This is great news, but at the same time, I feel sorry for those Mac Pro 6,1 owners.
Just wondering, would this somehow work with Macbook Pro-s, via the Razer-like system to connect a GPU? Is this what eGPU is or eGPU is something completely different?
Yes this could be used with a 2016 MacBook Pro in an external Thunderbolt 3 enclosure. A quick search came up with this one.

Sweet! It's really nice that we'll get drivers for Pascal GPUs, so hackintoshes can use GTX 10xx cards now. The community was getting worried that GTX 9xx was the last series we could use...

Really really excited for the new MacPros! Can't wait to see just how upgradeable they are GPU wise. If it's the right amount of flexibility of upgradablity, I might be able to dump my hackintosh for a properly powerful Mac again...

Ok, call me crazy, but who benefits here? I would REALLY love to be able to buy one for some CUDA GPU rendering... but if you have any mac currently available it's no good right? If I had an old Mac Pro then it would fit, but would it be compatible with the older system? So is this actually only good for Hackintosh users?

From the 9to5Mac Article:

"We have reached out to Nvidia for a statement about compatibility down the line with lesser 10-series cards, and I’m happy to report that Nvidia states that all Pascal-based GPUs will be Mac-enabled via upcoming drivers. This means that you will be able to use a GTX 1080, for instance, on a Mac system via an eGPU setup, or with a Hackintosh build. Exciting times, indeed."

Great for us Mac Pro users who already have the GTX 1080 for Windows! Now we'll be able to us it in macOS too!

i can't believe the good news we are receiving for the last couple of days...

This could be HUGE for upcoming Macs. Everyone always says "you can't game on a Mac". Well this would put that to rest, and it would incentivize more developers to create Mac titles as well. Awesome to see.

For this to be true, Apple would have to release the fabled xMac, a tower with a consumer grade CPU and a PCI slot. Mac Pros are workstation machines. They are really expensive and not designed for gaming in mind. Although they can do it, a new Mac Pro is not going to sell well enough to make the platform more attractive to developers.

Also, this is a workstation-class card, and insanely expensive. Although the good news is that with Pascal support, hackintosh users can now use 1070s and 1080s.

I don't think the price is very high compared to cards from the 90's and its capacity. Stop expecting commodity pricing on bleeding edge tech.

Or don't buy a Titan class. Gamers don't use this card becuase the performance per dollar isn't there. That's what the 1080 Ti at $700 to $800 is for. Not that you can't game on it, of course, but it's not the point of this card. You get a Titan class to power multiple 4K or an 8K monitor. I agree though, Linus @ LTT has even pointed out that the cost for GPU's are actually lower than they used to be.

This can likely be used for any current Mac using an external enclosure and TB connection. Will greatly increase the graphics performance of the new MacBook Pro. This is was more than what I need, but I look forward to seeing someone test it.

With drivers coming out for the entire line, it sounds like the current cards, such as the 1080, will not be able to work with Mac OSX

And then they'd have to come out with something that can match DX12 and Vulkan to make any game maker give any craps...

Built for 5-7 year old MacPros. No love for the TrashCan Pro since its incapable of receiving any love.

These GPU's pull about 250 W. The newest Mac Pro has a max of 450 W. So, not only is SLI not an option, it may not even be able to run a single card at max capacity.

Considering how old the tower Mac Pro that supports this card is, and how expensive the card is, I guess this makes more sense for a Hackintosh than a real Mac.

Pretty sure it will only run on a Hackintosh. Unless you have an older Mac Pro tower.

Does this make any sense at all with the 1080 Ti out?

The titan is if you use extreme resolutions and have little need for high FPS. But this also adds dirvers for the 10XX series, so now you could use the 1080 ti in theory. It wouldn't work before.

This is great news for Mac Pro users! Now this is progress and starting to look like we will have a real Hi-end Mac Pro moving forward. Fingers crossed!

Looks like it's time to replace the GTX 970 in my Hackintosh with some sort of Pascal card. Maybe 1080ti? Oh man, what a great week for the Mac
