Well, is Apple hardware going to double in cost this year? If so, I can't really get the mac Studio I was hoping to get. :-(
As long as you aren't taking my 5080FE I don't care. :p

Seriously though, I dunno what Mac Studio pricing will look like, well aside from it going up in general. If you are trying to use a nvidia card for video stuffs (or LLMs) it seems like the 4090 is still a better buy than the 5080.

If I can find anything near MSRP. Feels like the 4090 is going to go up in value as the unofficial "5080 Ti"

Kicking myself for not getting a 4080 super in Nov/Dec. My analysis paralysis kept me from moving on anything and now I might very clearly pay for it.

And from the already posted GN “Paper Launch” video.

It would be nice to think, “Whatever, no one is going to pay those prices.” Although, it appears, a notable number of people have given into the $5,000+ pricing. I’m not trying to insist how individuals should spend their money. Unfortunately, giving in indeed condones these abusive behaviors. Basically, to anyone/everyone still seeking these items, I implore you to resist, wait.

[EDIT]
And the scalper comments are totally justified for this video:
Admittedly, I’m not sure how much it’s reasonable to blame MC. Again, these are just disgusting people that, I can assure you, confidently take every opportunity to be… piles of garbage.
[/EDIT]

P.S. Felt the need to vent a little. As a glass half-full, sunny disposition, etc kind of person, the display (both blatant and poorly veiled) of such entirely sefl-absorbed/selfish actions by individuals — that I have no problem referring to as piles of garbage — is frustratingly and somewhat disappointingly mentally exhausting.
P.P.S. There are other choice words I’d like to use, but I was mostly able to step back and self-edit before posting.

What I find the most annoying is that all the major retailers have basically stopped selling 4000 series cards; I wonder if the scalp patrol decided to buy up all of the old cards also.

The Trump tariffs are also going to increase prices.

Nvidia stopped producing the higher end cards a few months ago. I think only the 4060 (and maybe ti) is still being made.

They stopped high end Ada production months ago, then managed to just release a measly few hundred 5090's. The majority went to YouTube influencers 😡

Doesn't help that Asian manufacturing is shut down for several weeks due to Lunar New Year. The good, Xmas gifted Macbook Air got converted to 5090 FE and almost 5090 Suprim fund. The bad, it's collecting dust due to tight supply.

Indeed. Very sadly, it would seem like a decent/fair value to find a great/new condition 4090 anywhere near MSRP — including the ROG Strix OC RTX 4090’s $1,999 MSRP. But, yes, most RTX 4090s are selling way above value, many around $2,500. I also see recently sold eBay listings of RTX 3090s for $800 to $1,000.

And, no, I'm not paying $2,000 to $2,600 for an RTX 4090. I’m barely comfortable thinking about $1,999 + tax for a 5090.

5090FE's are going for roughly $4700 on StockX.

Hm. Interesting. Makes me think about selling my 4090...

What else would you buy/replace it with though?

I have x2 4090's that I've used every day since they day they were launched and now, close to 2 and half years later, they're now prob still worth what I paid for them - or even more now! Would be great to sell of course but there is nothing else worthwhile buying at present.

It really sucks there's zero news on a new Mac Studio M4 Ultra and impossible to buy a 5090 - or even 4090 new now leaving us power user/business users with nothing we can actually buy new.

Well, myy main workhorse is an M4 pro, so it would not hurt that much. I also have a 1080 Ti lying around somewhere.
I paid 1600 € back in July '23, making it a pretty good deal. The real question for me is: will the 5090 be available in fall at halfway reasonable prices? I suspect no, so I guess I'll keep the 4090; considering the 5090 power consumption the 4090 may be a better fit anyway.

My guess is the majority went to system integrators.

Remember what you see at MicroCenter or on Amazon is just a tiny "spot market" that does not get priority.
On top of that they also most likely diverted more top tier silicon to data center products.

As long as the demand by SIs and data centers exceeds or is close to the production numbers the spot market will remain scalper's heaven.

I hope the same doesn't happen for the 5070ti, which was I was thinking of to replace my 1080ti. Although I would have jumped on a 12GB 4070ti Gigabyte Aero if I could find one; but the prices are probably inflated anyway.

Lets hope AMD has an answer to resolve this nonsense.

According to GN’s research and guesstimates, not nearly as many as you may think.

“One of America's largest system integrators told us that it received a single unit of RTX 5090. It told us that later in the day, on launch day, it received another small shipment where it got some more. We can't say how many. Now another system integrator told us that it received exactly zero units. [...] Uh, the third one we spoke with received 20 RTX 5090s that it sold through in pre-built machines in three minutes."

Quite frankly, astonishingly, whatever you want to call it… The Tustin Micro Center seems like it actually had the most lump stock for the initial launch period. So, “yay” to those scalpers?

Crikey, the more I look into this mess, and what it would take to wait or put up with, I think I'm just going to wait for the M4 Mac Studio or the M5 Macbook Pros.

I found some ways to get ahold of the hardware I want, but from pre-built companies that put out garbage (crappy ram, crappy cooling, crappy motherboard, paired with a 9900x and a 4080 super? Gosh, can't wait). And why is everything rainbow vomit colored?

Also considering just getting a windows laptop if I need it for Cuda stuff. But still, rainbow colors and "The Fast and the Furious" street racing vibes... the windows world really is ugly.

I am very interested to see what the M4 Ultra Studio brings to the table and what gaming on Mac looks like by then. It might be the machine to finally get me to completely give up on windows.

I fear gaming on the mac just will not be great. I'm surprised they get some big name ports like Resident Evil and Death Stranding. They run well, but IMO if you want the best gaming, PC is the way to go (or steam OS).

I came SUPER close to ordering an HP omen system last night because of a coupon, but it expired. But now that I look at it, a 320 watt gpu and an intel CPU that runs at 120-250w, man that would have been one hot system. I'm just tired of it the heat and power. Plus 5090s are starting to melt 3rd party connectors again. I don't feel like PC gaming is in a great place, and thus, nVidia hardware I want for work is not either

PC gaming isn’t really in the best place right now. My favorite game of recent times performs so bad on my 4090 13900k setup - Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. It’s a stuttering mess. I get a smoother experience on the PS5 Pro. You think my hardware would blow away aPS5 Pro. And it isn’t just this one game. A lot of recent games perform horrible.

Upscaling and frame generation has ruined everything now.

Anything using UE is a stutterfest of shader compilation.
