CPW had about 1000 for free delivery to home/store Mon or £15 home/store Sat about 5 mins ago. I'd be quick though. Their systems seem to working now.

O2 really messed it up!!

I knew that O2 was going to f**k up this wonderful and beautiful day, this is why I didn't even bother queueing in front of a store early this morning. I guess I'll have to wait a couple of weeks before being able to put my hands on a white iPhone. His Highness Mr. Jobs won't like this... I won't be surprised if he will find another carrier in the UK soon.

Hear hear!

I read in this thread that its taking 2 hours for the first customer to get their hands on a phone from the UK flagship store, so Mr Jobs should definitely hear about this almighty O2 cock up.

Then he'll look elsewhere for a carrier that can actually do the job.

Well in Derby it was just as bad. One O2 store with about 40 outside .. the other with about 30 .. both CPWs only about 6 outside. So I joined that one for a new contract. Bad move. I was FOURTH in line and lost out to the last 16gb to get sold. Yup they had three. THEN I was told it would DEFF come tomorrow am. To the store for collection. I then waited for a credit check for 90 mins after being told they had no stock in their warehouse!!!! What a company. So I then used THEIR laptop to buy one ONLINE on the CPW site!. Thats the good news. Now its only at Stage Two and cannot be traced by the CPW desks in the stores. I just rang em and they said demand is so high processing is taking longer. Amazing. THEN to rub further salt in the wound the Derby Westfield lot told me that now there WAS stock in their warehouse. I said its too late - already ordered online. I hope. Finally .. the ultimate insult .. went into the O2 shop and they said theyd one unclaimed 16gb unit. But it was too late. Id given my PAC code and all my details online. What a farce. So now I have no idea if its coming tomorrow at all. O2 always have been the epitome of incompetence and yet they STILL use them. TMobile would never have allowed this to happen. Maybe I shouldve stuck with them and the upcoming Vario IV. At least you get service there. So now am in limbo. Will it come tomorrow?. Somehow I dont think so. And if not ...how DO I cancel it! Because its not even officiall recognised yet! Ridiculous. Only in the UK eh? And why? Cos we're a nation of whingers ... not complainers ... so we get what we get cos we deserve it! Aye weel!

Well it gets worse. The guy from the CPW shop in Derby rings to say my 16gb online order is received and being sorted out ... for a Tuesday!!!! delivery. Great. So THEN I get a email seconds after saying .. Out Of Stock!. Jesus!. Can I cancel this order what? There is no relevant box in the order confirmation to do this .. and what if youve passed em your PAC code etc? This is most odd! And most annoying!

it got WORSE!!!! Just rang order team to find out what is happening! Unbelievably again ... she says this:

Thank you for ordering with www.carphonewarehouse.com.

We have now processed it through our secure systems, but are unable to despatch the item to you for security reasons. This order has now been cancelled.

If you still wish to make a purchase please call 0870 087 0870.

And thats the email quotation .. in other words my card details were not accepted because of the self imposed cockups in processing .. BY THEM!!!!

So now no phone no order ... and a day wasted. Bollocks. Might as well stick with TMobile and forget the iPhone. At least Ill be able to make calls!

Cheers for nowt O2/CPW! Who else could .. .

Say theyre open at 9am then open at 8 02
Supply THREE 16gb phones for the total Derby populace
Take your order for next day delivery
Take 90 mins to do it then find out no stock
Allow you to order a iPhone online with THEIR PC
Get email confirmation and text backup to confirm above
Say that processing may take longer than normal
A manager rings to say all going fine
Ring up CPW orders team to find out its not happening
Agreement is fully cancelled. No deal mate. Sorry!.

Moral of the tale?. Either wait. Or dont bother. Suppose Ive saved £800 over 18 months but what a cock up . We really ARE a nation of zero vision.

Ta ra!

Jesus, this is the mother off all cock ups! I really feel for you, i would've gone postal at someone! Seriously though, what do O2 think they're playing at? This only happens because we only have O2 to get the iphone from. Other countries that have 2 or more providers wouldn't have this problem because their providers know they'll lose customers if they pulled the same stunt! Until that axe is handing over O2's head they'll just carry on, because they know they can get away with it!

Mr Jobs, i hope your listening, because this is ruining your company name.!

Anybody actually receive an iPhone upgrade today?

I'd be interested to know if anybody who ordered an upgrade from O2 actually received it today.

I successfully ordered a 16GB upgrade before they announced it was sold out online. My online O2 account still just says 'order in progress'.

I'd hate to think that O2 were prioritising new customers.

I was going to get an O2 sim and give my old iPhone to my wife - now I think I'll just unlock it and put her old Orange sim in.

That'll teach them.

Wow, so even Apples rollout of its prized new kit is going well! Of course the bottleneck is O2 (surprise, surprise!), so if disgruntled customers at the flagship UK store are having problems then at least it'll get back to Mr Jobs, then he can decide wether he wants to keep O2 as the only carrier in the UK.

Bye Bye O2, its not long for you now!

I wonder what kind of get out clauses there are in their contract!

O2 may well have royally f***ed things over here, but I've got nothing but praise for the way the situation was handled at my local Apple store (Kingston).

Despite being in a queue for 6 hours, there was always information, sweets, coffee and water being freely dished out. The manager (Harj?) was out on the floor most of the time, keeping himself (and as a result us) cool and collected. I really don't think they could have handled the situation any better, and definitely worth publicly mentioning them for that.

All I need now is for O2 to actually activate it! I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that they won't be charging me on my contract from Friday, as I still can't make any voice/3G connections.

EDIT: Perhaps also worth mentioning, a guy behind me left the Apple queue to go the O2 shop. He waited over there for 40 mins before then finding out they didn't have a 16GB phone in stock. No info, signs etc. He was fuming.

It seems that all the Apple stores have stock of black and white iPhones, and O2 & CPW haven't!

Surprising that isn't it :)

His Highness Mr. Jobs won't like this... I won't be surprised if he will find another carrier in the UK soon.

It's his own fault for being so bloody greedy and insisting on one exclusive carrier. If Apple allowed all the UK mobile phone companies to sell the iPhone, we wouldn't have seen so many huge cock ups.

O2 clueless?

I don't know if there is already a thread for this situation, but I've found out how S**T O2 is with their customers. Yesterday I went to the Apple Store where despite a little queue there were plenty of iPhone in any model possible (8 - 16 black white, you name it). Since I'm an O2 customer I can't purchase the phone at the Apple store but I have to deal with the ignorance of O2 or CPW employers, where of course they have none. (One arrogant ass employer at the CPW had the balls to tell me that there were NONE IPHONE IN THE WHOLE COUNTRY!!! just to let you know how much they don't know). Now here's the actual problem: I've been told id I want to upgrade just to find out that my upgrade option is not until December 2008, so that means that I cannot get my iPhone until that date. I started fuming. I've been a customer of O2 since last August on purpose because I knew that they were going to get the iPhone, and now I'm told that I have to wait to finish my 18 months contract??? In the meantime people buying the iPhone 2 months ago are free to break the contract and start a new one. So now I feel like S**T because I've been treated like the lower possible, behind new customer and iPhone customer. It should be the other way around. On top of that I've read different stories of people been told that they could upgrade no matter what and other people been told the exact opposite. Like I said before, O2 and CPW employers have no clue about anything regarding this situation. I hope someone would give me a straight answer. Sorry for the long post!

This has been common knowledge since the announcement of the 3G iPhone.

Customers for the original iPhone had paid the full cost of the phone when signing up for their 18 month contract. There was no subsidy for the phone in the monthly payment, so O2 are happy to let these customers upgrade as long as they sign up for a new 18 month contract.

If you are on a standard O2 non-iPhone contract, then you probably got your phone free or discounted, the cost of which is subsidised over the duration of the contract. You must either wait for your contract to finish or pay up the remainder of the contract if you wish to get a 3G iPhone.

I think that my Nokia N73 has been paid out in the past year of monthly subscription, but beside that, my girlfriend bought an iPhone in May and she started a new contract, and she wasn't even near the end of her contract, and she got the £160 deal (Pretty sure that was not the whole price for a 8gb iPhone). I don't think it's fair that I can't even have an option to buy the 3G iPhone beside buying out my contract and starting a new one.

I should think Apple lawyers have some pretty good clauses for any of the carriers. Performance, miss handling, etc.

Lets hope Apple does take it off O2, or at least give it to another carrier and give us users some choice to vote with our feet. I hate being trapped and not able to show a company its flaws by going with another that treats customers properly. Its the only power we have as consumers.

I just had an interesting call from O2. I phoned them yesterday to say my phone still hadn't been activated, and they told me it would be by the 'close of business'. Naturally, this morning still no activated phone.

So I phoned again, and an hour later a customer advisor called me. They wanted all the information I gave at the Apple store again. Apparently none of it had been fed through, even though I was sat next to the Apple guy while he was talking to an O2 bod over the phone.

So from now, I'm still looking at up to 24 hours before I can start using the phone as a phone, despite buying it on Friday.
