I just went to 3 Carphone Warehouse stores, and an O2 store, and none of them had any white 16GB phones. They only stock the black version.

One CW I went to said they had only 2x 8GB phones in stock.

The second CW had "more" (the guy said he didn't expect me to have any trouble getting one tomorrow)

The third CW had a dozen phones, but only 2x 16GB models (all black)

The O2 store wouldn't say how many they had in stock, but did confirm they only had black ones.

carphone delivery

Apparently the cut-off is before 6pm

Though they were trying to charge me double the amount for guaranteed by 12pm. £10 instead of £5.

I wonder if they did mean Saturday? Either way I'm happier waiting at home than getting in a queue early in the morning.

I'm intending to practice a bit of working from home tomorrow.

Carphone Wharehouse online is for new customers only. So I can't do it.

I find it hard to believe that, after everything that has been going on all week, they suddenly have new stock?? Unless, they've decided to start selling tomorrow's store stock online instead...

I'm going to an O2 store instead

Similar to my calls. Liverpool only had 3 16gb and they already had names on them. I was quite annoyed that they had been reserved. I would have reserved ages ago if I had been told to. Stupid upgrade nonsense.

I too was told from my local O2 store in London that there would be "enough" iPhones tomorrow but they wouldn't tell me how many. How the hell can they know how many people are going to turn up? They said they would have 16GB black too, but I'm really surprised that general stock levels seem to still favour the 8GB version.

Owing to the re-enabling of the Carphone Warehouse online ordering for new customers today, I think that O2 has received today more iPhones than they were expecting and are letting on. Whether Monday's online shenanigans worked or not for convincing Apple to divert more stock to the UK, I think that O2 is now playing down the stock so as to ensure they have minimum fuss and complaints tomorrow from disappointed customers. Instead, they'll just be able to say "I told you so".

I still fully expect iPhones to sell out tomorrow though, although it appears that if you go in a little early for store opening then you might be in luck.

I really hope you ‘re right! I have a viral infection and am not looking forward to the prospect of an abominably early start! Still think I will though. I loose my pac code if I don’t get a new phone tomorrow. Sigh…

Sounds like a hot lemonade, honey and whiskey is in order for you...
If you are reading this now - you shouldn't! You should make said drink, drink up and get straight to bed! You'll be right as rain tomorrow.

CW will tell you anything to get you there, so they can pin you to the floor and try and force talktalk on to you.

I phoned CPW around 4PM today after seeing they had iPhones available to order online. I ordered a 16GB one over the phone to collect tomorrow in-store. Here's hoping I'll actually get it tomorrow.

what's the betting that i'll end up travelling around loads of different stores tomorrow morning in the hope of getting that illusive 16gb white..

should i go to a larger o2 store, or a small one in a small town... i have 2 small towns near me, and then Leeds is up the road.... i'm confused as what to do...

i don't want a black one..... grrr...

O2 have told me, time and time again, that they will *not* have white ones. At all. Not even the one off, they just plain old aren't getting them. Only Apple stores will have them in limited numbers.

But then again O2 could be yanking my chain.

Having spoken to most of Leeds' O2 stores, I wouldn't count on getting one at all if you're not there soon after opening, never mind a white one. The Commercial Street branch said they had 'enough', but that they expected big queues, Briggate were elusive and Headingley are saying "We've been taking pre-orders" - oh, really? Might have to inform someone higher up the food-chain of that.

I'll be at the Commercial Street store, if anyone's going to be there ;)

i think i'll stick with my plan to go to Dewsbury, which is opening at 8.02am.. if that doesn't work.. another store nearby, which opens at normal time..

damn.. i've just given away my game plan!

Anybody know what classifies as valid identification? I have my driver's license (both parts), a couple of bank statements, a student loan statement and so on, but I don't have access to my passport at the moment.

I'm going to my local O2 store for about 7:45, and if there are massive queues then CPW store nearby. If it's obvious that I'm not going to get a 16GB I guess I'll order online and just wait for it to arrive.

how about the Apple Retail Store?

Wouldn't they sell iPhone tomorrow too?

And if they do, how much will iPhone cost?
(Will that be the same as O2 pricing?)

According to the website for CPW, you only need a valid chip and pin debit or credit card to do the address and identity checks.

according to o2, you need 2 forms of id..

1 being a valid credit or debit card
1 being something with your address on... a student loan statement wouldn't be valid, a full driving licence would be, normally the photocard part will do.
also, a bank statement would be alright too!!!

I'll be visiting the Commercial Street store too!! Was thinking of going to the Headingley store (walking distance) but I need to be in work early in the city, so would have to drive back...

Does this apply to upgrading customers, or what do existing upgrading iphone customers need to bring when upgrading ?

awww... i'm gonna be all alone in the weird town of Dewsbury....

i'm not hopeful at all for a white iphone tomorrow... might just resign myself to an 8gb black, and get a white one in october when my current t-mob hacktivated 16gb iphone (haha) runs out!

but.. i'll be on here at 8.40am with my iphone.. hoepfully

Yeah, Headingley would have been good for me too, but they're being pretty anal and the guy at Commercial Street seemed pretty clued up. Thankfully I don't have to be at work early...due to being a student bum. With (hopefully) two iPhones. Yeah

How much McDonald's breakfast do you reckon I'll need to bring to keep myself entertained for a few hours? ;)

student? soap dodger? 2 iphones... greedy..

me... employed, booked day off holiday after watching keynote.. hehe..

this will be my third iphone...

my first (8gb) blew itself up inside, after i docked it on a speaker dock
my second (16gb) is working perfectly fine, and i'll probably use that as my works phone once there is a 2.0 hack for it..
my third, will become my main phone, but unforunately i lose my nice number i have currently on t-mob... i'll go back to my old one, that people people still have in their phone books for me..

and seeing the video on youtube, of the white one... i think i'll get a 16gb black, and be happy with it... it just looks odd in white..

and i can't sleep.... should i just drive down to the store now to start queueing... albeit in the car with the heaters on.. and windscreen wipers... *LOL*

as for the mcdonalds.. i think the dewsbury branch is next door to mcd's... haha..
and for the queue... hmm... 2 double and sausage egg mcmuffins, and 3 hash browns.. that'll last about 15 mins...
