So the last word from the supervisor for tonight is that UPS missed the security check and therefore missed the flight and no one knows when the next flight is, so totally just request status updates and your package will get to you sometime probably delayed but we don't really know. Real useful. Why do they even offer tracking if they can't tell you when something is going to arrive?

Anyway, I'm done for tonight. Hopefully we will all get phones Tuesday, because this is stupid.

maybe the ups system is simply mad.
since jose's package was once showed to be at HK airport, and then changed to be delayed also, ups system might just telling wrong status..

Yeah I guess so, gonna bug apple tomorrow and ask for a free Apple TV or some Beats by Tim for the inconvenience. ^jk

Beats suck. Wouldn't trade my Sennheiser HD 598s for 100 pairs of Beats. :)

I would trade my 598s for any info on my damn phone though. Do I have to put a picture of my 6+ on a milk carton to find out where the hell it is?!?

the tendering sounds like either a lack of customs documents, or customs or whatever their TSA equivalent is, didn't bother to return the pallets back in time to send them forward..

Or China is just tired of busting smugglers of the phones coming back in, its try to stop the flow out until thats fixed? (jk)

Mine's still stuck in Zhenzhou. Kinda hoped for it to slide to HK and fly this way... have to wonder if Apple had set certain dates for their bulk shipments with UPS (we did that with our forwarders) and they missed them and so UPS did not have schedules built up. I still would think that UPS would be able to handle the flux within a day though... unless China's customs/tariff/etc decided not to play ball anymore as a general rule. (Of course I thought that was what World Ease was all about.... palletizing in bulk like products to be sent through export controls, import controls, and other governmental checks as a single unit to minimize the workload and issues through government interactions). )

Well, if they didn't include a commercial invoice with a customs value and description of the goods, a harmonized tariff code/schedule B number and state department license exemption, a Federal Tax ID code, and finish crossing their Ts and dotting their Is, the shipment has to be held by UPS, no matter how hard they want to ship it out.

If the Foxconn employee sending this crap out for Apple forgot even the smallest detail, the entire World Ease shipment with all of our phones would have to be held until Apple faxes the appropriate documentation to UPS so they can clear customs.

But customs clearance is in Alaska. So why is it in Shanghai? the 747 left there, stopped in Alaska, and went on to Louisville. Something just doesn't make sense about this entire thing. Unless they unloaded the plane in Shanghai and left the phones there and that makes even less sense to me.

USA customs clearance is in the US, but China will not forward anything out without the proper documentation as we won't forward anything out of the USA without the proper documentation. At UPS we call this the "inline document audit process." I suspect this is what caused the holdup.

As an international shipment auditor for UPS, our goal is to find errors BEFORE they leave the center they were shipped from, because once they're halfway across the world it's even harder to fix a mistake.

Yeah your right none of this makes any sense.

flyingwasabi,

If my UPS status shows:

>> ZhengZhou, China 09/20/2014 1:45 A.M. Departure Scan

does that mean my iPhone is actually out of China?

Ups holdup due to missing paperwork is weird, since Foxconn ships phones out everyday. There must be someone who is mainly in charge of custom clearance.
Our phones are sitting in customs for days while Apple Store kept getting new phones everyday?
It is just not fair..
We have stayed up late to preorder the phones, while others can simply pick theirs up in store faster..
I hate apple and ups

While it does vary with country.... some countries do both export customs/restrictions (you cant ship certain goods from the country.. in this case China currently has heavy export tariffs on a number of raw materials and fertilizers ... they have the right to search the shipments for these and others) and import customs/restrictions (you cant bring certain goods into the country.. like the US currently restricts many things from Russia for instance for policy reasons). Regardless, UPS cant put it on a flight to the US if it hasnt cleared all the requirements to be accepted in the US, or if China hasnt approved it to leave. (edit: technically they can, but is unwise to do so)

edit: also, in the US, I believe UPS has worked a deal such that the AK facility is actually "outside" the united states... since it is mostly an international hub... packges are cleared at Kentucky... but I'm not sure if that is actually the case.

That depends. What's the rest of your status? ZhengZhou is a giant 2 square mile Foxconn factory, and your package can depart from ZhengZhou (at the factory) and then arrive at ZhengZhou again (at the airport/dock) later on.

I also have daily internationals customers and I know that their shipments are legit, but one mistake and I STILL have to hold the shipment for customer follow up. They then fax the appropriate paperwork over the next business day and then I'm able to take the shipment off hold and forward it to the next destination. I think the problem with our shipments might be that even though the process is mostly automated, if a mistake occurs there is nobody there on the weekends to correct it. Expect an update in the next 2-5 hours at worst if my theory is right.

Thanks for the info. since you are a UPS Auditor. don't you have some colleagues who can tell us more about our phone holidaying in shanghai. :)

when is the next flight what is the route they are planing ..... some kind of UPS insider job

this year iPhone release doesn't look good at all. i ordered 3 phones for myself and my family. got the first 2 on launch day but we are not living in the states so i had a relative forward it to me by fedex (i assumed that ups will be pretty busy with apple job) my phones left NYC and arrived to memphis 4 hours before the scheduled flight to Dubai (direct flight and i should have received them sunday morning (its the first day of the week in dubai and fedex does deliver) i paid 171 USD for that and to my super big surprise the phones didn't leave memphis and sat there for 48h. when i checked they said its a mechanical delay. wtf....mechanical delay.... the flight to dubai left and landed in dubai. and my phones arrived to memphis 4 hours before that.

so now they left and they are in Paris and will only see them may be this wednesday.

and my 3 phone which is with you guys is 6+ that was scheduled to be delivered on the 22nd faced a delay and now a ********* storm and no ones seems to know when they will be delivered.

honestly we need a new shipping company to shake up the industry (someone like a tesla or virgin atlantic or a new steve jobs of shipping)

You maybe right. Those paperwork people are out of office on weekends...

I really don't think this is UPS's fault. If my theory is right and Apple forgot shipping papers on Friday, it's a 1 day delay, but because we were waiting all weekend it feels like an eternity.

Thanks for the information. I like many others are just getting frustrated with the delays and lack of timely updates from UPS. Hopefully by morning they will have it all solved and a new schedule loaded.

The first departure was leaving the factory, and the second was presumably leaving the dock. I would assume your phone will make service on Tuesday. Check your tracking in 3 hours and it's probably hitting the US.

The most reliable shipping company I have ever used is Dhl.. I don't know why it is out of business in states..
