While I respect the programs NullRiver puts out their tech support really bites! I purchased the killer app "Tuner" from them and loved the shear amount of stations they had, even police scanners. They released an update that made it sound as if they did a better job with the app and true, it was easier to navigate but most of the stations where gone! Where a search for scanners had over 100 hits before there are now zero. At least the one station I bookmarked still works.

I emailed them and never heard back from them. I think they are saying if you are looking for support for what you paid for, look elsewhere.

Scanner station would be cool - can you provide the url?

I emailed them 2 times to see if they supported www.ksbj.org music stream. I wanted to know before I bought the program. No answer to either email. I take it that they either don't have the time to answer an email, or they don't support the station.

But if I can't get an answer when they stand to make a profit, I assume that I woudn't get answers after buying a program.

With the demand being created on this Forum alone due to the App being no longer available, Nullriver AND Apple would make a killing on sales just to place it back in the App Store for 1 day.

$59 for unlimited? Which provider?

Sprint. I too have a Air Card with Sprint that is $59 and is truely unlimited bandwidth. I have kept it connected for a week before and it just kept on holding it's connection. Good card. 3G (EVDO) is something Sprint does well with their broadband cards.

For those with the idea that you own your iPhone 3G: keep in mind the word subsidized. You don't own your phone outright until you have finished your two year contract or you pay the penalty for breaking contract or you purchased it at the unsubsidized price. Also keep in mind you signed something when joining ATT and agreed to follow their AUP.

If the CA Superior Court preliminary ruling does indeed become law, then cell phone companies can't charge for terminating the contract early.

Not so sure this is a good can of worms to be opening. The ETF is basically offsetting the subsidies we enjoy when purchasing phones, kiss the ETF clause goodbye and I'm thinking we wont see anymore subsidies. No offence, but a lot of people who opt for the free/cheap phones would be pissed when suddenly they have to pay 200-250 for a phone.

On topic, I have no idea whose fault it is for this app disappearing, but I'd like to see it come back sooner or later, especially when I do end up getting an iPhone. Even if I had it, I would wait for others to provide the results of their bills after running this program for a month. Plus, it would be really cool if AT&T could just include 1-2GB of tethering a month with all 3G data plans. Maybe AT&T will release their own tethering app.

I Got The App!!

Guys I was just able to buy the App from the iTunes Store by using a link from this RSS feed

feed://feeds.feedburner.com/RecentlyAddedIphoneApplications-PinchMedia

I clicked on the link and took me to the App Store and I bouth it, unfortunately my laptop is at home and until I get ther I won't be able to test it.

Good Luck to all.

Worked for me too, someone wrote on digg that it was back up too. When you search in iTunes though it yields no results.

Just downloaded it with no problems

I used the link on the main post and was able to purchase and download immediately. Haven't tried using it yet though.

Netshare on itune Canada

It seems that Netshare was put back online on the Canadian itunes store.

After a lot of try during the day with the famous "application unavailable" message, I was able to buy it 2PM.

I will try it shortly!

2. This whole thing is just some sort of mix up and the app just got pulled temporarily for some reason.

I'm leaning towards 2 since I can't imagine nobody at apple would have known what this app was for before releasing it.

All I can say is: Boolyah!!!!

For anyone interested in AT&T's feeling on Tethering.
"Furthermore, plans(unless specifically designated for tethering usage) cannot be used for any applications that tether the device (through use of, including without limitation, connection kits, other phone/PDA-to computer accessories, Bluetooth® or any other wireless technology) to Personal Computers (including without limitation, laptops), or other equipment for any purpose. " This was quoted directly from Prohibited and permissible uses section of the ATT website about data plans. http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/legal/plan-terms.jsp#data

Also, I have not be able to locate a tethering plan for the iPhone. So be warry that though the APP is up it could become something that gets you disconnected.

Netshare

I've installed it and followed the instructions for setting it up, to no avail. Has anyone installed this and gotten it working?

Namaste

Netshare

Thanks, I have the instructions.

Essentially, everything is setup correctly, but when I'm connected to the network, I get no wifi bars on top.

Like so. . .

Any suggestions as to what's going on here?

Let me start by saying my biggest pet peeve is "updates" that make no mention of features that have been removed. I HATE THAT.

FWIW, iTunes currently doesn't do a great job of "cleaning up" after you download updates. There's a good chance that in your ~/Music/iTunes/Mobile Applications folder, there's a Tuner.ipa. Tuner 1.ipa, Tuner 2.ipa, etc.

What I'd do in your case, is try to install an older version. Drag it into iTunes and overwrite the newer one. Use it. Bookmark the scanner streams you like.

Then, update to the newer version as usual and see if your new bookmarks, too, still work.

No guarantees this will work for you, or how long it's even a valid loophole. It's possible iTunes 7.7.1 fixed some of the "update mechanism" bugs, like this one.

But I just figured it was worth mentioning, in case you hadn't thought of it. It just might work.

Shame on Nullriver for not getting back to you, and worse, for "updating" the app and quietly removing features you enjoyed.

I'm in the UK, so I can tether :)

However, this app feels like it was made to stir controversy rather than be a proper release. Here are a few of my issues:

- Sometimes doesn't detect WiFi connection
- iPhone's power management sometimes disconnects the WiFi - the app should stop this happening
- Phone auto-locking can disable the app and your internet
- SOCKS limitation, unless you also buy the proxifier app. Nullriver should have created something similar, free for buyers of the iPhone app. At least it would help justify the price (but then again, someone needs to pay those inevitable legal fees)

This really isn't an 'it just works' app. If it were, it'd have a cleaner and more user-friendly interface and instructions, automatically configure the WiFi, and ensure that the connection is never killed by the iPhone's power management.

I really don't think tethering is going to be broadly adopted unless Apple do it themselves, or provide some APIs for ensuring quality.

That said, if you are able to work it out, it works as advertised. I'm downloading the 2.42 PS3 update (130MB) at 75-90kb/s, should take 20 minutes. And I'm also posting this.

HAI FIVE! Works fine here in the UK on O2, took about half an hour of fiddling to get working but it works very very well, only problem is that when the iPhone goes to sleep or home screen the app cannot run in the background, dropping the SOCKS connection.

what do you mean goes to sleep? and how much should we use?

he's referring to when your iphone locks, usually after 1 minute, u can go to setting and change it to never lock, but I don't know what affects that will have on a iphone, being on for so long straight...anyone have any input on that?
