I got one but it was hassle.

Arrived at O2 store in Basildon at 7.50am, got ticket, I was 40th!

O2 system went down some people persevered, others left. Anyway got to the front and the ticketing system was messed up because people who had left had given their tickets to people at the back of the queue! Luckily there was enough to go round, but not exactly fair when I was 40th and someone who joined an hour later was 26!

Success - but long drawn out process

I queued from about 7.20am at CPW branch in London. I was third in the queue and was surprised it wasn't busier. The manager came out and explained they had zero iPhones in stock at that point - but would be getting a delivery at 9am. They let people in from 8 and started trying to process our orders - but their computer systems were completely screwed. The delivery of phones duly arrived at 9. They had a grand total of just 4 x 16gb handsets available and I got one of them. The others went in seconds. Lots of 8gb though. I waited for an hour or so and then ended up leaving all my details while they tried to get the systems back up and running to phsyically process my upgrade. Just heard that the order's been processed and I'm going back to collect it later. It's been a frustrating week with the O2 online nonsense on Monday and an early start today - but hopefully by this evening I'll be sorted.

Any news on the system being back up yet?

i called the store 20 mins ago and they were still on "contingency" (ie, paper based)..

might call them up again in an hour to see if that's changed..

it'd be nice to have it today all activated...

at least i can play with the apps i have download on the itunes app store!! :D

iPint!!! COME ON!!!! ;)

Yeah, that's EXACTLY where I'm up to...

Oh good i was starting to think i shouldn't of plugged it in. Still at least it lets you use the thing for now just got to wait for the no service to change to 02-uk then i can plug it in the computer again.

Loks like the O2 phone system to call stores is pretty much up the spout too. Trying to get through to the Bullring store - 20 minutes and counting.

upgraded to the 16GB today.

Last night I visited the birmingham bullring O2 store and told me they had about 20 16GB's so make sure I get there early. Got there this morning about 7.10 and joined a line of about 15. By the time the store was open at 8am there was about 40-50 in the queue. I was the lucky one of about 10 people who got the 16gb. So Many people had to walk away when there were no 16gb left. Queue was nearly empty! First person left the store about 9am! I didnt leave with my phone until about 9.40!! But considering the systems went down they handled it pretty well. Plus I was inside the warmth of the bullring which made the waiting easier.

Yeah, that's EXACTLY where I'm up to...

Same here.

It was a shambles in Lincoln.

I was the first there at 6.40. Queued outside the Carphone Warehouse as they said they were opening at 7.02. The O2 shop nearby wasn't opening until 9.02 because the shopping centre doesn't open until then.

The CPW didn't open at 7.02 so I asked as they let another staff member in. I was told it was 8.02, they had changed their minds. Thanks!

10 minutes later a staff member comes out for a smoke. He told me that all the stock was reserved, even though when I asked a couple of days ago, they said no pre-orders. But I could reserve a phone for delivery tomorrow or Monday. He also claimed all the stock at the O2 was reserved. He was lying about O2. Carphone Warehouse, you will never ever get any business from me after this as I cannot trust you.

Queued outside the shopping centre for O2 but there was no organisation, so when the doors opened at 8.30, there was a scrum to get to the O2 shop and I ended up sixth in the queue.

The staff were excellently organised from that point though and really friendly. Went straight onto the paper forms as soon as the system crashed. They told me it might be tomorrow before the phone is active.

My 1st post here, so hi :D

I was 1st in line at the Amersham CPW for 07:30. Funny thing was that I was not the 1st there, other people were stalking around the immediate area with dark shades and upturned collars to embarrassed to be 1st in line :D

When the doors opened we were asked to form two queues, one for pre-orders and the other for people who had simply turned up...I was under the impression there werent any pre-orders

All the 16GB's that had been delivered had been pre-ordered so I had waiting at the store for no reason other than being able to reserve a 16GB for Mondays delivery . The store also suffered the same problems as everyone else, our orders were placed but could not be completed due to being unable to access the credit check system. Just got back from signing the completed order forms after the staff called me to let me know it was ready.

I have to say that the CPW staff handled the pressure as well as can be expected, the only exception was allowing a woman who had far to much gob to jump the queue.

My experience of O2 is not a good one, especially after Mondays web disater and todays shamble. It is only my drive to purchase an excellant product that has ensured I have persisted this far.

O2 are going to come out of this looking very bad indeed.

Im one of the ones thats filled the handwritten form in and told they'd ring me once the upgrade has been processed so i can then go and get the phone.

I was also one of the ones that didnt think O2 were too bad, the 1st launch i didnt have a problem, and i have O2 broadband, which is better than alot of the companys that only deal in internet.

But todays fiasco has changed my mind abit, i just hope they honor their word and keep some reserved for the people that have filled the form in.

AND RING ME SOON SO I CAN PICK UP THE GODDAMN THING.

Well, just got myself an 8GB iPhone to play with for the next 12 days or so...
The guy in the O2 store I went to spelled iPhone

I'm still sitting at o2 store. What a joke!!!!!
not leaving without the phone

Have you got yours yet? They havnt rang me up yet to go back round. :(

My story (Hemel).

Wow... even after the online fiasco they haven't bothered to upgrade their servers. I was 9th in line (turned up at 6.30am) and we were told they had 10 16's and 40 8's, they let us 10 in first and we all opted for the 16GB. The guy behind me was a train driver running late, so we let him go first, good deed :)

It seems as though upgraders would be processed no problems and new contracts were would always hit a brick wall with the system.
After hours of the failing "gateway" system they used, word came down that they were allowed to use paper forms instead, and I eventually left very happy. Thanks to the O2 rep who worked her ass off trying to get my order through.

Well i managed to upgrade to a 16gig iphone at CPW Selfridges yet it took be about 2hrs!!!

Honestly the staff were 1st class given the situation and the atmosphere was fairly good. But still 2hrs!!!

I hope O2 does not send an email quoting some silly numbers of sales per second etc as in my mind it does not cut it!

Yes it was going to be busy but they FAILED with this launch! Yes its just a phone; yes the world is still turning but bad planning is bad planning.

O2 are lucky that the product is strong and people are willing to put up with this.

Still i have mine.

They expected it to come back permanently around 2-3pm when I asked, so here's to hoping! And yes dog229, well coped with by all the staff, shame the system wasn't up to it.

Whilst i was there someone from their IT support came down; but from what i could hear the fault was squarely with O2....hmmmm

Winchester

Turned up at 6am, the absolute earliest I was prepared to get out of bed, to find myself 5th in line.

O2 staff turned up at about 7, and at 7:30 the manager told everyone how many 16gb and how many 8gb they had (8 and 24). He then went down the queue asking what they wanted and gave them a business card with '16' or '8' written on it. When he had run out of 16gb some people left the queue straight away.

When doors opened at 8 they let the first 3 people into the store as they only have 3 terminals. As soon as they realised that the system was down they immediately started paper processing so people took about 20 mins each to check identity, address and sign-up. They could not process upgrades until the system came back up so those upgraders who were in line waited in store or their iPhone was taken and put to one side for them.

The rest of us left with our glorified 16gb ipod touches...

Impressive store organisation given the shambles of their IT.

@Fizzoid

Doubtful, not everyone who was in our queue at 8.02 got a phone. Although they were advising people to come back and check later incase anyone couldn't get their allocated one due to failed credit check or whatever, so you may have some luck. But otherwise, they next expected stock on tuesday.

One of the small local franchise O2 stores I told you about earlier I called by again mid morning.

I walked in and one guy and one girl were yawning at each other. I said I suppose you sold all your iphone stock already and you are now winding down ?

Er we have not even sold A SINGLE ONE ! System crashed <shrugs> with the local holiday here tomorrow its been a really slow day. Only sold a few cheap pay and you go nokias to foreign workers  <yawn>

How many do you still have :eek: 3 8 gb's and No 16's

ummm In 3 weeks time when they have stock they cant shift and people losing interest as the next gadget comes along they might remember black friday.
