i've been having all of these issues over over a week or two now in the DC area. Today i've had enough and am flipping on edge until this clusterf!_!ck gets sorted out.

full bars 3G, websites are slow as molassass. Full bars 3G constantly flipping between full bard edge. The final straw was an hour ago, when i felt that my iphone was getting hot in my pocket. I noticed i was suddenly down a quarter battery life, and I pulled up mail to find the "connecting" message spinning...checked my usage stats, and all of a sudden has usage tracked from the past 45 minutes! So for at least that long it was sucking on the 3G connection and didn't download any mail!

I've noticed too that with 3G on, my push email work work intermittently. Now that edge is on fulltime, i'm getting. Nice to see the extra features we're paying for have ***** the bed.

Ok, I called the at&t CS today about the issue, lady told me it's a software issue and asked me if I updated the firmware, bla bla.....then she checked the network status and told me she sees 3 servers down in my area, but changed her mind after that and advised me to replace the phones :) Guess what! An Apple rep. on the other line jumped into the conversation(she was listening the conversation whole time ! She told the rep, I was not the only one who is having this problem. And started arguing each other, finally ATT rep asked me to let the apple rep close the conversation. I didn't want her to but had no choice, And when she hung up she started to say that it is definitely a software issue and told me to go and replace the phone. I got mad and asked for her manager, she transfered me to the managers mailbox!! I left a message but no calls yet.

BTW I am having this issue on both iphones that are under my account. It is so obvious that AT&T networks can't keep up with all the demand but doesn't admit it. They didn't credited anything back either.

Why is Apple so insistent that 2.0.2 will fix it when it obviously doesn't work for many people? What I am afraid of is that 2.0.2 is gonna be it and there's nothing else.

Same stuff, another day:

I have 2.0.1 and my girlfriend has 2.0.2. I keep grabbing her phone and comparing. Same. She hasn't had any problems with her phone. She updated her new phone before she read my email not to. I'm still hesitant to update. I'll be in NYC tomorrow and will do more tests then.

TrunksGoku, where are you at?? Wow! I see that you're not on AT&T though...

I'm on AT&T I just changed the carrier logo. I'm in boston. Those test results are from when I'm just in my room. When I start walkin around the numbers aren't so high.

I'm in NYC right now, indoors and on 3g and have 3 bars. On the way over here I had 5 bars of service and got 993 Kbps in a speed test.

I am very impressd with the 3g speeds here.

However I may be a strange case as yesterday j made a thread about my iPhone having unusually good service and hqvjbg literally NO problems. This speed is a testament to that.

Where in NYC? I'm starting to believe that it just be our iPhones. So many people here w/ it, you'd think it'd be a bigger deal if everyone else is having problems too...

Great to know, in the NYC 3G thread.

As of 6pm today 3g data downtown looks to be back out.

My phone would not connect online whatsoever the entire walk from:

14th between 1st and Ave A, to 17th and Park Ave, to 17th and 5th Ave, down 5th Ave to 9th street, across 9th street over to 6th, then down to Waverly, across to 7th, and down to Bedford.

I'm now in my house and i get 34Kb/sec on 3g data (with 5 full bars). Note, I had 5 full bars on 3g network the entire walk and NO online app would connect - safari, google, speedtest.

48th and 6th when I posted that.

Speeds were fantastic all over the city though - I was using Pandora and making calls and browsing the web, no call dropped and awesome speeds.

I then left the city and went about 45 minutes away and I had 2 to 4 bars of 3G and fantastic speeds.

No dropped calls. No bad service. Awesome phone.

I live in that hood and walked all around the same area today. I had mostly very good speeds. When I did lose connection, I toggled airplane mode and was back in business. Did you try that?

I find toggling works. Which makes me wonder if it may be a software issue.
My newest problem is email. Half the time i need to restart the phone to get my email. I can accept app issues, since it's all new but when Apple's e-mail bugs on me, it makes me more frustrated.

I was walking today between Union Square and Canal street and had 3G coverage. Between 4-5 bars. Safari loaded quickly. Compared my 2.0.1 FW to my girlfriends 2.0.2 and they were the same.

Edit: Just remembered...if i checked 3G while in a store, it was either on Edge or a half bar 3G.

I decided to bite the bullet and do a full restore to 2.0.2 with no backup carryover and it seems to have improved reception. But speeds can still be total crap and I've never gone past ~450kbps using iNetworkTest. Bleh.

I'm waiting anxiously for 2.1... all this mess started w/ 2.0.2. Maybe it's not optimized for us in heavily populated cities...

OK at least some of the mainstream media is starting to look into the (non)effect of 2.0.2. The video shows issues in major US cities...including NYC.

Thanks for this LINK!!!
Next time I am at the Apple store I am getting my phone replaced. This thing is ridiculous. I have dropped my last conversation 4 times in a row.

I am updated etc.
I think maybe I am in the very very large 2% of users who hate the d*mn 3G connectivity of this thing.

I live in the Bronx and all day today I couldn't connect to the Internet with 3G on. I'm giving AT&T another call tomorrow for some credit. I should be able to at least connect to the Internet.

I am starting to believe it is a real network issue because when I called they said it was a known problem but no timetable of a resoultion. I will post what they say tomorrow morning
