if that was improv it would be one of the dumbest things I would of ever heard of in my life. seriously, people would stand outside in a line all day to get others to join thinking its improv? if thats the case...thats REALLY stupid

I don't see this. I just skimmed through the hole comment list. Link? Or quote?

Those are the only two Improv Everywhere members that posted. Both said it is not them.

I saw it on a story on Digg. Apparently I was wrong.

People!
Relax, I know what this is and it's not about the next iPhone.

It's just people lining up for the Windowashers of America National Konvention & Eastern Regional Seminars. They booked the store this evening to demonstrate new techniques & products for cleaning glass. If you want more info, just visit www.WANKERS.org and they have the entire schedule posted.

it's new york

It's New York... people wait in lines, for the lines, at McDonald's... no news here... move along.

The human tendency to consider everyone else a moron is really unfortunate and annoying.

These people are waiting in line for the current iPhone. Seeing how it's been out of stock in many places, it's not surprising that a massively busy store which now has them would get busy enough to form a line.

As for the customer quotes, if you walk up to someone and ask "are you waiting for the new iPhone?" they might reasonably say "I don't know... is there a new one?" I'm not sure what's so entertaining and scorn-worthy about people who don't read every damn rumor and don't know or care when and if the new iPhone is coming out.

This is so funny and couldn't have come at a more opportune time. I am taking a Mass Communication class right now (9 days, 3 credit hours FTW!) and we were just discussing the "War of the Worlds" broadcast back in 1938 and how many pundits claimed it was absolute proof that the media could control the minds of the general populace. We took a short break and of course I used the 'ol iPhone to surf here. Imagine my shock...I guess the more society has changed, the more it has stayed the same, no? :D

Yeah, totally, except for the part where this is neither mass hysteria, nor a mass hallucination, nor a frenzy, nor a case of the media controlling anyone's mind.

Way to go and get way too literal...

Didn't you see the :D at the end of my post?

Besides, what would you call the inevitable gaggle of dorks that will line up countrywide when the 3G iPhone is released? If that isn't media conditioning, I don't know what is.

Doesn't bother me. It's NYC, weird stuff always happens. Are you mad cause they got your hopes up? hahha

Really liked this post, and I agree with everything in it, thanks for that.

You made a comparison/connection to a non-existing event. I don't see how putting a smiley at the end of that adds anything.

Besides, what would you call the inevitable gaggle of dorks that will line up countrywide when the 3G iPhone is released? If that isn't media conditioning, I don't know what is.

I will call them rational people excited about a new product. Seriously, do you think those dorks on this forum are conditioned by the media to love and crave Apple products? What media, exactly? And how is this conditioning comparable to a patent lie broadcast as an emergency bulletin, causing panic and strife (Wells' broadcast)?

You're trying too hard to relate this to your class.

Have you not spent any time outside of the iPhone threads? The near chaos every Tuesday surrounding a potential Apple release (evidenced most recently by the MBP upgrades). It would be utterly comical if it weren't so sad. Is not advertising a part of media?

Don't get me wrong, I'm a techno-dork just like the rest, but I'm not going to stand in line, I don't care if the darn thing is made out of gold and being sold for $1.

I'm not trying to make this into something it isn't. I really could care less if people agree with me or not, I was simply making an observation and a potential connection.

C'est la vie

apple stock is actually down 3.86 points right now, but its not all that bad, wouldnt be a bad time to buy because we all know it could jump right back up once the iphone is put out.

I bought in when it was down to 118 recently. So, I've already made quite a bit off the current price.

I just want to put out there, having been a long time reader of many Mac fan/rumour sites, this is probably the best post I've ever seen.

Who needs new products?

Great Expectations

This makes for a barometer for measuring the frenzy which will erupt come June 9th. Great to see such unbridled anticipation and enthusiasm the second time around.
