After getting "No Service" for a while, my 3G came back and I ran a speedtest this morning:

Nice right? I'm glad we're paying $30 a month for this.

Call and complain and get bill credits.

42nd @ Grand Central

3G: 5 bars - 312 kbps
Edge: 5 bars - cannot connect

well, 3G is better than earlier this week, but now Edge doesn't work.

Anyone tried calling ATT and asking if any of their 3g Networks are being worked on or has anyone tried testing another 3G phone to try and single out whether it's a network or hardware issue?

I'm still using 2.0.1 but I'm only been experiencing these high latency and slow 3g speeds since this past weekend. I've been out to Madison, WI and Milwaukee, and seen speeds reach 800-900kbs.

Surely someone has called and pestered att?

3G has been so flaky and unresponsive for me in Boston that I've just switched over to edge completely...this is absurd that we pay for the service yet it's crippled...and not even like a courtesy service notice txt to at least assure users that the issue is being worked on.

Problem in CT too

Im having the same issue, except i live in CT, in the hartford area.

The obnly way i can connect to the app store, internet, or youtube is by turning off my 3g, otherwise it wont connect, phone calls work fine, along with mail and weather!

Its a very weird situation!!

past few days 3G was working great for me. Today it was terrible :/ i think i will call and complain later..

Within the last week i get the cannot access the cellular network almost 90% of the time on 3G with 5bars!!!!!!!

If a website loads up it goes 15x slower than edge...AT&T told me they acknowledged the problem but i wonder when it will be fixed.

I wish i still had my 2.5G iphone :(

South Jersey here, guess the problem goes beyond just NYC. Day 1 iPhone 3G, 2.0.1 firmware, everything was fine until a few days ago. Now about 95% of the websites I try to get on 3G just time out, speed tests (when they load) show around 35-45kbps. Glad to know others are having the issue, not glad that AT&T seems clueless about it...

Well, way down in the south here in Delaware ;) we most certainly had a horrible day yesterday. Today is much better. It has been strange. From when I purchased it (week after launch) to last week, 3g was consistently 300-500kbps for me. All of a sudden on Monday it shot up to 1.2Mbps and I had 2 days of that. then yesterday, nothing. Today we're back to the 500kbps. I think AT&T must be working on the network.

I work in the city. I have been experiencing the same issues and worse. The last week and a half I've pretty much had to use edge to access the web in my iPhone as 3G loads incredibly slow or not at all!

Anything related also is not functioning. Weather and stocks updates, email access and app store are either ridiculously slow or are simply not updating at all. Also, I keep losing all signals entirely. At least twice a day I will not have ANY signal at all, edge or 3G, and I receive a message saying I'm not connected to the cellular network. I usually have to restart the phone a couple of times to regain service and then it's usually edge only.

Gonna visit my apple store Friday and see about swapping out my iPhone seeing as how I'm in the 2% of affected users. Also, my mobile me is not consistantly pushing emails any longer.

Not sure what happened, my phone worked flawlessly the first 2 weeks!

God d*mn this happened to me too

just spent the last 4 days in manhattan and 3G data NEVER worked the entire time i was there. edge data only worked about half the time too. I feel awful because I finally talked my girlfriend into getting a 3G iphone and 3G has never worked for her, even though we live in a supposed 3G area. Then we go to NY and I'm like, "of all places, it will definitely work in manhattan, it should be very fast there." and sure enough, i end up looking like an ass cause 3G was worthless the entire time. like many others have said.... "$30 a month for this?"

God d*mn this happened to me too

FWIW I had the EXACT same issue. I did three things today and I'm doing tremendously better.

1.) I complained to AT&T and spoke to a rep. After the rep told me to "take your battery out and do a hard reset" after I told him 5 times I have an iPhone, I asked for his manager. The manager apologized (amazing in itself) and did a software push to my phone.

2.) I had apple replace my initial 3G phone

3.) I got a new SIM card from AT&T since I've had the same one since my initial iPhone.

I don't know which of the above did it but I'm moving tremendously better today. Better reception, I haven't dropped a call since I did this, and I'm not getting those 302 errors. My guess is that it was the push AT&T did. I'm use to Verizon where they have the *228 option to update your phone. Apparently (at least according to the manager) when you pull the battery out of a phone and put it back in, it does a search for new "software". If you can't pull out the battery for the iPhone you can't update. I'd suggest calling AT&T and asking for the "data push".

Thanks for starting this thread.

I was going to buy one of these but since the issues seem like more hassle than they are worth, I'll stick with my phone for now.

Not worth frustrating myself while paying close to $80/month for wireless service.

It's funny that they're charging you more per month for the data and at times it's completely useless.

The problem contiunes. I live in Queens and work in the Bronx. 3G won't load a thing. Weather manages to update slowly but Safari won't load anything.

I used to be able to stream using Pandora while driving all the way to work (using 3G). WHAT HAPPENED? I did a complete restore yesturday. Is the problem 2.0.2 or AT&T?

thursday issues

I think something funky was going on with ATT yesterday (Thursday).
I'm in downtown Manhattan (near J&R) and never had 3G issues even after doing the two updates. But yesterday I wanted to throw the iphone out the window. I was waiting close to a minute just to read e-mail. And getting on youtube was just a dream.

Back in the office this morning everything seems to be back to normal, youtube video's are loading fairly quickly.

Anyone else who had issues yesterday notice today is better?

I am heading up to NYC today from DC. I get around 900+ kbps down here in DC, I'll run a speedtest when I arrive to compare the results.

In Central NJ I'm still having huge 3G problems. I get 5 bars of 3G, but can't even load a website or check my mail. WTF is going on?

AT&T must be under some system constraints on top of whatever Apple issues there are because during the day my 3G service sucks...but at night (in the city still) it works better (not great..but better)

do any of you guys have data roaming enabled on your iphone?

I used to have it enabled but i turned it off and it seems to work a bit better now that it's off...maybe not snooping around looking for other non existent networks i guess.

I used to enable it for edge since t-mobile has edge networks as well...but with 3G it's probably a different story.

my EDGE service was noticeably better today (Friday) during my commute from Central NJ to Jersey City. Jersey City is still a dead zone though - I think there are probably no towers here.

live in hoboken, work in midtown. on both edge and 3g, takes several minutes to load any page, when it even ends up loading. sometimes it just hangs forever.

should have stuck with my 1st gen iphone.

Oddly enough, since last evening, I have not had a hang up yet.. i'll keep my fingers crossed and hope I didn't jinx myself. Data speed at night in Queens range from 600kbps to 1.3 Mbps, while here in the financial district during this morning, ranged from 300 -600 kbps. Maybe AT&T's network is slowly getting fix somehow.....

Currently i can't connect to 3g in midtown.
tried to do a speed test however it didn't able to send data.

I'll call today to ask for credit.
