johnwin - you will get your phone on friday - don't worry.

It won't be complete until the phone is sent and the phone can't be sent till they have in on Thursday!

I meanwhile don't have a clue what is happening with my order and spent 7 hours unsuccessful on the proper order site.

I'm not so sure. Rang them twice this afternoon - first CS rep said they are out of stock and I won't get one 'this week'

Second rep said they think they were out of stock by the time I ordered (9:28am yesterday) but they are not sure: 1. How any phones apple will be sending & 2. How many orders they have taken.

He *thought* I might get one on Friday, possibly Saturday.

At this point they had don the credit check etc but not taken the visa payment.

Ho ummmm

The official o2 forum has stories of people getting charged (mostly from current accounts I think) and then having their order status changed to 'cancelled'

I thought it was illegal to charge before shipping!

The cancellation might be due to credit check issues, or because the order has not been accepted for other reasons. I've seen this happen on normal phone orders before now...

I think the cancelled orders are down to other reasons and you should not worry.

I seriously doubt they ran out of phones by 9.30am but kept saying there was stock until 3.30pm!

I actually would give anything to be in your position of not having to get up at 7am on Friday for a phone!

So really stop panicking and find something useful to do!

Just comeback form CarPhoneWarehouse at Meadowhall UK. When asked about the Pay-as-You-Go, the young lady, after checking with someone else said: "from December; Cost about £500.00 we think!".

Yeah, this from the school of pulling figures out of your ass. There was some wording on O2's pages (which was later pulled) which gave the PAYG handset prices for the iPhone 3G to be in the same region of the prices of the 'old' iPhone.

no entierly sure if anyone else has posted about this yet but im so excited i just need to post this....

that page actually worked!!!!!!

well we must give some credit to o2 then that that page did actually work well as a backup when the original one crashed so badly.

as i said tomorrow i will call to find out when my phone will get to me, if its going to be after friday then i'll just cancel the order and go get one in store!

Can anyone confirm that you will be able to order an iphone on the lower tariffs and not have to sign a contract in store?

Some people were saying they didnt have to sign a contract when they ordered, and they were informed that they had to do this via itunes. If this is correct then you can get a very cheap iphone for £99 instead of £299.

yes i forgot about that, when you activate it though itunes you will have to select existing customer so that they then know that the contract has been transfered

I got an e-mail today from o2 confirming my upgrade from the failover form went through as well! (which is a miracle if you ask me).

It is in progress like everyone elses - however it is a real issue as to if there is stock left for me to get my upgrade on Friday un-like those who got a confirmed order immediately as if there was no stock after 6 hours then after a day and a bit I am even less likely to get one for launch!

On the good side if I am getting the phone (like everyone else here) then the phones have to be posted tommorrow - so if I don't get delivery confirmation I will go to o2 on Friday and upgrade in store (and I assume cancel the online order).

I won't cancel it before I go for 2 reasons - first of all maybe o2 can't handle cancelling orders online with the iPhone without messing it up considering the demand situation this week and secondly I see no reason why they can't cancel it instore and give me a phone if it comes to that. Also just in case there are no phones available in store that I want I wouldn't want to cancel it.

Lets face it this is at worst case a fallback order and at best case a chance to get the phone in the post on Friday.

I got the following email from o2 this morning in response to a query I entered via the online tech support. I asked if I would get a phone on Friday:

Hello John,

Thanks for emailing us about your order (on-00xxxxxxx).

Your order for the 16Gb iPhone 3G has passed the necessary credit checks. The iPhone 3G will be in stock on 11 July 2008. Your order will be completed on a priority basis and this is why I'm unable to tell if you'll receive your order on 11 July 2008.

Please reply to this email on or after 11 July 2008 to discuss the status and delivery of your order.

Please visit our website using the link www.o2.co.uk/iphone for the most up to date information on iPhone.

Important - When you email us please provide: your date of birth, postcode and mobile number as it helps us answer your query faster.

Kind regards,

Sushil Sharma
O2 Customer Service.

Getting your query right the first time you email us is very important to us. If your query has not been resolved this time, please reply to this email with the words 'Need More Help' in the subject field.

Telefónica O2 UK Limited, Registered in England No 1743099. Registered Office: 260 Bath Road, Slough, Berkshire SL1 4DX.

Totally useless. So they will not get the stock until the 11th? Will anyone receive a phone on the 11th then? They need them on the 10th latest to be able to ship them overnight!

And they basically say 'don't bother us until the 11th you t*sser'

Not happy.

!!!On a more positive note this is the 1,000th post on this thread!!!

There does seem to be a difference in the responses from whoever deals with your enquiry!

I emailed o2 about my order and got a reply saying they can't confirm delivery date which I wasn't happy about. I rang 2302 and spoke to a lovely man called Stuart who was very understanding, looked into the order and said it would definitely be with me on Friday.

He also said that EVERYONE who has placed an order, with or without a confirmation number, will receive an email and text before 10am tomorrow giving them the status of the order and a confirmed delivery date.

Hi,

It’s Nicola from the O2 Press Office.

I just wanted to make sure you guys have the correct information - the iPhone 3G will be available on Pay & Go in time for the Christmas shopping season, not this Friday 11th July, and we will provide more precise details closer to this time.

I am sorry that our customer service adviser got it wrong and we have issued a clear brief to make sure all our customer service advisers have the correct information.

Check our website out for further information o2.co.uk/iphone if you have any further questions.

Thanks,

Nicola

Nicola, if you are who you say you are... Do you know a Mr M Palmer at O2 if you do please tell us what role he has within the company.

I deal directly with O2 on a daily basis and (no offence) I have never heard of a Nicola in the press office.

Thanks God, you're here.... I was nearly taken in

Hmmm... I'm pretty sure my online shinanigans on Monday morning were all to no avail but I did manage to fill out several of the 'failover' forms, including my debit card/account details. I'm pretty sure they all crashed when I sent them (got a page of text rubbish after pressing send on Firefox 3.0 Windows XP version).

I'll be pissed now if I get a confirmation saying that I did manage to order one and it'll be delivered in 2 weeks!

I am sure that those of you who got order confirmations on monday and succesfully completed the "real" order page will get your phones on Friday.

I filled out the failover form and got an order confirmation today but I have no idea if that means I will get a phone on Friday or in a week...? After all my order was placed AFTER the site was out of phones.

Unless of course each submitted failover form counted as a "phone order" but seeing as there was no confirmation of any kind I find that hard to believe!

more o2 amusement - just phoned the local o2 store to find out what time they were opening (it's in a shopping mall) and they said

"sorry, i can't tell you, it's a secret"

i'm not kidding - a secret.

geeze

Who actually knows though? I have spoken to O2 four times now. It's 2-2: two of them have said either I won't get it on Friday, or may not get it for a few weeks. The other two have said I am "one of the lucky ones" and there's a counter against my order, meaning it should be dispatched late on Thursday. I've totally given up wondering, and fortunately work in a job which takes over my life more than most, so I don't have time to wonder. Other than days off like today...

My order still says in progress and I have not yet had any emails since the one asking for confirmation of ID and address, however, when I click on my order
number in the O2 order details page on their website I can see a DHL consignment number and dispatch date.

:)
