I arrived at the o2 store in macclesfield (as its close to work) at 8.00 and ran up the hill to be one of the first in the que, but there was a big que about 30 people deep - an o2 rep came out to show the phone around and chat to people, he couldnt tell us how many phones they had, and they were getting through about 3 people in 30 mins, so not to fast, and i was like 26th in the que.

im now sat at my desk gutted looking at pics of other peoples new phones :(

im going to ring them later to see if there is any left, and when the next delivery is coming in - thier website has now changed saying they will be getting deliveries weekly, im on holiday as of next fri and i really want one before then!!

the search is on to find somewhere i can upgrade! buggers .....

still sat at the terminal at the apple store
one 1 person has left since they opened the store at 8am

I was 6th in the queue at the Gallowtree Gate O2 store in Leicester, and due to the system dying I had to do the 'contingency' (essentially a paper form that, I assume, they put through the system when world+dog aren't trying to do it at the same time).

Some info about the amount in stores: the amount they received is tied to how well they performed at the first launch. At this store they received just ten (one-zero) 16GB models (not sure how many 8GBs, but was told that if everyone in the queue wanted 8GBs they'd be sorted. Guessing around 30/40 maybe.)

At home with my new 16GB iPhone :)D), so getting up at 4am & walking the 5 miles into Leicester certainly paid off.

[EDIT]

I was the second (I think) person to leave with an iPhone this morning. Think one or two people in front of me failed the credit check, or got refused for some reason. I was in the first batch allowed in, and left about 8:50 (I think, can't remember exactly).

Cpw R F****n Crap

jus queued for 1hr+ at cpw, was about 6th inline, when got to counter they asked what i wanted , told em 16gb upgrade.. they spent half hour trying to find me on the system [even though i got from them 9mths ago], then told me they didnt have the 16gb in stock, would have to order it in, "guaranteed by wednesday", we all know that aint likely!!

so a complete waste of time, idiots!

now sod it, i wait few wks til this crazymania dies down..

apple, wheres the new firmware?!! att least new apps mite keep me content a while..

I'm sitting in CPW in Crouch End waiting for my upgrade to go through. O2 have really ballsed this up. I've been here for about an hour!

They only had 4 16gbs in store, but supposedly one of those is mine. Well, as long as the upgrade goes through.

I will definitely be writing to o2 about this. Very disappointing.

The staff in CPW seem quite competent, for once.

Just got back from the O2 store in Walsall, which is a small shop but when I got there, there was about 15 people standing in line. There were only about 5 16GB phones which was a little disappointing, but I've been surviving on 8GB just fine. They said they didn't know when they'd be getting more stock in on the 16GB, and if you wanted one to call them on each morning and they'd let you know whether there was any available.

But no, I'm sitting happy with my new 8GB phone, so it's a good day so far :D

Yeah - Sounds like there is generally a very low stock level.
In terms of actual stock replenishes - if my local local store is anything to go by - O2 is giving the store managers NO IDEA of what's coming to them - e.g. the store I went to got 4x 16GB in total. They normally have a start of week and end of week general delivery
- they had no idea how nor when, nor how many, nor what sort of handsets would be coming. Not a flipping bean between them.

total contingency plan - getting all the details down for those who wanted a phone, some contracts signed up, and about 20 customers sorted, out of about 30-40. A fair few people who wanted 16GB went with 8GB.

O2 rep basically said you couldn't go for a 8GB then turn it back within 14 days, and ask for a 16GB, which some people wanted to do.

Shambles, and more importantly, a huge lack of stock at O2 stores.

progress....

Belfast situation:

I queued at the castle street store just before 8am, queue was pretty big, looked round to the queue at Victoria square, and it was HUGE. by quarter to 9, me and my dad decided to walk wround to the smaller o2 store in Castle court (a shopping centre which opened at 9am) and the queue was much much smaller - yay! I had to leave at 9:55 but my dad stayed in the queue to get mine for me - total legend!! :D:D:D

[EDIT]

Dad got one for me - he's dropping it off to my work now. Just can't sync it til i get home :(

Competent CPW staff?! Surely not!

CPW Billericay just point blank refused to persevere with putting my order through (upgrade from iPhone 2G) and wouldn't keep one on hold for me either, citing "first come first served". Well I did come, it's just those w*****s wouldn't serve me.

I'm still sitting in the Bullring store after 2.5 hours waiting for my order to go through.

I've passed the credit check, but can't get any further with the process.

At least I'm going to eventually get a white 16GB phone :)

For those of you who got an iPhone today, did anyone notice an opportunity to get an iPhone without giving your REAL details over? Just thinking - since the systems are down apparently?

Sorry you didn't get good service mate. I haven't had good service from O2 this week, but had fantastic service at CPW this morning when I bagged a 16gb!

got my 8gb reserved in carphone warehouse in warrington but waiting for the order to process, waiting in store for about 40 minutes before giving them my number to ring me if it goes through.

il ring them at about 2 if it hasnt gone through yet.

guess we playing the waiting game now.

went to another carphone warehouse with a que of 8 people and they opened the doors to confirm that they had 0 in stock.

Don't worry, I had the same thing happen but it does go through eventually. We had to resume the order a couple times.

Nope. The first thing they do is ask names and contact details. One of the store guys came out and took all of our details in the queue so that we wouldn't have to wait quite as long when we got in, which was a great idea.

Yeah just want to second that, O2 has been f******g crap but service in Cardiff CPW this morning was superb, very friendly, helpful, apologetic, professional, offered but no pushing of insurance etc.

Provided us upgraders with comfy sofas upstairs to sit on whilst we waited for the O2 systems to process etc.

I rarely do loyalty when it comes to shopping, but they just got mine!

Was queuing at Southampton at just after 7am, and got into a short queue for the Apple store.

Got to being served at just after 8am, when it opened, but the system crashing means I'm *still* waiting! Coming up for 3 hours wait. Maybe I'll get one soon...

God bless being a student.

Got in from Strand London not too long ago with my 16gb. Arrived around 7am to find 12ish people in queue ahead - by 8.02 must have been about 50 at least in line. They ran out of 16gb's but I think quite a number have or will manage to get their hands on 8gb.

Overall a tiring experience but the staff were friendly and apologetic (and they made us coffee & biscuits) - just feel sorry for them having to work with O2's incompetence and appalling preparation. They have had how long to prepare for this??? Systems seemed to go down the moment the store opened. What an absolute farce.

Of course O2 are a shambles - they get you all hanging about so they can take photos of 'crowd hysteria' and then sell out of their pitiful stock allowances so they can say they're 'sold out due to demand'.

Meanwhile CPW just say "there you go, mate".

Got a 16gb! From 02 Ashton-u-Lyne store, 0630, front of the queue. Couple of fellas appeared shortly after me, by 8 there was about 15.

One of my mates came good so that I get 30% discount on my monthly contract, w00t, so that's less than 25 nicker for the £35 package! Only downer is that mine won't be activated till tomorrow morning :(. Still I can fiddle with it!

Oh, and sure enough, the system was down when I sat down in front of the 02 guy at 0802. Took about 45 minutes, I pity the chaps at the back, they're probably still there.

My wife went to the Southampton one this morning, had to leave empty handed as she had to go off to work as well. Looks like no iPhone for me today :(

The manager of the store did however give her a slip of paper so if she comes back later in the day she will not have to queue. Not very impressed with O2's systems, web order system goes down, new contract system goes down....

I'm kinda glad I avoided the Strand then, I walked past at about 7.55 and saw the queue, and thought 'sod that, I'll wait'. Hopefully they'll have display models I can have a quick nose at though.
