehe nichts von "wieder fußnägel" in deiner musik" (roughly translates to "i can't see 'toenails again' in your music"). ridiculous!

how is it with you english speaking folks? how does siri behave when you try to play a french, spanish, italian or german named/pronounced artist? does it work?

I get it that YMMV, but these examples work 99.9% of the time just fine, even with headphones and walking in busy Manhattan traffic.

There is a lot of FUD in this thread.

By the way, the integration with Wolfram is fantastic.

tell your iphone right now to play a listzomania by phoenix.
then tell it to ask who stars in start trek II: wrath of khan

all legitimate requests...not some obscure request to try to trick it

Can Siri give me a foods nutrition values? No? Google can? Siri falls further and further behind.

They kept it off the iPhone 4 ?? I don't know why they limited it to 4S and 5.

I am still a bit flabbergasted that Maps doesn't provide turn-by-turn directions on the iPhone 4.
Google Maps does. It's not the hardware, the iPhone 4 is up to it... it was a seemingly arbitrary decision.

Yep, just like they kept Personal Hotspot off the iPad 2 when it could clearly do it. As an iPad 2 owner at the time, I was disgusted.

Just now i've tried all artistc (Daft Punk, Queen, The Killers, Imagine Dragons, Pink Floyd, 30 seconds to mars) i have on my iPhone and Siri understood all of them.

I used to like Siri until I tried Google's voice search in their latest iOS and Chrome (OSX) versions. It is so much faster than Siri and much more accurate. Apple/Nuance has a lot of catching up to do. Hopefully when iOS 7 comes out it will at least be on par.

In hope that you would prematurely upgrade your phone... I can think of no other reason.

That, and because let's face it, the 4s, just like the upcoming 5s, is nothing but a spec bump. They wanted to further distinguish between the two

As a 4s owner though, I'm skipping this s, and waiting for the iPhone 6.

Agreed. Even ignoring accuracy, Siri is incredibly slow when compared to Google, even when only considering dictation.

Minor updates, the fact remains Siri is mostly useless and FAR behind its primary competitor.

Neeeeexxt...

Far behind? Other than the voice, I find Siri to be far more useful than Google now; even if my use of it is limited to calling, texting, setting reminders and alarms, playing music and looking up nearby restaurants/theaters.

It's also important to distinguish whether we mean Google Now on iOS or on Android when we're discussing it.

Google Now is far more useful on Android than it is on iOS since it is integrated with the OS in a way that is not possible for a 3rd party on iOS.

Siri has horrible voice recognition and its features are really limited. Could be better, but not even useful. I turned it off right when I got my iPhone 5.
Try it again -- it's got noticeably better at recognising my voice since I first used it. (the voice interpretation is handled on Apple's servers, so as more people have used Siri, they've been able to incrementally improve it)

Great, Siri and iOS Maps will be able to direct me to a Chipotle in the middle of the Hudson river with my cars navigation.

I don't know.. You can prevent going towards water but when Google Maps takes me miles the other way I'm supposed to go, I do tend to be pissed.

99%? Maybe in the US, everywhere else its more realistically 40%. Quick example - I'm in North London, United Kingdom. I have an Asda Walmart about 5 miles away. Here's what Siri said just now:

Words fail me. How the hell did it decide that it wanted to look in Texas?!

At least you can TRY to search... :) Outside the largest markets Siri is even more useless. No directions or even simple map search at all - "Sorry, I can't look for places in Latvia". And, of course, you can forget about movies, restaurants and stuff like that. Plus it is super slow, especially compared to Google voice search.

er, yes, yes it can. ask siri how many calories a donut has and Wolfram returns a complete nutritional data card.

Ummmm... When I asked "Play a song by Justin Timberlake", Siri understood me perfectly-- even though I have no songs by Justin Timberlake. Perhaps you really did ask for Charleston Tim Malek?

And you have your Siri switched to German?

you would expect alt his time it would be "Out of beta"

Personally, this just gives Apple an excuse to "keep developing and improving features." If so, the it will never come out of beta, since it can never be perfect in all languages etc... :p

oh well... at least its gonna come to 10.9.. Lucky for me, i don't even use Siri, and never will.

If the letter M and N were far apart this would be funny.
Umm, thanks for your...whatever that was?

I wasn't making fun of you, I chuckled because I'm tired and the idea of a Google product that aids with napping was amusing to me.

I'm sorry you take things so very seriously.
