Well who knows the order they are being processed in or how they are being processed. I doubt it is one person sitting there with them all in chronological order.... .

Probably not but seeing as they kept going on about 'first come first served' it seems pretty unfair that my order, successfully placed at 1.40pm, has had no response whereas someone elses 20 minutes later looks guaranteed.

Sure, I'll queue up on Friday if necessary but surely after Monday's cock-up they could do the manual match-ups in the order they were received?

Oh well, back to waiting....

I also got a confirmation from the failover screen, and today received two emails saying the order has been processed. Also I can now see the order in the track my orders section of My O2 site. Good news!

Just to let you know I placed the order on failover at 4pm I think. Though I had been trying all day from 9am.

camsoft, out of interest, when did you get your initial 'successful' screen on the failover page?

I have my 16Gb iPhone ordered via the Failover page now in My Orders part of MyO2. No emails, but thankfully it has gone through!

Thanks for emailing us and I'm sorry you had problems upgrading to the iPhone 3G.

Due to extremely high levels of demand, the O2 online shop was temporarily unavailable and this might be the reason you were receiving the 'Failover' page.

Please be assured that this issue has already been resolved and it's now working fine. I'm sorry but we're unable to confirm you at the moment whether your order was successful. We're working as fast as we can to deal with the high volumes of upgrade requests we received. We're processing all requests and will be in touch with you by text or email by today afternoon. We'll then be able to confirm whether your order has been successfully received.

Please note that the new iPhone 3G is currently out of stock. There are more supplies on their way and were confident that everyone who wants an iPhone can get one this summer. If your order hasn't been placed successfully, please check the online shop on 10 July 2008 to find out if it's back in stock. You can also visit your nearest O2 store to place an order for your iPhone 3G on 11 July 2008 from 8:02am. With your registered postcode (XXX XXX), I've found that your nearest O2 store is at:

XXXXXX

If this is your nearest O2 store, you can contact them on 02072 XXX XXX. Calls are charged at 20p per minute from an O2 Pay Monthly mobile.

You can find your nearest O2 store by calling 0800 224 477 free from your O2 Pay Monthly mobile phone or by clicking on the link below:

Interestingly - once they showed "out of stock" and redirected everything to the "please come back friday" page I put the URl for the failover form directly into firefox and for the last time filled it out, now i just got my first email from o2 to say it's in process.

Now got my second email... so it seems it has almost NOTHING to do with time as I only got the failover page to work once everything was closed down and out of stock.

Just rang and the lady there was very helpful, my iphone atm is showing out of stock and she said that I won't be getting it on friday . She said they are getting 13,000 orders per second.:eek::eek::eek::eek:

Also she told me that there will be more info on stock levels tomorrow on the website.

:(

yep- got the failover 'thankyou for your order' page around 1.30pm on the 7th (just before the message on o2s homepage stating they were out of stock came up..) didnt think anything was actually going to come of it..but received an email with an order number trackable on the my orders in 'my o2', at 12.30 today- though i have no idea on delivery times and no details in the email..probably 2 weeks or so when o2 get some more in but you never know, could be friday. hope others managed to succeed with the upgrade this way.
To be honest i dont know why i bother- considering in a month or two they'll get rid of 8gb, make 16gb standard for free on a vaguely sensible tariff (£35) and bring out the 32gb for £59. Just to have a slightly better shinier toy we'll be bored with in a month when the glossy black back is scratched to sh*t- then back to the forums for news of the next one. (slaps himself)

I am wondering if the orders that we think went through on the failover page were not orders we thought failed earlier in the morning. I received confirmation through the failover at about 2 but have received all 3 emails.

That said I did get through to added debit card details etc at 8.30am and the order crashed, I am wondering if that order actually did go through.

Who knows, not O2 that is for sure.

David

we understand and would hate you too if the situation was reversed.

good luck hope you get one on Friday

Me too, though I can imagine getting home after getting one from an o2 store and having the DHL man turn up!

I filled out the fail over page around 2pm on Monday, I got the message saying my order would be processed, but when I phone O2 later that day they had no record of this or my order. So I gave up.

But

At 11.30 today I got an email from O2

Dear

Snap. Got this to at around 11. Dont think ill get it by Friday tho. So i may still go to a store and get one then cancel this one..

The thing that worries me is this: I want my iPhone on Friday.

If my failover order goes through but they're not going to deliver until next week or next month or whenever, does the fact that my account will have been flagged as 'already upgraded' mean that I wont then be able to go to a store on Friday morning and upgrade?

I think I'm going to call and find out...

That 13,000 orders per second thing is an anagram of shullbit. o2 dropped the ball big time on this and they're throwing out ridiculous numbers to try and justify their site going down.

Also she told me that there will be more info on stock levels tomorrow on the website.

I was told on Tuesday that the preorders were taken for the initial allocation which they have in warehouses now, but they would get further stock on Thursday, which would again be first come first serve on the website.

They've made a royal balls up with this. First off, why do you need a code when you could just order from 'my o2'? Secondly, why go against Apple's wishes and allow new customers to activate at home?!

I filled out the failover form and got an order confirmation today but I have no idea if that means I will get a phone on Friday or in a week...? After all my order was placed AFTER the site was out of phones (in respect of the manual input of the order today as opposed to automatic confimation on monday).

Unless of course each submitted failover form counted as a "phone order" but seeing as there was no confirmation of any kind I find that hard to believe!

I don't think calling o2 will help answer the question about if we will get it on Friday as they don't have stock of any phones yet so they can't answer.

We will discover if our phones are shipped tommorrow and if they are not then we won't get them for Friday.

Also remember that the o2 page says there will be more information tommorrow about online orders which I found a bit strange so it may simply depend on the stock they get in.

However if my phone is not sent out tommorrow I will queue in store on Friday morning and get them to cancel the online order and give me my upgrade in the shop but it is a useful fallback to have in case the shops don't have the right phones or some other issues arise!

Bit of a warning about that.

If an order from Monday has gone through as an upgrade - you'll be unable to upgrade in store unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the time you want to upgrade. Make sure you keep an eye on your order page today/tomorrow and make a decision about which you want to do.

Ah cool, I didn't know that, thanks! I guess if I do get all the way to the store and they say that one is on the way (eventually), I can live with that.

That's exactly my concern and, what do you know, I've just spoken to someone at O2 who said I could still upgrade in store despite having one on an online order.

They don't know their a*** from their elbow really do they?

Cancelling an online order after 8.02am tomorrow will be too late for me then yet O2 are saying I'll be told by Wednesday afternoon (whenever exactly that is) whether I have one or not. So I have a window of a few hours to cancel it if I want to get one in store, which isn't guaranteed because of limited stock....Argh!!!!!!!
