When there is no event then i guess there won't be a huge update!

i mean it's a big deal to change the Mb into alu, so i think steve would make an event out of it!

hopefully there won't be an update on the mba otherwise i am going to hate me for my fast order :D

So what are you guys thinking:

1) Wait till Macworld. (Nooooo!)

2) Silent Introduction

3) Silent Introduction (because they haven't redesigned the case, just a speed bump etc)

4) November Introduction.
You forgot the 5th option.

5) Nothing at all

Let's hope that's not the case though!

Perhaps in 6 days we'll see the Apple front page with an apple-esque "Al" square from the periodic table, looks like this:

The new MacBook
apple_al13.jpg

Still getting greener. Now starting at $899.

Yea...I would think so too...but you can't really fill an hour presentation with "Look, its aluminum!"

Ha, that's what I was thinking. Unless there's some revolutionary new chipset or the "brick" manufacturing process, what would Jobsy do?

"Hey, see what we did there? It looks different. Now here's Jack Johnson again"

I'm thinking if we don't see them by early/mid November, it'll be MWSF or later (Feb. '09).

I just don't understand what's 'in' it for Apple, or consumers, to not update the lines in a year, when they traditionally update them ever 5-8 months.

Any chance you're a graphics designer? Looks just like something Apple would produce, very nice.

LOL. Yes I am (web design major), BUT I didn't make that. Not that I couldnt...but it's not my work. I actually don't have a computer right now, I sold my Mac Mini and am waiting to get a MacBook Pro. Thats why I'm here. :apple:

This computer at work wouldn't know what photoshop was if it bit it in the butt.

Cool, then I guess you've also been waiting since the summer when these rumours began. Oh well. When something finally shows up, it'll be so worth the wait, no matter what it is. I'm typing this on my dad's MacBook Air which is on indefinite loan to me (he's a reseller), but longing for a MBP.. this thing can't even handle 720p content.

I feel your pain. But I've only been waiting for 3 weeks now. I haven't been in the market until now because the university I'm transferring to requires a laptop.

Think about this... Normally Apple :apple: saves their BIG huge amazing updates for MacWorld... so if you think positive, if Apple :apple: saves their macbooks for release during MacWorld 09... then maybe they will have all the things that we are hoping for, along with a new design... and ect...

So while no one (including me) would want to wait... i think that if it DOES come to that (nooo please nooo!!!) then they will be all that better...

The other side to this is that Apple would NOT want to miss out on the Holiday market... and i'm sure that if you got your new Macbook on December 25th, and had new ones come out in January... you would be VERY VERY VERY pissed off...

So... looking at it this way there's a 50/50 chance that they will release new macbooks either during MacWorld 09... or before the Holidays!:D

Macworld is saved for an entire new product. Like a tablet!

I find your quote about Ivy League status symbols and daddy with lots of money extremely rude and condescending. I bought a MBP for my son who just started at UMASS Lowell majoring in Sound Recording Technology. He is not a "professional", at least not yet, but the MBP is essential for his future line of work. UMASS is not by any stretch of the imagination Ivy League, nor am I a rich daddy with lots of money to spend.

I work very hard for my money...I am a 3rd year History teacher in Florida (last in the nation in per-student spending!) where our teachers' union has been in a fight with the school board to get raises and step increases. I have 120 Special Ed students and I put in my all to get them educated and ready for the world; it is a daily struggle and my day does not end at 3PM. Next time, try thinking before you make remarks that belong in the trash.

Hmmm, I thought that the point of the Apple "1984" ad and "Think Differently" and the other stuff was to avoid being one of the mindless drones.

Guess not, anymore....

Also, ya gotta love all those "professionals" with their aluminium Apple Pros.... Nice Ivy League status symbols - daddy has lots of money.

But, at least they have taste. I don't see a single tacky white plastic Apple book in the room ;)

Macbook Air fits into a smaller niche then a tablet. More people would want a tablet then an Air.
Just for curiousity: are there any studies/surveys or so to support this?
Tons of artists and students want one.
But how many have actually tried one? Personally, I don't know anybody in person who is lusting after a tablet. I think the tablet "crowd" is a rather small but vocal clique of enthusiasts.

Crikey! I can't take it anymore.

Ok. so another long-time lurker who's been forced to post out of unbearable anticipation for the new MBs here.

I just got back from the technology center at the university bookstore and they have all Apple laptops on blowout sale -- White MBs starting at $799, Blackbooks for $1199. I asked the clerk if they were clearing out inventory in anticipation of a 'big new shipment' and he said that they were clearing out inventory, but that they had no idea when the new shipment might be coming.

He didn't even say it with a wink in his eye. Completely deadpan. I honestly believe he has no idea when the new shipment may be coming.

I've been waiting since last January -- I was ready to buy the new 'ultraportable', but was underwhelmed by the specs on the Air, so I decided to hold out for the new MBs...

I'm scared my 12" PB is going to give out any day now. argh!

Maybe you should ask him for a signal or a robot dance... :D

wow $799 for a new macbook, I would've called it good right there lol.

Seriously.

I had my wallet out and ready to go when I realized that if they released new ones next week I would hate myself.

I thought about the fact that I could just use it for 6 months and then sell it and get the new version, but I would've already used my academic discount for the year.

We only get 1 laptop on the academic discount, right?

Yes we do, but why would you worry about a discount and not about the devaluation on your laptop's price because of buying it new and a newer version coming out.

right.

I'd be doubly out of luck. Devalued, no new discount, and no new macbook.

So I'm waiting.

Still.

With credit card in hand.

Crikey -- I'm ready to boost the economy and spend some money. Sounds like if all of the people on this forum who are waiting like me all went out and bought a new macbook, the recession would be over
