So would Steve really allow an announcement of this magnitude to be made by anyone other than himself? (not counting the time he was out sick)
No, that's why it's called a leak.
Until Apple or Verizon makes an announcement, this means absolutely nothing.
Wrong, it means one of 2 things:
1) It doesn't happen - means the WSJ got bad information and reported on it anyway
2) It does happen - means the WSJ had a good source and got it right
It's all B.S. until Steve Jobs makes the announcement. He'll announce it and give you a date when you can buy it. Until then, vaporware.
I don't understand statements like "until Steve announces it...yada yada". Before Steve announces it, major things will be happening such as manufacturers ramping up production lines. You guys act like there's some vacuum that is suddenly and magically filled with an iPhone that came out of Steve's ***. Totally disregarding rumors is foolish.
Still nothing for T-Mobile?
Positive rumors for Verizon doesn't necessarily mean T-Mobile won't get anything. Consider it good news as it means the exclusivity agreement is definately over (if this happens) and T-Mobile would also be able to negotiate for an iPhone.
So iPhone 4 for Verizon in January
and
iPhone 5 for AT&T in June.
No thanks, I'll stick with AT&T.
A year ago it would have been an automatic switch for me. As of now AT&T has finally done enough to the network in Dallas to apease me for a bit. I won't be making a decision until I see what Verizon gets. A CDMA phone may not be enough to entice me...but an LTE iPhone might make me jump.
Agreed. This doesn't mean a bloody thing.
I'll laugh my arse off if
China Telecom gets the CDMA phones that Apple is rumoured to be making.
Quite honestly, this sounds like someone is miffed that another paper's "analyst" came up with a story before them, and are now posting a 'me too' article.
We'll wait and see, but I highly doubt this.
BL.
And I'll laugh my "arse" off when it turns out to be true.
Once again, this is no longer a rumor of a CDMA iPhone. This is rumor is specifically for a Verizon iPhone. The WSJ revised their story to be more specific on this point.
And this goes along with the other confirmations there have been so far... to nothing.
Name one time when the NYT confirmed a WSJ Verizon iPhone
I will never buy a Verizon iPhone. It's CDMA. YOU CANT USE IT IN ANY OTHER COUNTRY. It doesn't use SIM cards or anything like it!! Forget resale value. Forget international travel.
Verizon iPhone = useless America-centric brick
I used my CDMA phone just fine in China and Korea.
If next year means they will be including LTE then that's good it would be stupid nit too
Actually, based on Apple's history I'm going to guess that they won't. Primarily because the LTE chip won't be mature enough and may suck too much battery. Just a guess though.
OK. All of us here knows how secretive Apple is. There is no way anyone has inside information on Apple. We've been hearing about "inside information" on a Verizon iPhone for YEARS now. This is probably just another one of those fake leaks Apple is famous for.
I'd love a Verizon iPhone, and I think Apple wants nothing more than to have one (after all, that's the only reason they are losing market share to Android) but Apple needs to tell me officially before I believe it.
A totally new CDMA iPhone is a bit different than an upgraded GSM iPhone. A lot more people, new people, have to be involved in the development and testing of a new CDMA iPhone. Kind of like the original iPhone that was leaked before it was announced.
I don't know about that. Everything Apple has done in the last five years has made it's way onto this site well before release.
In November 2006,
two months before Jobs presented the first iPhone to a mostly sleeping world,
a tech magazine reported that Foxconn was beginning production:
"Foxconn Electronics, the world’s largest contract manufacturer of electronics equipment, will reportedly manufacture and ship 12 million of the so-called Apple iPhone devices, ..."
Nowadays, with the iPhone well known, and leaks all over, it's even more believable that such information would get out.
Exactly...this too.
I've never really bought into these rumors. But now that both the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times are reporting it's finally going to happen, it's hard to ignore.
Exactly what I'm thinking.
I'll believe it when i see it. Quite frankly, just because the WSJ or NYT say so doesn't make it probable. They said the same thing for the past 3 years. If it does come to verizon, ill be happy and sad in a way. Happy that Apple finally came to their senses, but sad because i won't be able to get it for another 2 years (2 yr contract w/verizon, just got a Droid X at the end of August, which i do love btw, but nothing is as good as the iPhone imo, the only thing stopping me was AT&T)
Do we need to count how many times SWJ has ran this story and been wrong? I'm sure they will get it right sooner or later then we can all bask in the glory of their astounding nearly prophetic reporting skills.
The difference this time is that the are repeating the same story they told back in March. Seems perhaps their source was finally valid. We'll see in January I guess.
Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)
The NYTs doesn't usually get behind something like this unless they're confident it's going to be a reality.
Not that it matters, if a bunch of people do suddenly leave AT&T then those that don't will receive the benefits of an upgraded network with fewer people using it.
Let Verizon deal with the iPhone traffic for a while and see how thu like it.
Read the story a few stories down. Verizon is already prepping their network. Besides, they've always handled more data than AT&T. I'd say they've always been more prepared than AT&T.
Are the mobile LTE chips in volume production yet?
If not, this will be a CDMA only device, with Verizon already deploying LTE in key markets next year.
This is what I'm thinking as well.
I was on the road this week with one of my Sales People who has a Verizon Incredible. Well, she was using the GPS, which worked really well, but when one of our peers called her asking for directions to where we were going, she was unable to put them on speaker and click over to the GPS app, because that can't be done on Verizon. So I had to break out my iPhone and remap everything to get the directions. Talk about a major fail!
The WSJ is talking out of it's ass. Apple will not be releasing a CDMA phone. The main reason is because of issues like I just explained up above. They do not want to have an iPhone on a carrier that does not work exactly the same as it does on their other carriers.
You fail to realize that the technology to resolve this is ready to go and Verizon could easily roll it out in time for an iPhone launch.
