I've been holding out for a Retina Mini (still have an original iPad 1), and I think the worst thing that could happen would be the "iPad 3'ing" of the Mini.

If they gave it Retina, but didn't fit it with an acceptable processor... then have them come out with the upgrade six months later. (Yeah, I know the 3 still had the old 30 pin, and the new one has a Lightning connector, too, so it wasn't ALL about the processor...)

A 'flagship' product is the premier, expensive model. i.e the ship in the fleet with the admiral in it.

It's not the most popular one, which is usually an entry or mid-level product.

The flagship products are iPhone 5s and soon to be iPad 5.

Bingo.

Sales or popularity does not equal flagship.

Really think a 3-series BMW is the flagship product compared to the 7-series?

Please, Apple: 32, 64 and 128 Gb lineup, starting at $499. 16 Gb in a Retina Display app world is a joke.

Apple recognizes this fact, which is why the 2013 mini will not have a retina display. :D

But the good news is that it will get the 18 month old A6 CPU and the 1 GB of RAM that it should have got last year.

And you (and I) will still buy one.

With the intro of the 128gb model this past year and retina apps hogging space it's possible we might see the end of the 16gb iPad. I hope that's the case. However, with the new form factor I just don't know. All that said I still don't think we will see the integration of Touch ID in the iPad this year.

I'd like some kind of keyboard smart cover ala the Surface.

For me, the iPad is 95% a consumption device, I find a mba a billion times more efficient for anything work related, but it'd be nice to have the option of fairly non-intrusive & light keyboard cover.

I believe the iPad 5 will get TouchID this year. Mini will get it next year. It is clearly a big piece of their strategy going forward in concert with iCloud Keychain.

Prior to the last Keynote I was also thinking that the iCloud Keychain was going to become a big feature with Apple, but with the announcement that fingerprints are purely local, and the pulling of iCloud keychain support from iOS7 GM, it seems Apple is pumping the brakes. Either way, I think it will be likely that iPad 5 has TouchID as a way of differentiation between cheaper products. And honestly, maybe an iCloud Keychain isn't as useful as we previously thought if most future products (computers and mobile devices) start getting TouchID. Even without iCloud sync, 30 seconds to set up a new device and no need for passwords saved in the cloud sounds like the best of both worlds to me! Fingers crossed on TouchID Magic Mouse/Trackpad in the future.

It's suspected that they realized that there's little point to iCloud keychain in iOS if OS X doesn't support it. Most of us have tons of data in our OS X Keychains, but little to nothing stored on our iOS devices. The rumors are that Apple will add iCloud Keychain back into iOS with the release of OS X 10.9 "Mavericks" (or shortly thereafter).

That's definitely possible. I wonder how much (if any) all of this recent news about privacy and online monitoring is behind Apple's decision making. They certainly made a point to clarify that TouchID is local only in the Keynote.

- Apple will announce the new products.
- People will complain about features.
- People will complain about price.
- People will claim that Apple lost its innovation.
- People will claim that they are switching to competitor xxx.
- Apple stock will plummet again.

- Apple will have record breaking sales of the new product.

Here's my prediction, at least for full-sized iPad:

1. New iPad mini-like case, so the new iPad seems to look physically smaller than the current model.
2. Same resolution and size on touchscreen as 4G iPad
3. A7X SoC with 1 GB of RAM
4. 16, 32, 64 or 128 GB of flash memory storage
5. 802.11b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi support; also, support for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz
6. Cellular equipped models support GSM or CDMA with multiple frequency LTE support
7. Same back image sensor and LED flash as iPhone 5 (or the current iPhone 5C)
8. Bluetooth 4.0 support

I'm getting the 32 GB Wi-Fi version with white bezel. :D

I can't predict what Apple will offer with the next-generation iPad mini due to unknown on whether iPad mini will switch to higher-resolution Retina Display.

It could get 2 gb of RAM, considering iPads have always got more RAM before iPhones. On the other hand iPads got the next gen. chip first in the beginning (iPad 1, iPad 2- with A4/A5), but for the last two years (iPhone 5 with A6 and now 5s with A7) new iPhones were first to get them. (and will probably continue to get them first). :D

- no Touch ID for both iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2
- no gold color for both iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2
- 16GB model will not be dropped
- iOS 7 designed iLife and iWork apps will be shown

iPad 5
- New design based on the iPad Mini
- New Apple designed Smart Covers/Cases
- A7X chip with 1GB RAM
- 10 hour battery life
- 8MP iSight camera with f/2.4 aperture
- Ultrafast LTE wireless with more LTE bands
- iOS 7
- New iWork and iLife apps with iOS 7 design

iPad Mini 2
- 7.9" Retina display at 326 ppi
- A6X chip with 1GB RAM
- 10 hour battery life
- 8MP iSight camera with f/2.4 aperture
- Ultrafast LTE wireless with more LTE bands
- iOS 7
- New iWork and iLife apps with iOS 7 design

I doubt there will be a retina Mini at this time. In fact I will bet a good amount of money on it.

Upgraded, thinner iPad 5 - A7 chip, etc (not sure about fingerprint)

Upgraded Mini (A6 chip, better front and back cameras, Space Grey model added)

I have a mini now and I will likely get a 64GB iPad 5.

What we won't get in both iPad and mini:
- better resolution in either ie they remain the same
- fingerprint sensor
- bigger storage than the maximum currently (128GB iPad, 64GB Mini)

What we will like get (most likely):
- Better chip
- Possibly higher ram
- technical updates with Bluetooth and Wifi
- iPad will have Mini inspired design
- Maybe different colors (cause woman like different colours - in the words if Apple themselves) :D
- iOS7 shipped with devices
- better camera's (I don't know anyone that uses their iPad as a proper, "professional" camera)

Now that I think of it, these updates seem lame :(

Where are you getting the idea that iPad's have always gotten more ram the iPhones? iPad 3 and iPad 4 both have 1GB ram. iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S both have 1GB ram :confused::confused:

I agree with this 100%. Except I think battery life on the iPad 5 will be 8 or so, instead.

Why do you think this?

They get more RAM BEFORE iPhones (at least for the last release in 2012). iPad 3 was released in March 2012 and had 1gb of RAM). iPhone 5 was released in September 2012 )and got 1 gb of RAM.
Of course that's only one year (and is a small sample to determine some patterns), but that's why I said MAYBE. :)

Here are my general thoughts as of this moment. Mainly based of history and current rumors:

  • New Apple Cases ($39)
  • Starting at $499

iPad Mini 2
  • Retina display

I'm not sure they would me the mini retina. Would nee a bigger battery to power the high pixel count. Not to mention that any of the X variations of the A5 and A6 were double the size.

but who knows l

iPad 5
- iPad Mini like design
- A7X chip with 2GB RAM
- Upgraded Camera
- Not as many colors as 5s
-Same Price
-Removal of 16 gb option
-32,64 and 128 gb options.

iPad Mini 2
- Retina display
- A6X chip with 1GB RAM
- New camera
- 16, 32 and 64 gb options

Could Apple really keep selling the mini at $329 if it gains a retina display? After that, probably the only major thing separating the two iPad models would be the screen size and the processor. Is this enough to justify the price difference?
