Yes, but why?
There are probably good reasons for that.
What "case in point"? Just people sitting around with their notebooks. There is no reference to a tablet whatsoever. And why should they want to use an OS X tablet? Maybe they would want to buy one, but the great majority would not want to use them anymore after getting it. It is a really fundamental problem: text input on tablets is slow, tedious and error-prone. It's nowhere near the speed and easiness of mechanical keyboards. And Apple cannot change that overnight, as their current inkwell technology is way behind Vista's. So why would people want to use an OS X tablet rather than a Windows one?
And what are you going to do with a notebook which you cannot effectively type text on like on other keyboards? It's a suboptimal user experience even for basic internet browsing. A convertible maybe? Taking the same route as some PC tablet makers? Apple doesn't really offer convertible products. I believe it's against their design philosophy. That is also why the MacBook Air is the MacBook Air, and not some tablet, I'd say. If they could have pulled off a great tablet, they would have done it instead of releasing the Air.
Tablets are the most overrated potential Apple product nowadays.
