I concur

I for one don't like it when I have icons on my desktop. Because once I start it gets messy pretty fast. And for the HD icons... I can access these with just one click more. I guess I just like things cleaned up and not messy.

When it some to my 'puter, everything has its place and pretty much nothing belongs on the desktop. I can usually access something faster using keyboard shortcuts as opposed to hiding all my apps, finding my stuff on the desktop, and clicking it.

I just prefer a nice clean environment. Now, my boss on the other hand has pretty much every single thing from his computer aliased onto his desktop. Different strokes for different folks i guess.

Here is mine

the chrysler building NY city, I took this picture in one of my way to see a client....

Well, I'm sure most people moved a lot of icons out of the way to show the desktop pic screenshot. But as for mine, seven icons like in my screenshot is a lot. I only use the Desktop for temporary file storage, and I always make it part of my routine to clean up and store files in proper places at the end of every workday. For one, I don't like a cluttered desktop, and it's nice to be able to start fresh every single day. Plus, on a 12 inch screen, once you start letting the Desktop get filled with icons, it gets crowded really quickly. My friend also has a 12" iBook and since he never bothers to clean, his Desktop now has three layers of icons, making it horribly inefficient. I could probably say that seeing people like that was one of my influences.

currently I have a black and white photo of a feather on a white background, simple. :)

This might sound like a stupid question.

How do you guys set the type beside the icons on your desktop to flush left? Also, how do you have the name of the song playing on itunes appear on the desktop like how many of you do? It sort of has a transparency to it.

Thanks.

You just highlight them all, and then under the view pulldown at the top of the screen click on arrange, and then the type, or, clean up selection. They both work.

hey ExoticFish, nice.

i'm not a big fan of Stattoo though, you know there are other free apps out there that can do pretty much the same thing. ;) i hope it doesn't take you as long as it took me to 'set-up' my 15". i think i was at it for about 4 days before i got it all how i wanted it, with my old files back on it and all.

@ Wilson - to get the currently playing iTunes track on your desktop, you've got lots of options. currently i'm using Growl, i like it, it just pops up when the track changes, then hides itself. you could also use Konfabulator in combination with some of the many, many iTunes widgets available.
another very promising app is LanOSD. the interface is looking really nice so far. i'd be using that, except i dont' really know how to get it working to do what i want it to. :p hope that helps you out. :)

to get the type to sit on the right of the icons on your desktop, just go to the Desktop, then go to View Options (cmd+j) and you can select if you want the type under or beside your icons.

I would first like to say how much i like your desktop, and was wondering if i could get a copy of it?

that would be Stattoo. ;) but like i said, there are also free, and in some cases better alternatives to that llittle app. however it will be better when some more plug-ins come out for it, if they every do.

BTW, ExoticFish - i meant to say that i love your 'tar. :D i've got that same pic as a screensaver on my T610. but i dont' have a clue where it came from. :p perhaps you can enlighten me as to it's origins? :)

I'm sure that cat thing was in a Levis advert, flat eric was it?

Thanks guys for answering my question about those desktop options. I noticed that many you have customized icons, where do you download those themes?

Thanks.

As to Sweetfeld28 here is a link to my desktop picture.

Wilson, the program I'm using to display current song is synergy.

cb911, I believe that character is also in a music vidio for Basementjax if I remember correctly, the name of the song however escapes me.
