NVIDIA Powered MacBooks on October 14th?

Still apple isnt going to kill off such a new product especially one of their signatures. Id expect an MBA "take 2" in a similar fashion to ATV.

They need to make it an Tablet-Laptop convertible and smaller (12") if they expect it to survive with the new MacBooks and MacBook Pros.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5F136 Safari/525.20)

Cool stuff...Can't wait for October 14th!

But that would make the only difference (between comparable GPUs) the way they're fastened to the motherboard? Still, I think that dedicated graphics' RAM matters most - faster access and more RAM for OS and apps.

The "more RAM" idea is kind of lame, with laptops and desktops (except Apple's) supporting 8 GiB of RAM today, and often shipping with 2 GiB to 4 GiB standard - giving 512 MiB to the graphics card isn't a performance problem.

Faster - yes. VRAM dedicated to the GPU can be quite a bit faster. For most apps, it's fine to have 64 MiB to 256 MiB dedicated - and let the GPU share system memory up to 2 GiB or so. "Big" graphics don't fail, they just aren't as fast.

The MBA is too large and heavy?? /hardon

The MacBook Cube Air is quite large. It is thin, but the other two dimensions are much bigger than typical small notebooks.

Agreed. The name "Pro" should be dropped... ;)

Agreed - since the notion of "professional" was dropped long ago. "Pro" means "metal" and is a status symbol, not an indication of the performance of an Apple system.

Right - what I wanted to say was "repaired twice in the first year of operation".

You mean "repaired twice in the first half year of operation"

well just reading the titles of the results of searching "macbook air sales" doesnt look promising.....

But if they do kill it due to the poor sales, then my "MacBook Cube Air" line becomes true. Another one of Jobs' obsessions that just doesn't make it in the market.

On the other hand, an MBA with a 10" screen would be a killer!

Hope they do get dedicated graphics, I was waiting for the next Macbook update just for the x4500, now this surfaces :D

Worldwide Release on Same Date?

If this is true what is the general opinion on worldwide releases of this macbook update? Do you think it will be available to us all on the 14th and not just the U.S? I'm <this close> to purchasing a white macbook this week... I don't know if I can wait even the next week only to be crushed that it's not available to me another few weeks! (or worse, it's still just a rumor) :apple:MacNichi:apple:

Wow - sir you are unbeatable. :)

But no I mean what I said - this is it's first year of operation and it's been repaired twice already. (Notice that I did not claim the first year was over yet.)

That weighs 1.8 lbs, with 3g, two usb ports, ethernet, and 10+ hr battery life.

Obviously, you're talking about the post-Jobs Apple.

The only question is if "post-Jobs" is this year, next year, or after a number of stagnant years.

(Notice how good Jobs looks in the avatar, vs. recent photos?)

By the way, did you mean "3g" to mean "3G cellular modem" or "3 GiB RAM". I assume RAM, since Apple has been conspicuously absent on the 3G modem support...

If MBP doesnt get ultimate update on October 14th, I go boom! lol Seriously it's been like 2 years that I want a laptop and Apple keeps making silly small pathetic updates that doesn't give anything.

I hope Apple will stun the whole world this time. ^^

But.. question like that.. why Apple always make announcements on Tuesday?

Yes I do mean 3g modem. I do not wish death on the man even though he is dying but it's time to see some innovation. So far its all about making purdy thin aluminum things.

Yup. I agree with this general sentiment. OS X is a great base. But let's start afresh with some hardware that performs and innovates, not hardware that just empties your pockets and looks good.

That's for sure - the recent Apple announcements have been "bridges to nowhere".

Your avatar is the most frightening thing that I have seen - one heartbeat from the presidency, and one functioning brain cell....

Well, I admit my avatar turns a lot of people off, but it does reflect my views. And I'll probably be the only person voting for her in Silicon Valley come November. :( But that's enough political discussion. While I feel very strongly about politics, I sometimes wonder if discussing them is always the best thing, seeing how it divides people who might be just fine otherwise. :(

As for the recent Apple mistakes, I agree something serious has happened with Apple. They have made some serious mistakes, and I see either some radical changes soon, or else a general downhill trend with the company. I have never seen so many people expressing valid and serious, yet reasonably-stated complaints about Apple. Things have definitely gone amiss as of late.

How are any of the features you listed innovative? Pushing the boundaries of thin is innovation, whether you want to buy that particular product or not. A new construction method for laptops (if the new MB rumors are to be believed) is innovation.

Apple has never been an "every feature under the sun" company. That's what the other guys do. Apple sets the bar on how products should look and operate, and other companies jump on Apple's bandwagon and add their own take. Look at the iPhone for example. Does it have every feature that you want? Nope, and it probably never will. But the concept of it is re-shaping the market.

You say "it's time to see some innovation", but it should really read "it's time to see the features I want." Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with wanting different/better features. It just sounds like you should be buying from a different company.

don't know why we haven't heard much about the MacBook pro. I cannot wait to see the new one. As soon as the AppleCare is out, it's finally time to get a new computer for me.

It is usually at the same time for countries that has an official apple store. If not, resellers can place order for the new mac products as soon as thee are announced.

Only iPhones seem to be the only apple product that has a country specific release time.

To me it seems Apple has done a better job of keeping things under the veil this time around. Either that or there is nothing going on, which I seriously doubt.

Agreed, Especially since it is the worlds thinnest laptop, Apple will just further improve it. also they spent so much money on advertising, even super-bowl ads, now they wont just jump off the boat.

People are still very interested in the Macbook Air, but whats killing sales is the price, with the current economy people are look for more value, and a macbook look to have more value then a macboook air to a consumer, so if the price is lowered to compensate for missing items (aka cd drive) im sure the product will sell great this holiday season. So im sure they will lower the price, and make some minor improvements if there a press conference on october 14th.

i cant wait... i am more anxious then waiting for the 3g iphones!

...hmmm probably not as much as the original iphone though! maybe nerdy but i love seeing whats the latest and greatest.. wether i get it or not!:):):D

1. Pushing the boundaries of thin? MBA is not even the thinnest notebook ever like Steve-o claimed
Back in the first years of the decade, Sharp released the Muramasas. Measuring 0.54 inch thick, the Actius MM10 Muramasa notebook,

2. When I say innovative I mean dust off those cool prototypes and patents and bring them to light. Also add extra features people want in innovative way. Sure you may think usb ports, 3g, etc is overrated and if someone wants those features they need to go somewhere else. But add all of that in a package that is .75" thick package. How would that not be innovation? Innovation would be pushing a product to its max potential. Look at the ipt 2g so much could have been done with instead it became thinner with buttons and a feature that very very few will every use. Wow? Now if it came out with a camera and a built-in mic that can be used for added gaming experience. WOW!

p.s I am fine with Apple and I do not need to go to another company since no other offers OSX ;)

And built-in fingerprint reader would be a really nice addition. All the cheap laptops have got them now. Apple could easily integrate this with "keychain".
