Ahh, how I wish I would wake up tomorrow and see new MBs in the Apple store :D oh well, 14th is only a week away

I think I'm gonna take enough meds to make me sleep till next Tuesday this wait is killing me!

Does this mean we could finally run Final Cut Studio on a MacBook????? Can anyone familiar with this hardware answer that for me? Thanks :)

Not that you can't run Final Cut Studio on the MacBook right now...

You can just fine?

If I'm not mistaken, I think rendering video relies more on the CPU than video card.... so you should be able to run final cut on a MacBook now. Plus Aplle offers final cut as an add on option with the MacBook right now... I doubt they would do this if the software doesn't run on the MacBook.

I could be completly wrong though... I don't do much (read as "none") video work.

Everything short of Motion. Do some research on it. :p

Guess I should have been more specific. I thought people new that you can NOT run Motion on MacBooks. So would we be able to run Motion on these new MacBooks??? Anyone have an idea?

If they have the nVidia why wouldn't you? As far as I know thats been the primary difference between the MB & the Pro in terms of graphic performance.

No way... almost nobody uses FW800, compared to Ethernet. Besides, Ethernet via USB is a great idea for the MacBook Air, where performance doesn't really matter. But for the current Gb-Ethernet it's a major (!) step back, performance-wise.

For what? Basic TCP/IP packet transfers? I sure as hell hope one uses Ethernet for what it was designed to do.

Firewire is being used more and more in critical control systems where Ethernet would be a fish out of water.

Sorry if someone already pointed this out, but Fudzilla did announce that it looks like NVidia will have a Nehalem chipset.

http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=613

NVIDIA is going to allow the Intel X58 chipset to natively support SLI graphics configurations.

Let me let that sink in.

No need for an nForce 200, no need for any special logic of any kind, no need for an NVIDIA product but the graphics cards themselves. Obviously this is GREAT news for the gamer - now we can finally get high quality motherboards that are reasonably priced and will run both NVIDIA SLI and AMD CrossFire GPU configurations. We are very excited about the idea of unifying our platform selections for the hardware leaderboard, for using a single motherboard for all our graphics card testing and just excited about what it means for high-end PC gaming in the big picture.

We should note that this SLI licensing arrangement will ONLY affect upcoming X58 motherboards - this will not be retroactive to motherboards using X48, X38 or any other chipset. Why? Because NVIDIA already offers SLI solutions for those processors and decided they wanted to maintain the control on that platform. The driver that supports SLI on X58 chipset motherboards that meet the certified criteria will be available in time for the Bloomfield/Nehalem processor launch in late fall / early winter. Expect to see reviews of the new Intel CPU using SLI technology as well.

But...it raised some interesting issues that needed to be addressed including the licensing of the SLI technology, the previously talked about "technical requirements" that required NVIDIA logic and much more. Read below for my thoughts.

Sorry, but Nvidia HAD NO CHOICE. They wanted Nehalem and Intel wanted SLI.

Here is the information from Intel on the X58 Chipset:

http://www.intel.com/technology/memory/ddr/valid/ddr3_1066_nonECC_results.htm

So far, I'm not seeing a single Motherboard Manufacturer offering this chipset. Simply put, it's not here and with Nvidia opening up it's SLI for it's only bartering chip makes it even more probable that Apple holding the cards of market growth and image most certainly isn't going to allow their solution to be dictated by Nvidia.

Apple was very clear about OpenCL and it's position to supplant CUDA and if Nvidia wants to leverage their CUDA model via their non-Apple drivers video cards for OS X machines then they'll have to become OpenCL compliant.

AMD/ATi got the one up with the announcement at SIGGRAPH 2008 by declaring their Streams technology moving to become OpenCL compliant ASAP. In other words, they are courting Apple to open up their entire portfolio of cards for Apple to leverage.

Apple will differentiate it's motherboards with their own home-grown, Intel blessed chipsets that work with Nehalem and future processors which will break OS X being run on generic clone hardware, give their machines a massive advantage in Parallel Programming and, eat their own dogfood of GrandCentral and OpenCL to it's fullest.

Apple will target those for the Mac Pro line first and foremost. How they move foward with Intel chipsets will be in the area of laptops and mac minis.

Might seem like a silly question but if there are invites, we are likely to see them go out later in the day on Tuesday right? No use getting upset at midnight if nothing?

correct. they, from what I've seen, don't go out until mid day at least.

it is so frustrating for me, because i'm in australia and have no idea what time it is in the US, i guess all i can do is keep refreshing sites fervently.

Out of Stock no more?

I was checking on three popular sites here in the UK (Comet, Currys and PC World) a couple of weeks ago and all macbooks (and pro's) bar the base model were out of stock. Now I have checked back and they are all in stock again.

Out of stock a couple of weeks ago suggested they were running their stock low and updates were imminent, but now it's not the case. Surely this isn't a good sign!
