I miss the black :( the mini looked awesome in a black slate. I might be going for white or gold this time.

I mourn the passing of your good taste :D and hope your life in the land of Bling is a good one, please hand in at least one hundred of your IQ points as you leave ;)

I hope Apple will put touch ID into all their new devices and will find ways to use it with 3rd party apps without them having direct access to the fingerprint data.

I believe this will be the future of all hand held mobile devices, Android will of course call this by a different name.

- Apple will announce the new products.
- People will complain about features.
- People will complain about price.
- People will claim that Apple lost its innovation.
- People will claim that they are switching to competitor xxx.
- Apple stock will plummet again.

- Apple will have record breaking sales of the new product.

You forgot one...

- People that complain with above complaints will also buy them...:D

They are waiting to see if they can announce the Mini retina - hence the delay in announcing the keynote.

Time is ticking, so it may be an iPad 5 only event this month, but with the option of them adding in the Mini retina at the last minute if they get the okay from the team assessing the initial yield of products.

It's a real close call. They won't announce a product this month if there's no realistic chance of shipping it before the end of the year. Which is fair enough.

The iPad 5 however is all ready to go..... ;)

And you know this for sure because... ;)

I would assume the announcement will go ahead as planned regardless. If the retina mini isn't available then they will just say shipping soon or late 2013 / early 2014 or something similar. They announced the new Mac Pro at the WWDC even though that wasn't ready for retail.

If the iPad 5 hits my doorstep mid November, it's gonna be a hell of a three weeks for my postman - iPad 5 tbc, PS4 Nov 22, XB1 Nov 29th :). By good luck, I'm off on both of those Fridays too!

Man, If i were you I would not have made any plans those fridays! :D

By off, I mean off work that day.

God knows when the iPad will land, but I'll be panting like a dog staring out the letterbox from 0800 on the (UK releases) 22nd and 29th :)

haha! That is the correct behavior! *thumbsup!* :D

Apple sells iOS devices they could care less about cannibalization. The iPad mini and iPad are two premium devices. Not sure why you would be surprised about a retina screen. Last year the battery technology and chip efficiency were not there. The A7 chip will be efficient enough to run a retina screen on the mini and not to mention the improved battery tech over last year

Never heard of any battery tech improvement for years now. what improvement that you have an insight?

My wallet is going to be pretty thin through November: iPad 5, Playstation 4 + PSN Plus + couple games, NBA League Pass.

Yikes !

We should be getting close to predicting the date now, or at least possibly ruling out one of the predictions.

I think that Apple sent out the invitations for the 10th September iPhone 5S launch on the 3rd, i.e. exactly a week beforehand. I've seen one widely-spread rumour that the iPad 5 event will be on the 15th of October but quite a few people seem to think that's wrong and it'll actually be on the 22nd. If Apple keeps to the previous pattern then in 3 days time we should have some idea of whether the 15th is the launch date because invitations for an event on the 15th would be going out this coming Tuesday or maybe Wednesday at the latest.

If it isn't happening on the 15th then I really hope it is the 22nd because I'm dying to get my hands on the iPad 5.

Minor improvements in manufacturing may improve battery capacity by a small percentage. However, few people are going to notice an extra 15 minutes on a 10-hour battery.

The significant improvements we've seen to device battery life are attributable to more efficient CPUs, displays, etc. These have nothing to do with battery technology.

Agree with you completely. Unfortunately in the mainstream market, battery enhancements hasn't really happened. Lots of potential technologies are being tested for commerical use but none has been really ready for the mass production.

Take the 5S, it was rumoured to have IGZO from Sharp, but that didn't happen. Instead the 5S had a slightly BIGGER battery (a 9.2% increase in capacity) than iphone 5 (5.92 Watt/hr in 5s compared to 5.45 Watt/hr in 5).

In the case of the ipad, the battery capacity is expected to come down, which means without an IGZO panel, probably we would see Apple pushing to make its ipad efficient enough to hit the 10 hour mark, rather than look to extend it to 11 or 12 hours. Agree lighter it is, its better, but I still would prefer a 8mm device, with a weight around 520g with 12-13 hours battery life than a 7.5mm device, with 495g and just touching 10 hours. Let's hope for some IGZO magic in the iPAd atleast.

How do you use your iPad that a 12 hour battery life makes a difference? I charge my iPad overnight while I'm sleeping, and when starting with a fully charged iPad in the morning, I usually have at least 10% battery left at the end of the day, even with heavy use. So for myself, I'd rather have a lighter iPad with 10 hour battery life instead of a heavier one with 12.

Although what does make me feel hopeful with regard to battery life is the improved battery life in the MacBook Air. I know that was achieved by improved CPU architecture, but perhaps some of that can be worked into the iOS CPU as well? If not this generation, maybe the next!

I use an ipad 2, for a lot of work, and Im travelling most of the time, and I start quite early..and end usually late into the evening. 8am-8pm is 12hours and it serves me better than having to fully charge it and hope it lasts that long. A 20-25g difference won't make such a large difference, and if that can be used to have better battery life, its a much better take.

A 150g difference is quite solid ( ipad 3 vs supposed ipad 5), but 20g, maybe not so much.
And just for record - The MBA has 2 solid differences:

I
  1. Ivy Bridge vs Haswell ULT...power consumption is quite less on the Haswell.A6 vs A7 doesnt have that much change.. only a recorded improvement of 9-15% at max ( 32nm vs 28nm SoC)
  2. MBA increased their batter capacity 38W and 54W in the 2013 model compared to the 35W and 50W in the 2012 model.

The iphone 5S is another example. A larger capacity battery.

Proves that slight modification with increased battery capacity has resulted in better battery life. Maybe the 520g, 8.0mm doesnt sound so bad after all?:D

Yikes, they should have lots of stuff to sell. If all they had was the iPad 5 that would be tragic

Correct me if I'm wrong but...
There's:

MacBook and Mac Mini updates
Mac Pro
OS X
Ipad 5

You could really hide the fact you screwed up the Ipad Mini with all this stuff :)

They announced the mini last year with severe supply constraints. Why wouldn't they do it again?

----------

What % chance do you guys reckon the mini has to make the release bundle in the upcoming event?

100%. Even if they announce it with supply constraints, people will wait. Plus it will freeze the market and move Xmas sales into 1Q. Just like last year.
